Hah!  The story of your first character is amusing on several different levels.

One suggestion: if you can, date some of these events you mention, like when you first started playing Arm or when you finally came on staff.

Halaster... the ranger with funny shoes?  Wow.

That's great stuff, Sanvean.  Keep it coming!
Any questions, comments, or condemnations to an eternity of fiery torment?

Waving a hammer, the irate, seething crafter says, in rage-accented sirihish :
"Be impressed.  Now!"

I love you.

Arm is evil.  And I love it.  It's like the softest, cuddliest, happy smelling teddy bear in the world, except it is stuffed with meth needles that inject you everytime

These made my day Sanvean.
I will see if I can get the guts and/or idea to make my own little quick vblog about Armageddon.
Sadly as only playing Arm for about a year, I don't have much fun stories to retell and/or they may be IC information.
Keep em coming.

Whoa these are so cool!

Those damned Israeli hackers.

I got a webcam, but I dunno what I would put on it.

I'd try to marry you if you weren't allready.
A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.  Zalanthas is Armageddon.

I'm waiting impatiently for episode 3.

Episode 3?  Yeah, sure, it'll have a duel in a volcano, but we all already know that Halaster turns to the dark side.  That's the funny thing about these prequels that tell us the history... we already know the present.

Cool, Sanvean.

You do not have that item.

Yes!

Larrath, aren't you glad they let you play?  That sounds like it was only months before you and I started playing here!  :-)

That's pretty interesting. I'm wondering just how bad the rudeness and favoritism was back then, to reach the point where players would "rebel". And why was the decision made to ban the entire country of Israel? That seems exceedingly drastic. I mean, that probably wouldn't have happened if the hackers were from North America or England.

Well, it's not that the entire player base would rebel, but there  were a number of people with substantial chips on their shoulders -- and I suspect accounts of who was responsible for that chip being there would differ. I was not one of the people playing on Quest Days, but I certainly didn't think the hack and other actions were justified.

Re: the whole country -- I'm pretty sure that the handful of people playing from there at the time were all involved in what happened. But I agree, it wouldn't have happened if it were a place that a number of people, rather than just a few, were playing from.

And I think it's hard to convey just how ticked off the staff was -- some truly nasty things were said, a LOT of personal privacy got invaded , and difficulties with both the hosting service and ISCA were created. I think there's still ISCA people who spit at the mention of the mud's name. I don't think the majority of the players who were Arm-less for a couple of months were particularly appreciative of the hackers either.

I don't know about the favoritism, but using the wish command was pretty dangerous back then. Bite your head off or worse.

For example, I remember one character (not mine) who had received a send from an imm who was running a plot that involved her. When she wished back (all, since the sending imm wasn't visible), another imm got annoyed at her (even though she was only replying) and banned her from wishing.

I started to avoid using it altogether since it mostly led to being ignored or insulted, even when Thanas' suggested formula for wishing up was followed.

Hmm, I also remember that a lot of people resented the gypsies for all of the favorable attention they received. There even was a saying for a while:

"Gypsies: dead today, sparring tomorrow."

to reflect how often they seemed to get resurrected. Nasty bastards just wouldn't stay dead.

On the other hand, the level of roleplaying was a lot sketchier back then and there was a lot of exchange of IC information going on, on ISCA and wherever else. Powergaming and pure bullshit from a roleplaying perspective. So in a sense, the staff was at war with a lot of the players then, cracking heads together and trying to shape some up.

My personal opinion was that more communication would been preferable to just shooting the miscreants, but then as now there was a major wall of silence between staff and players.
Lunch makes me happy.

I love these vids.. Any chance of getting other staff members to record some too?

If you haven't just said everything you would in a web cam, that'd be pretty interesting to hear a players perspective from that time :D

I think the first frame of that episode should be set as the intro page to the Armageddon website.

"Welcome from our staff."

I would be kind of interested of viewing that best roleplayer/worst roleplayer list Sanvean mentioned. With her being third on the worst one =P For ummm ... historical purposes ofcourse, yes.
