I feel a leader that needs to be logged in at all times is not leading.

At that point it's babysitting and no underling wants to be babysat.

Blessed Mother Ginka, I have sinned. For what should have been a blessing in disguise, I allowed to become a shameful public display.

Driving back from the Client's office and am detained by the arrogance of a traffic light. What surprises me ahead?

No, I totally did not make a line of vehicles behind me wait while I took this photo and I did not almost wreck my own truck in the process. Oh, and camera'ing while driving is not illegal - is it?  ::)

* These damn Allanaki's just don't know how to drive without slamming on their brakes.

Or:

Awwww come on! You ate the horse and you choked on the tail! Use the right symbols!  HELP EMOTE!

I still have trouble picking out the right symbol for emotes, I have to pull up notepad and check my list like, three times to make sure I'm not putting out something like:

Gives you a pat on the back, leaving behind a sticky note on yours back that reads kick me, before stepping a few steps back and delivering a boot to you rump... if allowed.

emote doesn't allow, making your efforts in typing your last line a total waste, and resulting in awkward silence while you figure out what to do next.

My sin: I let stuff like that bristle my gristle. I shouldn't. But I do. The "if allowed" thing feels to me like a "ooc please acknowledge that this has already happened, or invalidate the entire emote." It's awkward. Why not instead do something like...

emote aims the sticky note at %amos back, and steps forward in an abrupt lunge at !amos.

and then, Amos has the chance to decide whether or not the sticky note landed on his back, or if he noticed the lunge out of the corner of his eye and shifted aside, or if he saw it clearly and reached to grab your hand. At which point, you decide whether or not your hand gets grabbed, and Amos doesn't need that "if allowed" thing at all.

I can't help myself feeling demmersed (what the hell is the opposite of immersed?) when I see that "if allowed" phrase nested in an emote. I want to get over it. I need help!

"Lunges" is awful strong wording. Myself, I hate typing "if allowed" or "if not prevented", but I've heard complaints about things before, power emoting and such, I usually just go with whatever someone else types, would rather do without the whole thing, asking for permission, no, I grabbed the back of your head and applied significant force toward the bartop. But whatever, I usually toss it out there because I'm trying to be better about my emotes, more considerate of how someone else may react.

I suppose there are better ways. I will have to think more carefully.

I am pretty sure I know why you see the if allowed bit - because it's shorter. We are always looking for shortcuts. I share that annoyance at that phrase. I usually try hard to make sure the emote is acknowledged.

Also, the best antonym I can think of for immersed is disinvolved.

I don't feel so alone then. I was worried people would think I was being overly persnickity for having this opinion. BTW I don't act on the opinion in any kind of snarky way in-game, I do just roll with it. The reaction is strictly a "behind the keyboard response."

I agree with you Lizzie.  Emotes should be presented in such a way that you leave the recipient open to decide what the action was. But you shouldn't be typing that you're giving them that permission in the emote, the example you gave is a good one, present the action, don't force the reaction on the recipient, but leave them the choice of response.

When I do stuff like that, and I can't get it to sound natural enough, I usually tag a 'trying to' onto it.

emote swings ^me leg out, trying to hook %amos leg and trip !amos

Thanks, I do appreciate the criticism. It is something to work on and if no one had said anything, I wouldn't know how annoying it was.

Just remember it's not annoying to everyone, and to not take it personally as a slight against you. Some of us are just sensitive, delicate flowers :)

I don't mind it so much. It's polite, at least, on an OOC level.

That being said, unless it's a power emote fruit smashing sort of emote in regards to my character's grappled head or something, I just go with it. If someone emote pinches me, I'll emote back that my character flinches, or whatever. I mean, who dodges pinches?

There is only one boog.

I agree with mama Boog.  IRL there are always unsolicited contacts, a brush of a shoulder as one passes, a pat on the shoulder in greeting. There are even some IC room emotes in taverns like this, where people brush against you.

The problem is when it is something that would seem unusual IRL (like a punch or a kick) or something that is more initiate and would require consent. Frankly if someone wants to tap my PC on the shoulder to get her attention IC, then it would be anti-immersive to seek permission, or even to give my pc the opportunity to let them. Just do it!

My PCs often give a light touch on the arm or hand when interacting with others. Usually not with strangers though.  No one has complained.

At your table, the XXXXXXXX templar says in sirihish, echoing:
"Everyone is SAFE in His Walls."

Sucker punches happen IRL, take it from me - I'm the recipient of many a yorker, and I'm a high-strung martial artist.

Just belt one out if you want. Unless the person's Superman you're gonna flog him in the nose at least once.

Jeezus just call half giants giants. Let's kill this once and for all. Almost everybody thinks it's a good change.

I don't even know where it started, it's recent isn't it? It turns my stomach as much as the the lack of punctuation.

Oh God I feel so much better getting that off my chest.
