Just as the question says, where did you start your first PC? (For those of you newer than the "hometown" vs. "origin" feature, I'm looking for the location your character pointed to out of the Hall of Kings, not your hometown you selected in chargen.)

Answer for your very first character when you were a brand new newbie, but if you had a situation where your first character started in Red Storm but died within two hours to a large black beetle, and then your first long-lived character was in Tuluk, feel free to leave a comment and say so.

Red Storm, because Ashes told me to play there with him. I think I was a Ranger? I sat in the Storm's End spamming barrier and Ashes told me that if I'm going to do that, at least roleplay a reason to do it, and show you're doing it.

My first character was a Warrior/Scavenger in the T'zai Byn. Lived to be just over 7 days played, before I stored him because I wanted to try out Tuluk.

To clarify: Allanak.

First character was a necker pickpocket born in Allanak proper.

First character that lived past 10 hours was a necker assassin that joined the Byn in Allanak and was immediately transferred north. Died the week I came back to Allanak after my year was up.

First long lived character (and the one that hooked me) was a half elf from the labyrinth, though.

First character was in the labrynth, assassin/thug, lived three RL hours, saw the well, killed by murderous NPC after putting on a nifty bone helm he found in a pile of abandoned loot.

Second character started in Luir's, lived almost an IG year.

Third character Tuluk, but only spent about maybe a RL day there, lived a little more than an IG year.

Human warrior, hit the Byn, killed during sparring by a mercy-on chop to the head from Henna.

First character of mine was a Ranger under Sujaal and Kune in Tuluk way, way back when.

First long lived character was in Allanak. Humorously, my one and only elf. He joined Kurac though, and only rarely showed up in Allanak thereafter, so I don't know what the real answer here should be.

When I started playing in December of 1993, players were limited to having no more than three characters. I promptly made two. Both started in Tuluk. The first got lost since my unix telnet client had no scroll back. I was about to ask this copper skinned dwarf with a where I could quit and soon didn't need to anymore. The second was a dwarf that joined a clan that decided to besiege Allanak. Yeah, that didn't work out too well either.

It's been so long I can't remember. My first character might have been old Tuluk or Allanak. They were so short lived I can't recall which came first. I only had one character in old Tuluk with most of the others coming from Allanak or Red Storm.

The first character I really got into (was not long lived) started in Red Storm after I responded to an advertisement on the old old forums for a ranger's apprentice to the Mul named Flower. It is at least the first character I can recall any details about as this was all before the account system.

First character was a Rinthi elf that fell down a hole and died in 2 hours. Second was a Rinthi elf that lived maybe a month?

My only really long-lived character was my third, a Kuraci half-breed that really should have died on multiple occasions and made it something like six months before I stored him.

Second character lived longer... I think it was a half-giant ranger (back when you didn't need karma for HGs) That one lasted a lot longer.

My first character was a sun cleric (yes, cleric) starting in Tuluk. Pre-karma, obviously. Yeah, things were a lot different then. The game was in the earlier stages of being developed.

I remember three things about him.

1. Being mocked by a water seller as he tried to figure out the syntax for filling a waterskin.

2. Meeting Suk-Krath the diety. In person. And being chided for being insufficiently worshipful. (Don't worry, this is pre-history and no longer is considered to have happened. The whole idea of cleric characters was removed, although the "temples" remain).

3. Finding a couple of NPCs at near-death in the old Tuluki bazaar. Being a cleric, I tried to bless them and then "ease their passage" (of course I wanted the loot too). Bad idea. Soldiers were just as fierce then as they are now.

I didn't play again for a couple years after that. By then (1994), the game was a lot closer to what we're familiar with now, although mages could still cast openly in the cities. I remember how annoyed people would get when a mage would stand up in Flints Tavern in the middle of a conversation and start spamming practice spells. There was a lot of OOC yelling.

First one was a pick-pocket out of Tuluk in 2001. Died after 3 hours to a wild halfling hunter. First character to last more than 2 days played was a pick-pocket out of the Rinth. Hung out with Serpent and learned the ropes from that crew and the nice, newbie-friendly staff running the Guild at the time. Got to extort 15k protection money from Borsail.

I decided to grace Allanak with my presence upon my first character! Twas a short-lived boy whom came about over a RL year ago, and shall be remembered fondly as another whom was under the impression that the 'KICK' command was, uh, well... supposed to be used in tavern brawls.

say wat? he can throw me into a table? fine, bitch. u about to get kicked. TAKE THIS, VILE BEAST! POW-- OMG!

Human assassin in Allanak, stored after 40 days played or something.

Looking back I still do the say stupid stuff I used to then now, I just throw in more emotes.

Allanak. First few PCs that I remember were in Allanak as well, most of which worked for Sorn Talid (or something like that), the leader of an indie merc/grebber company.  I remember the world seeming so big and scary, going to find some woman's inix in a hole in the tablelands, running into a whiran to whom Sorn gave a tent, didn't get the inix, got separated on the way back, me and a gemmed vivaduan trying to find our way back and taking quite a few RL hours to do so. Missing classes all that morning in the process (I had played all through the night). Kronibas shaking his head as he left for school and warning me about people he knew who ended up dropping out/flunking school because of WoW. Ah, good times.  What I wouldn't give to be a total noob again.  Alas, Reborn, I will never know you.

My first Tuluki (that I remember, at least) was my Kadian Agent, two or three years and two karma in.  Also, damn good times. Best crew I've ever played with.

First char: Elf in Luir's Outpost.
Lived about, what, four or five game hours before dying I -think-? I can't remember, it was all very confusing. I had a hardcore start because I had never played a MUD with an "inv" command that I knew about. So. Yeah. "What? List? Buy? View? Money? I have money in an -INVENTORY-?"

Elf assassin in red storm. Got taken in by a Mul silt skimmer captain, yarr. Died of thirst after a whole heap of junk across the known being the Mul's elven translator and inside city trader. I really appreciate a character with that much karma showing me the ropes.

Thanks again Shorty the Mul.

Technically I entered in Allanak on my first character, but I started actually not trying to die in cool wilderness rooms and learning things like the talk command in Tuluk. Figured out that at the time it was the safest city environment for someone who didn't make trouble, at least it seemed like it at the time, and I spent a lot of time doing a lot of independent nothing, which is normal for me, but at the time I didn't understand there was much else to get into.

I remember spending a hell of a lot of time on a ranger and using the track command once, and mostly because I could. No combat, learned a ride a few pcs later. Aaaah, newbness. A local pickpocket very politely subtly told me that I was such an easy target that he was taking pity on me and deciding not to go for the kill. What's funniest is I actually knew how to be subtle in Tuluk and now I don't anymore.

My first 5 or so PCs were in Red Storm. They were incredible throw-aways. I remember giving Galdun my password to login to a warrior I had because his had just been eaten by a beetle (and he was so into Arm at the time that he couldn't wait to apply for a new character. Maybe it was on a Friday, and Saturday Downtime was just too much). I was in High School at the time and left jazz class to answer the phone call and give him permission. I came home later that day to a dead warrior. His name was Malthalur. Long live the new flesh.

My next PC was in Tuluk -- And I would call that my first 'Real PC'. Everything previous, while a 'harsh introduction' to Armageddon, actually would likely have been a turn off if I were unfamiliar with MUDs already.

"Real" first character: Mid 90s. Allanak. I mostly played Harshlands, but I would jump over to Arm every now and then. I have a clear memory of my (3rd or 4th) character standing near Nak's western gate with another PC and looking at this third PC who was stunned/mortally wounded. We hemmed and hawed about what could have happened. Then I think he died in front of us. Someone else bustled in, asked us what happened, and then looted the body and left. The other PC and I stood around for a bit, shrugged, and went our separate ways. I promptly went out the gate and was killed by something. Probably a gith. I can recall thinking, "Wow. This game is really, really hard core."

First character as an adult returning to muds: Allanak. Got recruited into the AoD by Ashes and Zoan. I was the Carrot to Zoan's Vimes. City-based ranger - totally unaware of how to play the basic ranger skill set. I can only remember one occasion when I used track. I led Templar Nellie (sp?) on a wild goosechase through the desert looking for a magicker and only realized later that I had been "tracking" her half-giant guard. "Someone with long legs definitely came this way. I can't quite make out what way they went, but we're totally on their heels." Played for five months. The character was a well-meaning fellow, but as useful as a wet noodle.

Ashes told me to play in Storm, because he was in Storm. I make a ranger, sat in the Storm's End practising barrier. Ashes told me to roleplay practising it with thinks and feels. The whole time I was scared staff would beat the everloving shit out of me for doing it wrong, because Ashes presented to me that's the attitude around here for poor roleplay. Then I went outside and wandered south in search of ADVENTURE AND GOLD.

My first PC was in Tuluk, a ranger that lived about 9 months and got mixed up in all sorts of fun things.  I was lucky to fall in with helpful and experienced players who taught me how to survive.  Also my experience on other RPIs transferred well in most situations.  I'd like to also point out that the documentation on this game, including help files, is far superior to any other RPI I ever played, which is very useful when you're trying to survive with a combat/hunter PC.

My first PC was in Allanak. I played for a couple days and had awesome newbie adventures where vets did their damndest to keep me on. I got bored with my PC pretty quickly and went back to my IRE game but grew tired of the lack of RP over there--so I came back to Arm remembering how awesome those two days had been. Anyway: My first long lived was actually tribal human clan, so... yeah. I remember I tried/failed like 3 times to have one live longer than a week, then finally, I got it right and lived 2 weeks. :)

I still think the best closure you get in Armageddon is just moving on to the next character.

My first character was in Allanak.  I was recruited into a clan that was dead during my hours.  I stopped playing for a while, then came across some advice on the forums and stored that character.

My second character was in Tuluk, and got me hooked to the game.  Subguild crafter, got recruited into a merchant house.  Boss realized I was actually a sneaky, and then apprenticed me to another sneaky in one of the most memorable scenes I had ever had in any game to that point.
Former player as of 2/27/23, sending love.

The first one that survived more than a couple minutes was Allanak... so we'll just go with that.
