Started by FantasyWriter, July 04, 2008, 06:15:17 AM

I'm on my 10th in almost six years.

1 Assassin
1 Burglar
1 Drovian
1 Merchant
2 Pickpockets
2 Rangers
1 Warrior
and my current character.
So if you're tired of the same old story

Yes.

I'm on #10 after a couple years of playing, but a couple of my characters barely count because I think i managed to kill them twice in a space of about 5 minutes, the joys of being a noob  :D

Does the mud keep track of how many accounts and PCs we have had since the game started? OR since the hack?

I could be wrong, but I think it keeps track of all characters since we switched to the accounts system, and I'm not sure when that was (a little before my time).  Before people would just make a character and not have an account (sometime before 1994 that's the oldest character I could find.)

I believe the account switch was november or december '98

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one

I am on character #9.  I started in August 2003 but was away for a year so I guess that makes it 4 years.

3 pickpockets
1 assassin
1 warrior
1 merchant
1 ranger
1 burglar

Nine months playing, and I'm on character number #44

I'm thinking I have a 50% suicide/storage rate. Feeling like I'm about ready to move on to number 45, trying to think up a concept though.

12 characters in eight years

3 warriors
3 rangers
2 templars (one north, one south)
2 assassins
2 whirans

8 humans

1 half-elf

PC 1:  died to a scrab because I forgot to redraw my sword, sad.

PC 2:  a unit of mutants!

PC 3:  died within four hours of play in the 'rinth

PC 4:  whacked by my own buddies to repay a debt, bastards.

5 deaths by ginka

3 deaths by PCs

2 deaths by immortal controlled NPCs

so only 50% automated death, pretty good I think.

Causes of death, is it? ..Crap, I can't really remember all the ways that my 80 something plus characters have died!

So!  I'll run through some highlights:

1. Carru'd (mostly my delves)
2. Scrab'd
3. Beetled (Drove beetles!)
4.Wezer'd (just once..and once is enough!)
5. Poisoned (puked their guts up)
6. Eaten by a mekillot
7. Fell off a cliff (with a whiran, no less)
8. Torn apart by [something awful and IC] (at least I think it was..character was blinded, at the time)
9. Killed by Kryl (movement lag and bad connection caught up to me at the worst time)
10. Sent into the arena (character was less than two hours old.  Had fun RPing their surprise at waking up, naked, outside the walls)
11. NPC killers in an unsavory place
12. Raptors!
13. Burninated
14. Struck by lightning
15. Turned into Halfling chow

...many, many more, that I can remember, but you get the idea.

I've come to the conclusion that relaxing is not the lack of doing anything, but doing something that comes easily to you.

Please be careful about revealing IC information (or stuff that is not generally known through helpfiles or documentation) with your causes of death.  I've had to edit a couple things here already.

With appropriate roleplay of course.

69 characters.  2 stored.

All guilds except templar flavors and psi.

All the normal races except mantis.

I can't remember all the deaths, but:

-NPC'd.  Lots.
-wezer'd
-Poisoned
-Falling
-Silt
-Killed by things awful and IC
-Struck by lightning
-Eaten by halflings
-Blackmoon NPC half giant
-HRPT'd
-and lots more
Evolution ends when stupidity is no longer fatal."

I've had a few characters. Average length of play is well over 3 months and something like 40 days playtime, though the range is 1 week-ish to 1-year-ish (4 days to 80+ days).

Of the PCs with closure:

25% died to non-imm-animated NPCs.
37.5% stored.
37.5% died to PCs in close relationships. (You know that old saying that it's those who love you that will kill you...yep.)

I surmise from this data that having deep character relationships is non-boring, yet dangerous.

I'm gonna go all Gimfalisette on you guys and lay down some numbers.

I think after my current PC dies, I'm going to roll up about 5 characters and suicide them, just so I can get into the double digits with all you people.

2 warriors
1 ranger
1 assassin
1 whiran
1 vivaduan

Average time played: 37d and some change, though this is skewed because out of all those listed above, only two even made it past a few days.
Longest time played: 176d and a few hours.
Shortest time played: I think one of the warriors was 4 hours old.

1 stored
1 dead by poison
1 dead by hilarious aggro stilt lizard
1 dead by murder
1 dead by whatever mysterious things happen to elves when they're linkdead
1 splattered by her buddy in a fighting tournament

1 dwarf
1 elf
1 half-elf
3 humans
And I vanish into the dark
And rise above my station

1 whiran - died in a pillow fight (feathers were everywhere, it was a mess)

I am over one hundred now, the low three digits.

In my defense I started playing when I was 12 years old, and lost a ton of characters just trying to figure out the game.

That being said...I tend to suicide rather than play with crappy stats. I will take average stats, but crappy (below average/poor stats) chracters turn into scrab/halfling food instantly. I play for fun, not as a chore, if I wanted to be below average, I would just break my own leg IRL, and hobble around like I have purpose.

So, I would say maybe 1/3 of those were suicides.

Some stores.

A ton of stupid deaths.

A lot of good, well played PC deaths.

I can only think of one bad/twinkish PC death ever, I was sapped off a barstool in the middle of a conversation with the barkeep.

I have never had a Ginka death I dont think. The machine must like me or something.

Or just carry on with the nifty roles you tend to churn out?

Personally..

Assassin - Stored - 60+ days
Ranger - Killed trying to flee a sand raptor carrying a log - 10+ days
Warrior - Killed falling down a certain well in the rinth - 3+ days
Ranger - Killed after serving through the Copper War and surviving a LOT of Tuluki politics - 20+ days
Warrior - Stored - 10+ days

About... #150 maybe higher.. Haha, I live dangerously.. Quit playing.. came back.. forgot account new account...
But out of atleast 7 - 8 years thats good eh?
Someone punches a dead mantis in it's dead face.

Causes of DETH:

PC1 - Warrior - Beetled - About 25 days played
PC2 - Assassin - 'Rinth NPC (very, very embarrassing. Guy had potential...) - One awesome, -awesome- RL week played
PC3 - Warrior - Stored - Can't really remember days played.
PC4 - Burglar - Murdered by staff-animated NPC (One of my top game experiences) - 4 days or so played. Felt a lot longer.
