what if suddenly oh the world literally split in two and neither half could ever contact the other half again
then we have two separate servers that are entirely independent and  the same player can even have a PC in both halves at the same time (and i suppose play both at once because they wouldn't be able to interact anyway, although maybe this is bad because they wouldn't be able to full attention either)
