Inix gone wild!

Why do mounts tamed by rangers go wild after reboots and go ROMPING AROUND AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I thought that was fixed long ago. Bug it in the game. Had you ever rented the mount in a stables? I suspect that places a permanent 'mount' flag on the animal.

Actually, no. Don't rent wild mounts at stables, they go wild again.

About a year and a half ago, my PC had a tamed inix which in about three RL months of play never went wild from renting it in stables or from reboots.

I was actually killed by an inix I bought from some body, stabled it, withdraw it, tried to mount it. It bit me a few times before I figured out what was happening and that was that.

Arm is evil.  And I love it.  It's like the softest, cuddliest, happy smelling teddy bear in the world, except it is stuffed with meth needles that inject you everytime

lost my 20 something day much loved dwarf to this bug.

probably could have got a rezz, but didn't realize it was a bug until later.

be cool if this was fixed and or documented.

documented bugs = awesome.

You must wilderness quit with the animal at least once to remove all other flags.

No bugs.

just "undocumented features"?

that's great.

I always just figured taming may not have been intended to be permanent.

Isn't the definition of taming a change from the wild or savage state to a domesticated one?

Is it realistic to be able to reliably turn an adult wild animal into a safe docile beast?  I don't know.  Someone who knows more about the subject than me will have to answer.

Even if it can be done routinely, I imagine it's a lengthy process.

The basics of breaking an adult, wild horse vary, but its not like you need to do it 50 times.  Now, to make it a decent horse you will, but to merely control it somewhat with the risk of it bucking you are looking at more like 1-5 times.
Evolution ends when stupidity is no longer fatal."

Depends on the animal.
Simply because they are the only animal that we typically ride irl besides elephants i'll use horses. I know you can tame an adult wild horse into a reliable mount. Though depending on how well tamed the horse is and how wild it was the begin with who it trusts and will let ride it are often limited. Though so long as its rider/tamer is there it doesn't go on rampages hoofing people.

I know nothing about taming elephants.

none of that matters in this case, though, unless we're developing NEW taming code.

the central problem here is the undocumented features of the taming code that produce illogical outcomes that get characters killed. this is another case of the "guess the syntax" minigame that doesn't belong in an RPI.

Quotejust "undocumented features"?

Is that intel or microsoft?

Anyway, guess the syntax...not really, think of the code just being unfinished or too old to work with newer scripts. Taming should add the mount flag to certain npc's and remove all other flags and scripts. For whatever reason, it is unable to do this.

When you wilderness quit with the npc it does remove them, then when you log back in the npc is saved as a normal mount. (this is partially conjecture on my part from YEARS of playing rangers, but it has never failed me)

I believe it is possible for other PCs then rangers to tame animals, this actually could be intentional in a way to show that they are not as good at it since only a ranger can train/tame it well enough to be a reliable mount.
And thats the way I have always played it.
