choke

this might have been discussed before, I couldn't find it if it was, but might it be possible to incorporate a 'choke' command into subdue for people with advanced-master level subdue to strangle an opponent?

That would be a pretty awesome addition for master assassins. If they wanted to do it nice and slow style.

Sort of, but no.
I'm not talking about a 1 shot kill move for ubber elite powercaming, I'm talking about something you see scrappy lil kids do to each other on accident.
I usda tussle with my cousins all the time when I was a kid and its amazing how smaller people with a bit of speed and the right leverage can choke you out without very much effort on their part.

Something more along the lines of
Subdue person

You wrestle X and subdue them

Person tries to escape, and gets auto choked.

Now you type Choke X

And you get a second free choke, without them typing flee.

It would take a few times to choke someone out (in rl even if your good at it it can take a bit of time)

But a way to incompacitate someone without having to wait for them to flee pass out, but also not give you a 'ubber kill you now' button.
And theres always that possibility that they reverse you and choke you instead.

As for 'necksnapping', I think that should be reserved for if they are under 10-15 stun, and come with a seperate command...

So 'Choke X' takes their stun away til they pass out, and once they are passed out instead of having to just 'kill' them you could 'necksnap x' and it would operate like the kill code, but give you a niftier echo showing you twisting someones neck or alternatively crushing their windpipe.

I don't think an additional necksnap command is necessary. You can just choke them to low or no stun and then hit them while they're incapacitated.

I do kind of like the possibility of choking out subdued people - but that being said, subdue is already very good...

Subdue is already pretty powerful, with the ability to drag someone around, throw them into other rooms and hold them prone for your buddies to beat them.

But it's an idea I've definitely thought of before.

Especially when you see this RL Zalanthan dwarf teach demonstrate choke he is famous for.

Arent giants powerful enough? Other then giants I like the idea though. Ive seen staff let people RP stuff like this out before though just an fyi.

Vennant doesn't appear to age because he serves drinks at the speed of light. Now you know why there's no delay on the buy code in the Gaj.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, you used to be able to subdue someone, pull out a weapon with your 'free hand', attack them and hit them with the bonus you get for hitting a subdued person.

Being choked out?  Pssssh, this was the way to go!

or add agility to the subdue roll, then giants wouldnt be subdue machines. But yes if giants couldnt choke people then it would be pretty awesome imo.

I have played a Mud Code in the past that had groundfighting.  It was actually a pretty decent system.

You could Groundfight On/Off to show your preference to fighting.  In combat you had a chance to end up in a groundfight because we all know that fights end up on the ground quite a bit.  There was also a tackle skill(subdue basically).  You then had options while groundfighting and you could toggle them on or off.  Choke, Elbow, Knee, Headbutt, Bite, ect.  These all produced different effects while fighting.  If you had bite on you might get out of a choke better because you would bite their wrist ect.

I just know that it was always epic when you played a groundfighting specialist type of race and choked someone to death!

I really like the idea of expanding on subdue because as it is right now it doesn't allow for that many options even if it is incredibly powerful.  As far as I can tell subdue while you're ALONE is pretty ineffective.  You can grab someone... hold them, drag them, but otherwise you can't do much in terms of truly incapacitating them.  If you could attempt a choke hold after they fail to flee a few times that would be great.

"You struggle and fail to escape!  Their grip tightens!"
"You struggle and fail to escape!  Their grip is even tighter!"
"You struggle and fail to escape!  This person holding you isn't going to just let you willy nilly try to fight and escape them, this time they're going to do something about it and it happens to be a choke hold because all of your spam thrashing cause them to get a nice grip!"

Then you pass out eventually after your stamina wears out entirely from fleeing away from them + ticks of chokehold.

Methinks giants dont choke the same way a human would.  A human might grab someone around the throat and squeeze.

A giant would just grab someone's chest and squeeze.  "I'll hug 'em and squeeze 'em and love 'em, forever and ever!"

I really like this idea. I think it would add to the game and allow for more options of interaction. I bet it would even save some PCs from being killed.

I like it. It strikes me as a neat little thing to add to some skill trees. Like..remember when we got sap? That was awesome. I love sap. Thank you to whomever coded that.

I'm not sure where I stand on the idea, but there does seem to be a simple solution:

When a person is subdued, and the try to flee, and fail, it causes stun damage.

If they struggle enough times, and continue to fail, they would indeed be rendered unconscious. Which may or may not be a fair and realistic out come.

This.  This seems right.  Also creates a balancing act between "spam flee" and "Way for help."

Synthesis, tell us that this will make subdue game-breakingly overpowered.

The arrow swift, the Gate is strong.

I think it seems like a pretty nice idea just to be able to choke someone when you have them subdued. Why are you guys worried about giants having this? If a giant is in a position to where he has you subdued, you probably aren't in a very safe position anyway.

I like the idea, it's realistic.  It adds to the game.

The runty half-breed stares wide-eyed over the edge of the Shield Wall, one of his feet slipping on a stone.

The tan, muscular man takes a heavy breath, and shoves the runty half-breed over.
