New Helper System

Kudos to the ones who set this up ... it looks great!

Also, for those who are tempted to check it out, this is how it works.  You type in a name and there is an optional field for your e-mail.  Then you are put into live chat with a helper.  It happened very quickly - I had been anticipating that I could bail out before I actually wasted someone's time.  At the end, I had the option to e-mail a log of the chat to myself.  So!  Now you know what it does and don't do what I did because I'm sure there will be plenty of curious people wasting the helpers' time today. :D

Great, great job!

You go south and one of the other directions that isn't north.  That is seriously the limit of my geographical knowledge of Arm.
Sarge?

No one escapes...  8)

We've been testing this thing out for a couple weeks now, and all the helpers should know how to use the system on their end by now. It's really really nifty.

I like this. Sweet - Makes Arm really seem an interactive community, not just in-game, but OOCly, as well.

If by weird tribal men you mean Christians then yes.

It's brilliant!  I never imagined Cutthroat looked like that.

How's this work now? I don't even see  the old helper list.

You go to the helper page, and click the chat now link.  You get hooked up with someone who is online and available.  If for some reason they can't answer your question they can forward you on to another helper, the request tool or staff email as appropriate.  The old helper list is no longer going to be published on the website.

I logged on just to see what it was like and that young man was so POLITE! Lawdy! What a pleasant experience.

This is pretty darn cool.

My only suggestion is to get a really saucy photo for the "chat now, I'm online" photo.  Couldn't help thinking that.  One of a male too of course, for gender equity.

My suggestion was a gith with a Zalanthan megaphone.

With appropriate roleplay of course.

How does this work from the helper's perspective?  I guess what I'm really wondering is if the list of on-line helpers is pulled from people logged on to the GDB, IM, the game, or some helper-specific interface.

How does one become a helper these days?

We have to be logged into a certain website to receive chat requests.

With regards to how one becomes a helper - an expression of interest is sent through to helper staff.  Right now we're not taking on any new helpers.  We'd like to work with those we have to knock the kinks out of our chat system and so on, after that we will look at opening helper spots up to others once more.  We'll post in staff announcements when that happens.

I'll be interested to hear how this gets used, too.

Are newbies mostly using it for advance?
Is it mostly a mix of specific syntax questions?
Do people bounce basic concepts and ideas off the helpers?
Ask for RP advice?

It would also be interesting to compile a true "most frequently asked questions" list every few months.

I've actually used this once for reals and it was great to get a quick answer in real time instead of goofing up what I was doing.

I'm sure the staff have this in mind for creating this tool, as now EVERY INSTANCE is recorded and saved somewhere, instead of instant messenger logs that helpers may or maynot have sent in beforehand.

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one

We're going to give you some help you can't refuse.

I tripped and Fale down my stairs. Drink milk and you'll grow Uaptal. I know this guy from the state of Tenneshi. This house will go up Borsail tomorrow. I gave my book to him Nenyuk it back again. I hired this guy golfing to Kadius around for a while.

After all those years, and with the changes made over the years that I was away, I have a kind of newbish question. I might log into the chat sometime and be a really cute, polite newbie.  :)

 ;D

Hurry!!!!

I wanna be ze helper!

I think we're going to be able to keep more new players because of the new Helper System.  Implementing this was a good move.

This is really slick and professional.  We may be the only MUD out there with something like this.

(Plus, I can now put "Customer Service Support Specialist Software" on the knowledge section of my resume.)
Child, child, if you come to this doomed house, what is to save you?

A voice whispers, "Read the tales upon the walls."

The mouseover of the new image says "Live chat live help software for website"   Not sure if that's editable.

Fixed.
