Please note sponsored roles come with bumps to starting skills anyway, please do not submit your role applications as special applications because you want advanced starts (or anything else). It will all fall under the banner of a sponsored role application, which can also include other quirks or things you might ordinarily spec app.

QuoteCharacter cannot be a mul, a half-giant, nor any kind of mage or psionicist.

Anything else is fair game.

Although I see why you're confused. The following line could suggest that muls and half-giants are not mundane, and therefore are dwarves not mundane? Half-giants and muls ARE mundane! But they are also excluded from Advanced Start along with non-mundane classes.

Staff Announcements / Season One, Launch Role Calls
Last post by Usiku - Today at 02:44:02 AM
Below you will find all of the sponsored roles available for this role call! Given there are a number of roles and a lot of players likely hoping to land them, we invite you to apply for up to three roles.

How to apply
(please follow these guidelines exactly, if you do not, you may miss out on a role opportunity)

  • Send one role application request in only, put all 1-3 applications in that request, include all of the clans you are applying for in the title, as well as selecting them from the dropdown.
  • Each staffer has created their own role call information below, make sure you follow their instructions for application and answer their questions.
  • Each role application should be no more than 170 words. Your total request should be no more than 550 words.
  • Player information, such as your playtimes and such may just be included once in the request.
  • Label your applications with order of preference 1 to 3, with one being the highest. Do not skip this.

All Rolecalls will close at 5pm Server Time (that is US Eastern timzeone) on Friday June 7th

Timeline

June 1st - applications for rolecalls and specapps are open in the request tool
June 7th - Applications close,
June 7th - 10th - Staff make decisions
June 10th to June 13th - Set up of leadership roles
June 13th & 14th - Session Zero for sponsored roles
June 15th - Game launches

Important Note:  A couple of sorcerer roles and other oddball role calls will open at some point in the future, within the next 2-8 weeks.  Keep this in mind when applying for leadership roles.  Meaning, we'd really prefer you not to take a leadership role like a noble, then store to play a sorcerer in a few months.

Special Applications, including Advanced Start are also open from 1st June.

If you wish to put in a Special Application for an Advanced Start (see this thread) go to the Request Tool, select New Request, then under Character Related select Special Application.  This is also the place to put in a Special Application for a subguild mage, or any other special character.  See this helpfile for more information. In addition to the Byn and AoD, or no clan at all, we will also consider advanced start for other clans if you have concepts for those.

Note: Please only special app an advanced start for a clan if you have previous experience within that clan. 1 karma is required for Advanced Start spec apps.

What about standard character applications?

You will be able to submit standard character applications for game approval via the game port or the webtool from the 10th June. We will post another announcement closer to the time.

Sponsored Roles

Blue Robed Templar of the Allanaki Templarate

You will not belong to any Ministry to start; instead, your Blue Robed Templar will be seeking the favor and attention of either the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of City Affairs, or the Ministry of War to join their ranks.

You will need both political acumen and ruthless leadership to survive the gauntlet of Allanak as a Blue Robe, and the rigorous Templarate that rules over it. You will need to meet the challenges of Nobles and their Houses, alongside the Commoners and Greater Merchant Houses, and any threats outside of the walls of Allanak, with equal skill and precision. You will be a member (or possibly the Chancellor) of the Council of the Black Scales, passing edicts and laws alongside your peers that are yours to enforce.

You will dispense your magickal power granted by the Highlord Tektolnes however you see fit; but beware others who wear the Blue Robe as well, and whose toes you might step on in your ascension. The climb to the top of the Golden Tower of Tektolnes is riddled with peril. Will you rise to the top of the corpse pile of those who failed before you, and become a legend? Or will you grasp for ultimate power, only to find the taste of blood in your mouth before the end?

Please note:
-You must have 5 Karma to apply for this role.
-This is a role that will be boots on the ground with major plot movements at the launch of the game.
-This is a role that is a great opportunity to prove yourself for leadership, magick, and communication karma points if you do not already have them.
-We have raised the glass ceiling, and the rank of Red Robe may eventually be within reach.

What we are looking for in this application:
- Short background / backdrop for your PC. What kind of Blue Robe are they? Who do they hope to become?
- Basic plot ideas/concepts (2-3).
- Previous experience that qualifies you for this role.
- What you hope to accomplish with the role, and why you are a good fit.

The Glorious House Oash

House Oash is in need of a Junior Noble to join its ranks.

Despite House Tor being the current premier noble house in Allanak, everyone knows we are still the premier.  You have no doubt that this is still the case.  None of the other noble houses can compare to our power, intelligence, and cunning.  Some may see this as arrogance.  You know you are better than they are.  As a young member of House Oash, you have been given every opportunity, had the best education, an understanding on how to use the gemmed to your advantage, and given a clear understanding of your duty.  Your family has put their trust in you.

The time has come for you to ascend to your rightful place within House Oash.  You will have challenges ahead, but it is nothing you cannot manage.  Navigating the politics of Allanak, improving our standing, and bringing glory to our name is your calling.

What we are looking for in this application:
- Background/personality notes
- 3 Strengths and 3 weaknesses
- Ideas on goals you would like to achieve
- Why you are the best for this role

Please note: This role requires 2+ karma to apply.  This role will be heavily involved in politics with other Nobles and Templar.  As a leader of House Oash, you will always be on the look out for competant employees who have magickal talent, military prowess, and those who can... find creative ways to deal with problems.

House Tor Noble

From the age of five you have had to earn your meals in the Tor estate, forced into a cadre class to brutally compete with your kin for respect and the honor of victory. You walked through the Hall of Warriors every day, stared at the glorious remnants of shattered armor from those who came before, and vowed you would one day be immortalized there. As a young adult you threw yourself into the Academy trials and fought to become the Silver Cadet - you succeeded despite the many injuries and graduated with honors. Now comes the real test: You have been tasked to prepare the Academy for re-opening and steel your gut for what is surely around the corner. War does not wait for the unprepared and Tor must remain ready to lead. Are you the next legendary Tor Noble?

What we are looking for in this application:
Background/personality notes
3 strengths & weaknesses
Some goals/ideas for your unit
Why you think you'd be great at the role

Please note: This role requires 2+ karma to apply. This role will be initially politicking with Nobles and Templars and renovating the Academy. This role is not going to be easy or short-term... unless you die. Bonuses for applicants with: military, political, and magick experience.

House Tor Senior Red

You have long served the House with distinction and finally you are recognized with your fresh promotion to Senior Red Scorpion - and with it comes the expectation that you aide for a junior Tor Noble. Their success is yours and so is their failure. You will be tasked with advising and guiding your Noble utilizing your battle-hardened experience. A good relationship with your Noble is required. It will not be easy. But you're used to difficult, aren't you?

What we are looking for in this application:
Background/personality notes
3 strengths & weaknesses
Some goals/ideas for your unit
Why you think you'd be great at the role

This role will be a more advanced combat clan and aide position hybrid role. You will not be dealing with "regular rabble" like a Byn Sergeant. Instead you are managing instructor duties of student guests and serving a Noble as their aide. You will have a lot to do once the Season picks up speed.

House Fale Noble

Your family has fallen on hard times, but when those noble backs are to the wall we embrace our gambling spirit! With the recent hierarchy shake up, we Fales will capitalize on a number of money making schemes. Not all of them are strictly legal, let's say. Anyway, if you get caught - that's on you! I guess people also expect you to arrange parties for money, too. Go get that obsidian, little tart.

What we are looking for in this application:
Background/personality notes
3 strengths & weaknesses
Some goals/ideas for your reign of terror
Why you think you'd be great at this role

Please note: This role requires 2+ karma to apply. This role will really require a self-starter who is adept at driving plots. You are being given the ticket to the wagon and expected to learn to drive it, proverbially. Bonus points for players who are experienced in: politics, running events, scheming, backstabbing, and can carry a scene.

Arm of the Dragon Sergeant

We are looking for 1 person in the role of Sergeant of the Arm of the Dragon.

Your years of service to the Highlord has brought you to this point.
You are clearly the best of the best and deserve this promotion.
You have stood out from the ranks with your decision making, strength of arm, leadership and charisma.
You have survived when others have fallen.
You will be tasked with building up your unit, recruiting, training, and promoting.
The unit will be an extension of your already impressive record.
The Templarate will ask for your unit when the need is high!
Criminals will run when you walk the streets!
Citizens will adore you, chant your name!
"Sergeant!  Sergeant!  Sergeant!"

"Sergeant!"
You are startled awake by the sharp voice of the Captain.
"You bin spicin again?  Git yer sorry ass out of here and git some recruits!"
Scrambling, almost tripping in your haste to leave, you snap off a salute and hurry out the door.

This role is open to everyone but it is recommended that you have experience with the politics of Allanak.
This is an influential position, you will hobnob with everyone important!

What we are looking for in this application:
- Short, general background/personality notes of the character
- 3 Strength/Weaknesses for your character (Yes, both!!)
- The goals for you and the unit
- Why you think you'd be great at the role

House Salarr Expansion Division

We are looking for one (1) Junior Agent who will be heading up their own crew within the Expansion Division of House Salarr.

You will be in charge of hiring Privateers as your personal work force and martial force, piloting your wagon around the Known in search of copper deposits, and arranging the defense of mines you claim. You will encounter House Kurac, both in the field and in civilization, and need to use your wits and political aplomb to avoid catastrophe and gain the upper hand. Eventually, you may choose a Right and Left Hand to execute your will as you rise in the ranks, seeking fame and fortune, riding the copper wave into the future.

Please note:
-You must have 2 Karma to apply for this role.
-This is a role that will be boots on the ground with major plot movements at the launch of the game.
-This is a role that is a great opportunity to prove yourself for leadership and communication karma points.
-We have raised the glass ceiling, and the rank of Senior Agent may eventually be within reach.
-We are focusing on the Agent Branch; Mercantile functions will not be the major focus at launch, but be allowed to grow organically in game.
-Politicking and adventuring is the major focus of this role. You will not need to fulfill any item orders unless you want to, and typically, not unless they serve some sort of political purpose.
-We have made many NPC vendors available to make Salarr items on rotation available to the public and not require PC intervention.

What we are looking for in this application:
- Short background / backdrop for your PC. How did they find themselves leading a crew in Expansion Division?
- Basic plot ideas/concepts (2-3).
- What you hope to accomplish with the role, and why you are a good fit.

House Kurac Junior Agent

You let you barrier down just long enough to have a short conversation with your Lieutenant before sliding it back into place. The wagon is here for a chat with the Lady Templar Oash, who is investigating the recent uptick of spice activity in the parties of late. Whatever problems she's going to mention, you've already put a contingency in place to get rid of it soon. You're the problem solver for the family business. And business is good.

You are a Junior Agent, born to House Kurac, with a legacy of violence and spice running through your veins. You'll be leading a crew within the Mobile Operations branch of House Kurac, hunting for metal and getting in quickly before the behemoth wagons and Argosies of House Salarr catch a whiff of copper. You'll manage a network of prospectors, spies, and operatives, sniffing out new sources to cash in on or sabotage. In Allanak, you'll rub elbows with Nobles and Templars, seeking capital for expeditions and ways to stay ahead of the competition without stirring up the wezer nest.

Do you have what it takes to call yourself a Kuraci?

What we are looking for in this application:
Background/personality notes
3 strengths & weaknesses
Some goals/ideas for your unit
Why you think you'd be great at the role

Please note: This role requires 2+ karma to apply. This role will be at the very heart of drama, dangerous politics, and high-stakes subterfuge. Pack a lunch, Junior Agent - you're going into the sands for weeks at a time. Bonuses for applicants with: military and political experience.

House Kurac Outrider

Promoted in secret and kept on to perform tasks important to Mobile Operations, little is spoken about these units filled with mysterious desert wayfarers. Its members do not admit their association to anyone and take care to not be followed or exposed when conducting business. Myths about them are perpetuated everywhere in the Known and some have a grain of truth to them.

What we are looking for in this application:
Background/personality notes
3 strengths & weaknesses
Some goals/ideas for your unit
Why you think you'd be great at the role

Please note: This role requires 2+ karma to apply. This role will be a more advanced combat and subterfuge clan. You will need to be independent, have good impulse control, enjoy "ranger life", and have a soft spot for small military unit roleplay.

The T'zai Byn Mercenary Company

The T'zai Byn Mercenary Company is looking for a Sergeant!

The T'zai Byn is synonymous with the word mercenary.  You aren't sure what synonymous means, but mercenary? You live and breathe it.  From the moment you joined their ranks, you felt at home.  Rising through the ranks, you've earned your place as the leader of your own unit.  You may not be the most word-capable when it comes to dealing with nobles and templar, but you know how much it costs to run a contract.

Your unit is well trained, blooded, and ready to take on the jobs no other sane person will take.  Who they were before they joined doesn't matter now.  They are yours to lead to glory, death, or off the Shield Wall during a terrible sandstorm.

What we are looking for in this application:
- Background/personality notes
- 3 Strengths and 3 weaknesses
- Ability to run events for your unit/minions
- Why you are the best for this role

This role is open to ALL players, though some leadership and combat experience would be great to have.  You'll be dealing with those fancy silk wearing nobles, petty merchants, overzealous templar, and making sure they pay your unit properly.  Note: As the first Byn Sergeant of Season One, you will get to decide whether or not your unit hires gemmed mages, and will have a large impact on how they are treated within the Byn.

Player-run Tavern Crew

We are looking for 2 people to help crew the new Player-run tavern.

- the leader of this crew, the "landlord"
- a second in charge, the "assistant"

The people on this crew will be the In-character staff of this establishment.  You start the game with a coded clan that you can recruit into as well as some starting funds in the bank, some basic tavern supplies in the back room, a very basic inventory on the bartender NPC and single guard.

It will be up to you to drum up business, hire help, host events, supply the bartender and expand the tavern (should you wish to) whilst navigating the social and political attention that comes your way.  You will not be limited to these activities, you can play a full-fledged character, but as a sponsored role you will be expected to give this an appropriate amount of focus.

If multiple people apply for the Landlord but not the Assistant specifically, we will pick someone from the applicants to be the Landlord, and another the Assistant.  This means that if you're not willing to potentially be the Assistant, then you should not apply.

What we are looking for in this application:
- Short, general background/personality notes of the character
- Some basic goals/ideas you might like for the tavern
- Why you think you'd be great at the role

There is no karma requirement for these roles, you just have to be willing to be somewhat of a leader and host events and things you would expect of a bar owner.

There is no restriction against mages (gemmed or rogue), however, understand that this could potentially have large implications on the success of the business.  Up to you!

Note: You may apply with a friend together if you wish, similar to a family role call.

I can't talk for staff but mundane usually refers to anything non-magic, rather than human. It's also implied by the line "Character cannot be a mul, a half-giant, nor any kind of mage or psionicist.".

General Discussion / New and Improved Advanced Star...

Hey so... this was confusing to me, and I thought it might have got some other people as well. In the New and Improved Advanced Start documentation it says:

Quote from: HalasterRequirements:

- Must have 1 karma
- Character cannot be a mul, a half-giant, nor any kind of mage or psionicist.  This is for pure mundanes only.  Normal racial restrictions apply based on the organization.
- If you start in the Byn, AoD, or Tuluki Sun Legions, your character must remain an active member of the organization for at minimum of 2 Real Life months, actively played.  If the organization has a longer commitment, such as lifesworn, that still applies.  Starting unclanned does not have this commitment.
- Must have a Special Application slot available.  See https://www.armageddon.org/help/view/Special%20Applications

And everything was cool, until I then looked at the new karma scale and saw that my favorite race was now a karma race (dwarves, because I love to be annoyingly single-minded, just ask my wife).

What's the definition of 'pure mundane' only? Would you accept, for example, an advanced start dwarf, half-elf, or city elf? What about a desert elf? The Advanced Start seems to indicate that you would, except that half-giants and muls are specifically called out. What's the cut-off for races in the advanced start?

Quote from: Seeker on May 30, 2024, 08:40:11 PMThe consensus appears to be that staff and players are firmly against.  Groovy.  "Let code triumph" appears to be community's preferred bedrock.

Let IC be IC should triumph in all situations. The same things you wanted to ask in an OOC manner can be handled the exact same way in an IC manner.

OOC "I propose our characters have it out, right here right now. Here's the guidelines: Both have Mercy On.  No intentional murderizing through poison, spell or other means.  Whoever cannot continue the combat either by being knocked out or saved by Mercy must accept maiming, torture or disfigurement by the other."

OOC "Defeat may mean the removal of a limb, an eye, adding a disfiguring scar or even requiring new mdesc or sdesc, VICTOR'S choice.  You in?"

Say: I propose a duel, right here right now. Both of us will be merciful, combat only. Whoever is knocked out, or flee from this field is subject to the victor's wrath. Keep in mind, I mean removal of a limb, disfigurement, let's get creative, hmm?

No need to go OOC.
