That's actually against their rules, AND against the spirit of the voting system. If one person loves this game 40 times a day, it makes the votes of the 20 people loving it twice a day, meaningless.

I'm just saying that we don't own the #2 spot.  We've only had it for 2 months, and we didn't get it by doing anything that the other MUDs can't also do.

If anything, we're at a disadvantage because most of the top-10 regulars probably have more players than we do.

Complacency will be our downfall in this.

Agreed.  I don't think that is a good thing for us to do.  If referring to a game that we're in friendly competition with on voting, I only refer to their spot and what we have to do to attain our position.  It is a little disheartening to see that for the past two months, players have chosen to bash the MUDs we have to compete with, and I'd like to see that stop.  Each to their own--there's no reason to bash people for having different interests or standards for what they enjoy, nor is there a reason to bash other games.

Ah, yeah, once you put it that way I feel like a shit. Surely these games have some great things going for them if they're being voted for often. Discworld mud had me hooked for a few months and I know there were things I enjoyed about it, I just lost motivation somewhere along the way and found something I liked better.

Update on margins and where we are:

Current new accounts:  121

Voting history for comparison:
February -- ended the month at 1250, 5th place
March -- 11 days in, working on widening the gap between #2 and #3, but we were #2.  End of the month:  2037 votes over 31 days (approximately 66 votes per day)
April -- 1000 votes by April 11, competing heavily for the first week for #2.  End of the month:  2320 votes over 31 days (approximately 74 votes per day)
May -- Took over two weeks to maintain a solid enough lead to keep #2.  End of the month:  we broke 2000
June -- in the second week, still working on trying to establish enough of a lead to keep #2. 

What's different?  Not too much, but we haven't been voting as much as we have in the past 3 months (at the beginning we are usually seeing about 100 votes per day, we are doing about 68 votes per day right now).  I mentioned that those first two weeks are pivotal.  That's very true!  Come on out and vote!

Discworld has a large (really freaking large, I'm telling you I really tried to play it) player base, that this game is able to give them such a run says a lot. Even if this month is lost you're keeping up with them... Even if this month is lost, best likely to try next month, see if they can keep it up...

EDIT: Also ahead of the place behind by about 500 votes, if I'm reading this correctly, that means Discworld is making a huge push and may not be able to keep it up. But I have to admit they do have a fun game going there... Can they keep that lead? Can they continue to push? Only time will tell... I bet they will have to actively work at it.

Discworld is one of those games where people have had the same character for 10+ years and it's infinitely more powerful than a new one, with no chance of a new one catching up. It'd be interesting to know how they get new players.

Reset will probably happen for TMC this month as well, so we will need to stay on the ball.  #1 (or #2) on TMC is perfect.  #2 or #3 on TMS is perfect.

Well, 30 of the votes on TMC that we didn't get in the last 30 days, were mine. I try every day, and every day I get:

I tried with Chrome and IE too, no luck. Weird thing is, I can use google to search for mudconnector, click on the link to the side from Google. If I try to click on anything *other* than community forums, I get that message above. If I click on community forums, I can access the forums, and my TMC account is already logged in. If I try to access my account from there, so that I can log out, I get that message. So I'm stuck, logged in permanently, with no way of logging out, and no way to navigate any part of the TMC website except for the forums.
