retiring characters

I have never did it before....

So all I do is say I want to retire in a e-mail with account name?

Yep..

Also you may change your ldesc with your wish of retiring.

Lastly, there is a chance your pc may be retired with a "wish," but I am not sure if that's appropriate unless you are retiring for an IMM sponsored role.

Edit: Hehe... Yeah.. Not ldesc but objective.. On the other hand, it could be very dangerous, but effective.

in real life people kill them selfs for what we think are stupid reasons..

why can't that be in armageddon too.

...it can be...but you're not interested in playing a suicidal character, you're interested in playing a different character.  :-D

Also, if your character is fairly unknown and not involved in anything special, you can try wishing up and we may "retire" you on the spot.  We won't do that for most clanned charaters like a Kadian merchant or a Oashi noble, but if you're just some average un-clanned Joe who no one knows, we'll likely oblige (if we're online).

Suicide is nearly unheard of in Zalanthas.
Life is so difficult to maintain that to willingly give it up is all but unthinkable.  Suicide does exist, but it's absolutely nowhere near as common as we have it.

However, you could also roleplay having some accident and dying from that.  If your PC is a climber, I believe it's completely legitimate to roleplay falling and breaking your neck, and then wishing up for a slay.
If you're in the 'rinth, your character could get drunk and get into a knife-fight with some NPC standing nearby, and be so wasted that he'd fumble and drop his weapon by accident.

Hell, you could fall in the middle of the desert and break your leg and suffer slow death by dehydration.  And if somebody finds your PC, it might spice things up.
It's not death that's rare, it's people slitting their wrists that is.

If you want to stop playing your character, and you're not involved in any plots, you could probably wish up for storage.  If you are involved in plots, or if your PC has some important role or is a leader, you should email.
And if you do want to just kill an important character, I'm sure your clan imms would appreciate an email in advance anyway.

there's little to no suicide because it's in the docs. I don't remember where, but it's there. And that's a good enough reason for me.

As stated, there are plenty of well RPed ways to end your character. Suicide just isn't one of them.

well I wont ever turn a weapon on my self I would just get into trouble or try to hunt bigger game if I can do it in a good rp way where it dosn't look bad.

So it is acceptable to find some way of killing yourself, whether it be taking too much hallucinating spice and trying to kill people, or roleplaying slipping off the Shield Wall, as long as it's IC and not just a "kill mekillot"?

Most people in real life might accidentally get into a bad situation because they're drunk, and in Zalanthas, I imagine it's possible, but the situation is deadly.  If your character is drunk, and you like that character, you're probably not going to sacrifice him or her with a drunken blunder that ends up being their death.  However, if you're trying to get rid of them, an IC, mortally stupid mistake is ok?

I say sure. get drunk  tell off a templar

then make new char

eh, i think it's a dangerous line. It depends on how far you have to stay from your true character to make the event happen. There's a limit to stretching, but you have to decide it for yourself.

I think it's far more realistic to find a Mek and try to kill it than "get drunk and tell off a templar."

Maybe get drunk and tell off a militia - but templars are very powerful and very scary.

Telling off a templar should be just about the most unnatural act you can imagine.

Thoughts that should run in your mind:
If I tell the templar off:

1. What if he cuts out my eyes and tounge and hands and lets me live?
2. What if he uses me for some experiment?
3. What if he publicly executes me and humliates my family?
4. What if he kills me, everyone I love, and some of the folks I like for good measure?
5. What if he doesn't kill me but leaves me in a dark cell for the next twenty years?
6. What if he turns me into his kankin' buddy?
7. What if he kills me but it takes me a week to die due to infection as my skin is flayed from my body?

I mean - templars are powerful, frightening mouthpieces for their King. The last thing you want in your eyes is a templar sending you to your sand nap? I think not.

A knife fight going bad, a drunken brawl in a tavern during which you're killed by militia or something like - much more realisitic.

You don't have to have an IC reason to get your character killed.  Perhaps he doesn't know there's a death trap in the next room, even though you, the player, know.

It's your character, play him or her as you wish.  If you want to suicide, you can do it without it being a "suicide" ICly.  Roleplay having him go mad and attacking the first templar he sees.  Roleplay him being diagnosed by a virtual, bogus physician who insists he only has 3 days left to live.  If I thought I only had 3 days left to live, I'd go out with a BANG, not sit there and wait for the Grim Reaper to come knocking on my door.  There's plenty of fun ways to "suicide" a character and have it completely legit.

My PC with the best death so far had a very good IC reason to suicide, actually.

It involved deeply rooted tribal beliefs, rituals, love, and events caused by a bad, naughty templar. I actually considered writing the story up for the wiki collection, but so far I have been a lazy bum.  :(

In my personal thoughts, I think retiring a character is totally lame.  Unless he has totally lived out his life and is to retire in character to a nice little home in the merchants quarter.  I've always frowned upon it and probably always will.  I'm sure there are some special circumstances that would call for it, but in truth I really can't think of a single one.

When a character ceases to be fun and enjoyable, it is time to move on to something else.  I think retiring them is far better than doing something way, way out of character in order to get them killed.

Example:  I had a character which I had played for about 6 RL months, racking up some 45 or so days of play time.  I got a RL promotion about the same time my character got one IC.  Suddenly, both my RL and virtual lives were full of stress and far too much like each other. It became a chore to log on and I had to force myself to do it. My choice was to retire the character or just not play Arm any more.

I just couldn't see using any of the ways people have listed in this thread to die in that case.  I don't get why retiring is lame.
Quote from: J S BachIf it ain't baroque, don't fix it.

It's fine to retire characters.  It's considerate to wrap up any outstanding plot lines beforehand as well as to provide your character's friends and/or family with some explanation (moving to another city, visiting a sick grandmother, whatever).

Do include both the character and account name in the email.  Recently we had a problem where someone's brand spanking new character got stored because they'd wanted to retire the previous character, had written in an email, and then died.  The character name wasn't on the email so the staffer retired the only living character on the account, not knowing the request was obsolete.
