Near-Death Experiences

Ever had a near-death experience?
My most recent one was when I was RPing practicing archery in a tavern, and I emoted one flying by an elf. When I was foraging later on, he came and chopped me down to 10 health within 5 seconds. I ran my ass off, and made it into the town just in time.

EDIT:

Now that it's after the big endeavour, I figure out that he's "His Sanctuary" or some shit.

I had a character with go to -6 from 2 beetle bites as a Byn runner, then go on to live another RL year and a half (not in the Byn, though).

Actually, having near-death experiences seems to be a common thing for my characters.  All but my first have all come extremely close to death early in their careers.  I even had two characters both nearly die from flash powder bombs (you'd think I would learn after the first time   ).

Please don't post current IC events or details on the boards.

That said, archery practice in crowded public places is never a good idea. Especially with insane hardasses around that don't like 'near misses' at all.

How do you think Asst. Manager Doug at Chile's would take to you breaking out a crossbow IRL and firing off a few rounds at the Budweiser sign?

Yes.
Varak:You tell the mangy, pointy-eared gortok, in sirihish: "What, girl? You say the sorceror-king has fallen down the well?"
Ghardoan:A pitiful voice rises from the well below, "I've fallen and I can't get up..."

One of my previous PCs came pretty close to dying in an RPT that was one of the most awesome I've ever been in.

A previous PC had a whole different brush with death while out on an RPT, that was nothing to do with her dying.  Woo!  That was a pretty fun one too.

And then there was the undead songbird that my first PC ran into.  I wish I would have sent in kudos to the IMM who did that.

I really wish I could share the details of both of the first two, because they were soooooooooo awesome.  Unfortunately, you'll just have to experience them for yourself.  (And I know that other people will.)

We were on a mercenary contract into the Red Desert with a client, digging something up, when a raider walks in with 3-4 half-giants in tow.

It was about 6 humans vs. 4 half-giants + raider, so it was a pretty scary situation.  After trying to trick the giants into disagreeing with the raider, everything fell apart and things started to get smashed.  At the end, most of us were pretty banged up and I was down to about 12 health from holding off about three of the giants as long as I could.

That was the lowest the character ever got until his death many years later.

Gith raiders, tarantulas, beetles, mekillots...all the scary monster npcs have juuuust about killed me at one point or another.  Lowest I ever got was an assassin of mine. I dropped link during the middle of a fight and crossed my fingers.  Came back up, my enemy was dead at my feet, and I was down to 3 health.

But I've never died to any of that stuff.  Here's what I've died to:

Crim Code
Other Pcs
Child, child, if you come to this doomed house, what is to save you?

A voice whispers, "Read the tales upon the walls."

Plenty.

Attacking the only PC I ever attacked, falls, falls with nasty things in it and the like.

My current PC doesn't seem to die, ever.
A rusty brown kank explodes into little bits.

Someone says, out of character:
"I had to fix something in this zone.. YOU WEREN'T HERE 2 minutes ago :)"

Careful.. that's exactly how you jinx yourself. ;)

I had this elf that was dorking around the salt flats, a freaking mek came and bit him.

I won't give numbers, but... mek's have big mouths. And I think that if I had rp'd the situation honestly, I'd have to have rp'd him as now being elf feet, and elf hands, and nothing else.  :P

Then I had this elf that was subdued by a soldier, and a templar gave him a nice little axe chop. From full health to 1 health in one swipe. But then again, that's what happens when you can't move at all. Heh.

I rpe'd him out for the rest of it as being somehow alive, even though his head was hanging off his neck by just a tiny bit of flesh.
A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.  Zalanthas is Armageddon.

I was, uh, somewhere bad and something bad happened to me in the bad place. I went down to -11hp but somehow survived and pulled back (even though my objective changed and showed the room number I died in). He later died because I didn't read a room desc carefully enough when badly injured and there was to be no miracle escape this time.
You can't trust any bugger further than you can throw him, and there's nothing you can do about it, so let's have a drink" Dydactylos' philosophical mix of the Cynics, the Stoics and the Epicureans (Small Gods, Terry Pratchett)

I'd say the most insane near death experience I had was with my current character. Unfortunately nobody was around to go 'omgwtf!'.. but I fought something alot bigger than me and it hurt real bad. I flee, only to run into a pair of the things I just ran from. So I flee again after getting knocked to 40 or so stun. I flee off a cliff.. yay, land on a big nasty with somewhere around 7stun and 20hp. I managed to escape the fourth big nasty with the other two in tow. Good stuff.. definately the most action packed battle I've had in awhile.
A staff member sends you:
"Normally we don't see a <redacted> walk into a room full of <redacted> and start indiscriminately killing."

You send to staff:
"Welcome to Armageddon."

I've definitely had a few. I think the lowest I've ever gone was 1 hp, though I can't remember when that was so for all we know it be a scam!

In the past while, though, I've gone down to a few hp with at least one character due to large shelled creatures living somewhere north of the sea of silt.

Someday soon, though, I will be able to control their minds, and with that, the world that we call Zalanthas. No joke!
History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.

I fled from a gith off the Shield Wall once.  I passed my climb check, but unfortunately, so did the gith.  He proceeds to start kicking my ass while we're both hanging from the side of a cliff.    I figure, well, may as well, so I climb down.  The gith chases me down the cliff.  I pass my climb check, he doesn't.  That was funny.

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one

I see a little death in everything.

Strolling through the 'rinth once, a particular NPC saw fit to jump me, receiving four attacks in the first round because of weird code, three of which hit me on the head and the fourth on the body. I fled with 1/8th of my health after one second of combat. I've seen less deadly braxats.

I was doing something incredibly cool and got hit twice by something.  This took me from max stun, which was really, really high, to unconcious with about 100 less hps than I was used to seeing.  However, due to an odd quirk of fate, my character became concious two seconds later and got the hell out of there.  That was easily the fastest I have ever regained conciousness with a character, ever.
Evolution ends when stupidity is no longer fatal."

Was out in a certain place doing certain things. Raider attacked me and left me for dead. Came back to and RPed it out, crawling literly back to Allanak, when he got attacked by another raider, left for dead. Struggled back almost to Allanak, before he got lost in a sandstorm and died of thirst.

I was once in an infinite loop of near deathiness for over 8 hours:  I had a half-giant encounter a place that generated creatures with paralyzing poison.    The creature attacked, I got paralyzed, and lay on the ground for a while.  I recover from the poison, so the creatures attack again.  Sometimes I'd get paralyzed and sometimes I'd get knocked to negative hps, either way they'd stop attacking until I recovered.  Every few minutes another of the creatures would be spawned and move into the room with me, by the end there were over 100 of them.  After a few hours I started to suffer dehydration and starvation, which didn't help matters.  Since giants have high HPs and good regeneration, she kept surviving and recovering, only to be attacked again before she could stand and flee.

Sure, after the first couple hours I probably should have quit and died, but I have a terrible time giving up on a character that way.  And there was the faint hope that someone would come along and distract the creatures, luring them into another room and making it possible for my poor, stupid half-giant to get away.

I have no idea how long the near death state could have continued, hunger and thirst were becoming a real problem.  But then the game crashed while she was at negative HP, and when I logged back in my PC was dead.

There is _nothing_ like eating something and almost dying.

That brings back memories of surviving poison... with 1 hp.

Ahh.. the good old days.
