Scrabs are taken from Dark Sun.  I found a neat picture of one from the old Athas Monsters Manuel

SCRAB: A legless, locust-like intelligent race with evil natures and vile reputations.


Though this iteration of the scrab I believe looks very different from the Zalanthan Scrab which is described to look very similiar to a mantis and can be mistaken for one at a distance.

Here is also a good link for various Athasian animals.  Like the scrab, many are very different from their Zalanthan counterparts, and many probably don't translate at all.

Yeah.  Zalanthan scrabs and Athan scrabs are different, since that one in the picture looks nothing like a mantis.

I dunno, I always kind of imagined scrab as looking kind of like black-shelled mantis: tall and upright, numerous lanky legs, segmented body parts, a big head, but with large crab-like pincers.

I always thought scrab was a kind of cookie or candy.  Or that thing you did when you're losing your grip on something.  Or remnants.

I used to picture them as beetle-crab things. More recently, after more carefully reading their info, I picture them as very shining, angular, skinny creatures that are built similar to a mantis but walk on multiple limbs. When I say angular, I mean like N64/Starfox graphics angular. Like mostly made out of crude, sharp triangles. I don't think this is at all what they're supposed to look like, but they look pretty cool in my head, so I guess that counts for something.

Write up a description of a scrab the way you see it, and submit it to the Staff. If they like it, they will put it in in place of the current one.

I suppose due to the similarity of spelling, I've always imagined them as large, more upright versions of the scarab beetle, and the mdesc doesn't do much to dispell this idea.

Same here actually, but I actually imagine them orangy for some reason.

I've always seen them as more like a beetle evolving into a humanoid mammal type...or a humanoid mammal type evolving into a beetle.

Smooth in shape, gangly...more human looking then even mantis.

Think of it as like the ape part of the evolution, capable of standing upright but not doing so most times.
