Pale Horse.... you've had that same PC since I started playing Arm.... kudos on the long life. I don't for the life of me see how you do it.

My longest lived PC, yet (knock on wood).  :P

The #1 thing I've discovered that keeps a PC living for a long time is: Don't piss off the top dogs and don't antagonize the rest of the pack.

Also, learn to avoid or kick the collective asses of the hungry critters outside the cities, and learn to recognize the hungry critters inside the cities.

#8

Against all advice, I tried playing a breed or two first, before I learn't my lesson, and changed to humans for a while.

#1 Mle, Half-elf, Ranger/hunter if I remember correctly... (always read the docs.....I learnt after a pitiful skill set)
#2 Human Assassin,  my absoloute favorite PC so far, he was so much fun to play, although his death was a bit of a let-down.
#3 Breed warrior/merc, died pretty quickly I belive.
#4 Human assasin, died after about 4 hours of playtime...saddening.
#5 human assisin, dont think I was too happy about #4....
#6 Human ranger, not a very memorable PC i belive.... damn shield wall.
#7 Human Ranger/jewelcrafter, theres a pattern emerging here......
#8 breed Ranger, Still kicking it!

I've never stored, always died.....

Still on number seven. I started playing at the very beginning of 2007.

6 humans
1 dwarf

3 warriors
2 assassins
1 burglar
1 whiran

3 stored
2 random NPC'd
1 PK'd

My longest lived was (if I remember correctly) forty-something days played over almost exactly 1 RL year. The shortest was like 1 or 2 RL weeks.

(Total/Alive/Applying/Allowed):  34/1/0/1

5 Storages: two for spec apps, two for sponsored rolls

21 Humans    (the first ten were my first ten PCs: less than 3 days played... some less three hours)
5   Half-elves
4   Dwarves   (one was an awesome spec app mutant who lived WAY to short (3 Days 20 hours))
1   Mul          (1 Day 14 Hours.... Feckin' Halfling poison)
1   City Elf
2   Desert elves

19 Ranger
7   Warriors    (all but two were in my string of quick deaths as a noob)
4   Merchants
2   Burglars
1   Assassin
1   Viv (gemmed)

Grebber - One who grebs.

I've had 7 total in 4 1/2 years of play.

#1 Human Ranger/Forester in NAK - Beetled to death.
#2 Human Warrior/Hunter - Died in a mysterious way.
#3 Half elf Ranger/Weaponcrafter -  Scrabbed!
#4 Human Warrior/Guard - Ran from the Arm to join the Fist! PK'ed!
#5 Human Ranger/Merc - Bynner till the spiders! I miss you Manji!
#6 Delf Ranger/Bard - Don't ask me about the subguild, it made sense at the time!
#7 Living! Kinda... maybe?

Also had a nice long 4 year break, so really only been playing 1/2 a year.
Don't listen to me, I'm only a newb.

Never ever played a filthy northie. Never intend to. Bloody Too-lucks. I challenge Monkeys to a hate-off!

Lessee...

Random warrior of Allanak who I lolsuicided to make...
Randoom warrior #2 from RSV, at the behest of Ashes (who got me into the game),
I went on to make one of my all-time favorite characters, Jonas Drake (as is the name of my AIM, cluey-types), a pickpocket from the 'rinth,
And then I went to play Zoan, who all you southies know and love/hate.

The next three characters are too soon to mention. So that's a total of um, uh...uh...four...five...SIX! I've had six. On my seventh. Vrun Driath for life, yo.

Newb 1 has perished from terradin in room #. Yuck. (Don't drink the funny water helpful PCs give you.)
Psuedo-Newb has been killed by a sandy-haired desert tarantula, amen. (Don't flee from a mek into a beetle into a spider, on foot...)
Inactive Newb has been killed by a sinewy, brown-spotted rantarri, amen. (This was, legitimately, my first "real" PC - ie, one I played for more than a day and then died on. I had her for a solid few years, though the majority was idle time until those last few months, and it was pretty fun.)
Suicide Newb has been killed by a large black beetle, amen. (Lasted maybe a few hours, total.)
Inactive Still-Newbish, remains alive: Start Date: Fri May 16 02:27:22 2008

So... #5?
A dark-shelled scrab pinches at you, but you dodge out of the way.
A dark-shelled scrab brandishes its bone-handled, obsidian scimitar.
A dark-shelled scrab holds its bloodied wicked-edged, bone scimitar.

I'm on #7.

I apparently seem to be breaking the common trend, because less than 50% of my PCs have been human. 3 humans, 2 dwarves, 1 half elf and one city elf.

I was VERY surprised that I had played more humans than dwarves and half-elves combined (my two favorite races).
That being said, my hmans have a habit of being much more short lived than my dwarves and half-elves.

I'm totaly impressed by how long people keep themselves alive for.

In a litte over a year of playing, my longest lived character was an amazing 12 days of play time and they had an awesome life. Ran out of movement in the wrong spot.

I'm on my 53rd character with an average survival time of 2-4 days.

Rangers are awesome, but easy compared to the city-classes which I'm stuck trying to get past days 5-7.

Oh yeah, humans = yuck.

(not counting mid-90s chars when I was in early highschool and I would just run outside, die to a gith, submit another char, repeat).

Char #1 - Half-elf ranger.  Scrab->Shield Wall->Dujat->Gith.  3 hours.
Char #2 - Human ranger.  Stored.  15 days played.
Char #3 - Dwarf ranger.  "What's in this hole, I wonder?"  About a day played.
Char #4 - MYSTERY

I wonder if I find rangers appealing?

Sarge?

Probably spent more time not playing than playing in that time.

Conceptualizing my 11th now.

10th died faster than my first char (thiefy char in 'rinth).

Hang in there. I have over 110 PCs in about... 4-5 years played (on and off even.) I can't even BEGIN to give you the breakdown on it. My biggest problem for the first year was that I ran around with a quick tongue and bravado. (The euphemistic synonym for "stupidity") Through my whole career I'd rather be doing stuff balls to the wall like each PC is expendable, than sitting around plotting. I think very few of my first 30 made it past 1 day play time cause I had a knack for IMMEDIATELY getting in over my head. Lipping off to the Guild Boss, vowing revenge on the Templar, hunting mekillot with a mediocre leveled Krathi. Shoot. 5 - 6 days used to be epic long life for me.

My last PC got over 20-some days lived (probably my record, IDK) and my current one is climbing right up there, easily. I think something has changed. But who knows.

#1 - Human Burglar / Hunter. 1 day, 15 hours. 'Rinthed
#2 - Human Pick Pocket / Thief, 1 day, 6 hours. PK'd in the UT.
#3 - Human Assassin / Thief, 11 days, 6 hours. PK'd by a player death squad in Tuluk.
#4 - C-Elf Burglar / Weaponcrafter, 1 day, 23 hours. Disappeared in Tuluk.
#5 - Human Magicker / Bard. ~5 days. Supposed to have been an epic death, instead turned into lousy PK in wildeness.
#6 - Human Merchant / Archer. ~ 4 days. Stored because of RL issues.
#7 - Human Magicker / Scavenger. ~2 days. Pk'd in wilderness
#8 - Dwarven Sneaky. ~1 day. Killed by NPC, but completely in character.
#9 - Human Mundane. Under 4 hours. Stupid PK in sensitive location.

I miss #3. He was my funnest. #5 was my most emotional, #6 is the one I feel guilt over.

Wow dude, that's a LOT of PK. None of my characters to date (save one) have died to another player, and I'm pushing somewhere in the 30's I think.
