Skill Requirements

Characters who submit Custom Crafts for weapons (not arrows, bolts, bullets, bows, crossbows, slings), will need to have the following level in said skill to craft the appropriate quality:

terrible           = any
low                 = high apprentice
below average = low journeyman
average          = mid journeyman
above average = low advanced
good               = high advanced
very good        = low master
amazing          = high master

Ingredients Requirements:

The ingredients should reflect the quality:

average or lower - normal ingredients, nothing special
above average - most ingredients should be better than average, so more than just "a piece of bone".  At least 2 ingredients, one of which requires a small amount of work to get.
good - most ingredients should be good.  At least 3 ingredients, one of which requires a moderate amount of work to get (kryl, anakore)
very good - some ingredients should be very good.  At least 4 ingredients, one of which requires a lot of work to get (salt worm, dujat worm)
amazing - some ingredients should be amazing.  Requires 5 ingredients, one of which is very difficult to get (gaj, mekillot, bahamet, horror, etc)

Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be the creatures listed as example, just something along that level of difficult.  "The best obsidian you can find", stuff like that.   There is a fair amount of subjectivity to this, and that's alright, when you submit it staff will work with you on figuring it out.

Specialising in a Weapon Type

You cannot start with the best for your ability and always submit that, you have to work your way up to it.  Once you have mastered crafting a weapon type, you can craft two quality levels before your max, then one below it, then at the highest to represent your PC becoming a specialist in that weapon type.

For example, based on your skill and the fact you're in Salarr or a tribe and working on your tribe's specialty sword, your best is 'amazing'.  The first month's CC must be a good sword, the next: a very good sword and the third: an amazing sword. Once this is done, your PC can now always craft amazing swords, within the other limitations.

For example, based on your skill and you're an independent making a spear, the highest you can craft is 'very good'.  The first month's CC must be an above average spear, the second: a good spear, and the third: a very good spear.  Once this is done, your PC can now always craft very good spears, within the other limitations.

*Note - When submitting a CC for high quality weapons, please link in the request your previous CC's for the weapons building up to it, if applicable

*Note - The weapons being crafted must be similar types as you go through the process, though staff are willing to be a little flexible.  For example the first one can be a spear, the second one can be a longspear, the third one can be a warspear.  The point is that they're all a spear.  Or all a sword, and so on.

Limitations

All amazing weapons will be one-off custom crafts, rather than craftable.

Each crafter PC can make up to 4 'top tier' weapons per year, across all weapon types, and must wait at least 2 RL months between crafting top tier weapons (so every 3rd month).

Weapon Categories and You

Below are the different weapon categories, organized by each type.  As you go down the list for each type, they do more damage, but weigh more and are generally larger.

Stabbing
dagger
longknife

Piercing
shortsword
shortspear
spear
warspear (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)
longspear (ETWO only)
Half-giant sized piercing (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)

Slashing
sickle
longsword
bastardsword (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)
greatsword (ETWO only)
Half-giant sized slashing (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)

Chopping
hatchet
axe
battleaxe (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)
greataxe (ETWO only)
Half-giant sized chopping (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)

Bludgeoning
sap
club
mace
warhammer
staff (ETWO only)
maul (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)
longmaul (ETWO only)
Half-giant sized bludgeon (EP / ETWO only, in other words no ES)

*Note: Categories are just that, a label for a group of weapons.  Every weapon in the game is put into one of these categories as each category is a set of stats primarily.  For example, the longsword category can include longsword, falchion, rapier, sabre, etc.  The mace category can include flail, and the club category may include cudgel.  A larger flail may be in the warhammer category.

After running this system for several months and gathering feedback from both players and staff, we have discussed and identified areas for improvement in the weapons custom crafting system. As a result, we have made some changes to enhance the overall experience. The following outline highlights the changes and the above has also been edited to reflect them:

'Type' means any similar style weapon, so all spears are a type, all swords are a type, etc.

Non-amazing (very good) weapons:

- The PC must first have mastered the weapon type before they can attempt to craft up to very good quality.
- Once a PC has successfully CC'd a very good weapon by working up to it over 3 CCs, they can continue to CC recipes for additional very good weapons of that type with no more pre-requisite crafts.

Amazing weapons (Salarr, tribal specialty):

- The PC must first have mastered the weapon type before they can attempt to craft up to very good quality.
- Amazing weapons will all be one-off items and non-craftable.
- Once a PC has successfully CC'd an amazing weapon by working up to it over 3 CCs, they can continue to CC recipes for additional amazing weapons of that type with no more pre-requisite crafts.
- Each crafter PC can make up to 4 of these per RL year, across all weapon types, and must wait 2 RL months between them (so every 3rd month).

The initial 3 step process is still required for both 'very good' and 'amazing' (dependent on clan status) where a PC must work their way up, but this only needs to be done once per weapon type.

Consider this as a crafter going beyond mastering a particular weapon type and becoming a specialist of sorts, once they have achieved that status they then retain it.

Submitting Custom Crafts Generally

We are also going to once again start enforcing our written rule that ALL custom crafts require a log (see help custom crafting, point 7, last sentence).  We have stopped enforcing that for a while, but have decided for the sake roleplaying quality to once again require this.

Quote7. You must fill out the entire form provided in the request. Depending on the item type, you may have to provide
additional details as well (for example, a taste and scent message for food). There will be certain code aspects that
staff will determine, but everything else is in your hands. A log showing the craft process or 1-2 paragraphs explaining
what your character's design process is and why your character is making the item is required.

Specialising in a 'Type' / Clarification

It seems that there has been some confusion about what is meant by 'type' for the purposes of crafting an amazing weapon and the preceding crafts. To clarify, the 'type' refers to the type of weapon as defined by which crafting skill would be used to make it. It does not refer to the damage type of a weapon.

For the purposes of become a specialist in a weapon type and able to craft amazing weapons of that type, please make sure that you focus on preceding weapons of the same type. E.g. If you want to make a sword (piercing OR slashing), please make sure that the preceding weapon crafts are also swords, specifically.

In case Halaster's post above was confusing the matter, that is simply there as deeper information into the damage categories and various features of weapon types, but it is not related to directly to the crafting of amazing weapons and specialisation in a type.
