I also have a Treo 650 and I use it to connect to my laptop as a dialup networking modem on the unlimited Sprint data connection that I was required to get with the 650. The speed is a tad faster than a 56k modem for large downloads although the latency is high which adversly affects web browsing. I've connected to Arm that way before, sitting in my truck in a parking lot. It works fairly well.

A coworker uses his 650 with an SSH client on it for some remote administration. So concievably, you could use it to mud. But I sure wouldn't recommend it. The screen is still too small for that much text.
lah!

You can get a mobile ssh program for your motorola V220.  omg.
