(another) Burglar solution

Here are my thoughts:

1) Put more NPC commoner families and other goodies in Non-PC apartments

2) Make picks fragile and prone to break

3) Add a possible crim flag to pick attempts.

4) Make the hallways in PC apartments crim rooms.

There is a possibility to get crimflagged from picking locks in public areas.  It's just very rare and I agree, it should become more common for fails.  Maybe distinguish between chance of people noticing depending on what time it is?

I agree with all of these ideas though, pick is one of those annoying skills and I don't think its been updated since the shift to PC apartments rather than indiviual Nenyuki houses.

Note: I'm pretty sure there is crim code attached to it.  There is a possibility the one time I encountered it was actually Imm directed.

I love love LOVE the idea of breakable picks!

And the idea of a critical fail on picking being crimflagged if the room is populated. Neat neat neat! Though if you're doing it on 'business' for a templar, they should have a way to pre-pardon you or something before their NPC guards subdue and drag you to jail.

Also, if you just have a set of lockpicks in your pack, not in a bag or something, I'd like to see those have a % of being noticed during a gate inspection and confiscated.

How about a roaming npc guard in some of the nicer apartment buildings?

And yes, in non rentable homes, toss the occasional retired soldier NPC. Someone that you'd think twice about wandering through while she's watching.

If a ground floor room has windows, maybe doing illegal things would also have a % of incurring a crimflag.

I am very pleased with how the apartment swapover went, by the way. There are still ways for a thief to get in and cause mayhem, but they have to be smarter about it.

Picks ARENT breakable?!
Yes. Read the thread if you want, or skip to page 7 and be dismissive.

Stop being shitty to each other.

Don't know really, but when you watch a burgler pick the locks of 6 or 7 high end apartments in a row with the same pick, you gotta think they are not.

I'm pretty sure they're breakable (seem to remember from long past), but for something as thin as a fat toothpick, certainly not fragile [enough].

Some picks should be breakable, oh yeah.  They should break 50% of the time when you're crap especially.  Some CERTAIN special picks should not be breakable, or at least, only breakable under extreme duress such as the junk command.

As it is, it's way too easy for me right now, guys.  I'm rich.  I'm rolling in it.  I'm getting fat and lazy and there's no challenge whatsoever.  So I want guards.  I want npc families with kids who stay in their apartments all day long.  I want more apartments.  I want harder locks.  I want crim flag risks.  I want those fat asses at the front door to give a shit when I try and get by.  Make it harder.  HARDER.  I love it when you're hard. *flutter*

P.s. Did you know I've never had a pick break on me? I've been doing this for a long time, too.

I've had a pick break on me.

There was, at one point, a bug in the code where it wouldn't break, but Morgenes fixed it.  I think that was four years ago.

Perhaps you guys should bug the pick you have in game.  I remember when I used to have my pick break on me every time I failed.

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one
