Locksmith

This is basically an idea for allowing burglars etc a little something on the side in the way of a legal income! I know most burglars and stuff will get their most profitable income from stealing - obviously, but why not make use of their skill with locks?

It would mean having a coded chance of locks failing, on the doors for apartments etc that would mean the character would have to find a 'locksmith' (locksmith by day, burglar by night) to come and fix the problem. Locks break! I just think it would be a nice small detail and add a little more depth for guilds that have skills with locks etc.

This is a lot like coding in pooping. Realistic, but ultimately just a huge pain in the ass.

What happens when your lock fails at off-peak hours? What happens when you can't find anyone willing to admit to your potentially guild-sniffing self that they can fix locks? What happens if your lock breaks while you're inside your apartment and you simply don't know anyone who can fix it?

And so on and so on.

I do not remember it seeing in documents, but IMO House Nenyuk has  monopoly on production of locks. Crafting of not all, but good locks may even require some -very- complex knowledge (for Zalanthian standarts) which is guarded by Nenyuk locksmiths with greed.

Also, it is pity, there is no nenyuki PC now to ask price of a new lock. When I heard first time, I looked at screen for good one minute in disbelief.. Heh..

I've played a locksmith before.

House Kadius is also known to deal in locks, as they deal in the finer things in life, like chests, beds, books, and pavilions.

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one

Yeah I played a locksmith too.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but even in real life don't most locksmiths only pick 'em, not make 'em?  Don't get me wrong, I think that it would be great for advanced burglars to be able to manufacture simple locks, but I don't know if that really plays out in reality.

Actually, being a locksmith is pretty fun and you can make darn good money at it.  Think about it, get into a House, make yourself known as a locksmith carefully, then steal keys.  Use the keys to rob the houses or apartments of the tenants, and then pick the lock open for them to see!

I really love Arm criminals.

Anyway, all I'm saying is that as it is now you can make it work, and you can make it work in a way that, in my opinion, mirrors real life fairly well (with the noted exception that most people don't lock their keys in places legitimately).
