Adding to Avril's Ask the Staff re: Throw

Similar questions, plus suggestion.

I remember from a previous PC that you can throw kruth cards at each other. But this occurred in a "private place" out of the jurisdiction of the militia. I do remember also, however, that it did -not- cause the NPC guards in the building to go ballistic. So I'm unsure if that's just a kruth card feature, or a feature of the fact that we were all clanned in the same clan, or what.

I remember also that certain foodstuffs can be thrown - but this happened while the perpetrator was hiding - so again, I'm not sure if that was the hiding that prevented the guy from getting busted, or if foodstuffs don't activate the crim-code.

Obviously - I would expect things that are coded and flagged as "weapons" to invoke the crim-flag when used in the same room as your target, if the target is another "non-inanimate object." But I've never seen anyone try it so I really don't know. If it doesn't do this, perhaps it should.

Suggestion - since there -are- some things I know don't work at the present time:

Be able to "shoot" or "throw" weapons in a direction without targetting it at someone specific. How many times have people wanted to scare someone away - but not try to hurt them - by shooting an arrow down in the next room where their enemy is? If you try to use a rock coded as a "bludgeoning weapon" - you have to aim it at a target. You can't just plain throw it. Same for bows/arrows. I haven't tried darts or blowguns or slingshots yet.

There have been times when I've seen a "bigugly" in the next room and wanted to RP trying to shoo it away. But I can't - because the code doesn't allow it, and even if I emote it, the bigugly in the other room won't see the emote to respond (with "bigugly" being anything from an NPC critter to a evul sorcie guy PC).

So yeah - I wanna "throw rock west" and then shout "The next one's aimed at your face, muthafukka!"

I've used this with shoot but it doesn't seem to work with throw.  The code for shoot is in the help_archery file.

It would be a neat to have this coded for throw as well.

You can do that with arrows, and I have done almost precisely that. Of course, the muthafucka in question apparently just thought I couldn't hit him, but, c'est la vie...

The syntax is

>shoot <near/far> <direction>

Throw, I haven't experimented with. But it -would- be cool if you could throw a lit torch into the next room by doing a

>throw near <down/east/west/south/north>

.. That'd rock. Anyone know if it's already possible? (You'd have to be able to brandish the torch, for starters.)

I've seen someone throw a fruit at someone else, and not get wanted.  It was in the Bard's Barrel.

I am assuming that you only get 'wanted' when you start combat, which would be from throwing a 'weapon' of some sort.  Don't throw something classified as a weapon, and you don't get wanted.  Trust me on this.

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one

You usually can throw anything, but a weapon will do damage if it lands and causes a wanted level.
I tripped and Fale down my stairs. Drink milk and you'll grow Uaptal. I know this guy from the state of Tenneshi. This house will go up Borsail tomorrow. I gave my book to him Nenyuk it back again. I hired this guy golfing to Kadius around for a while.

That isn't entirely true Bogre. You can throw anything *at a specified target.* You cannot throw west, or throw east, or throw up (well, you can throw up, but that doesn't have much to do with the topic.)

As I posted previously, I *think* you can throw kruth cards in just a direction and not targetted at anyone or anything specific. It's been awhile since I've tried though.

Actually, I think the deal is: you can throw anything your character can hold, at a person, if they are in the same room as your character. It will only do damage, and be an 'offensive' action if it is a weapon suited for throwing (and a few other factors added in here and there). The rest falls into the realm of RP for people to play out, as they will. Obviously, throwing a chair at a noble will likely garner a negative response, regardless of if it does damage or not. Simlarly, throwing a piece of shit at a rinthi elf will probably yield positive, happy results (from everyone except the elf, heh).
