Indefinite hiatus

Started by Gimfalisette, March 31, 2009, 10:29:34 PM

Hi ARMers. I'm posting this message because y'all, out of all the communities of people on teh interwebs, are closest to my (evil, manipulative, kickass, data-slinging) heart. I debated not saying this and just quietly fading away, in order not to upset folks, but I feel like you guys deserve to know.

I'm going on indefinite hiatus from ARM. I haven't played in going on a month, due to real life stuff which has been under way since about mid-February. Things are changing--in good, growing ways--and I've got new priorities for my life and different ways I need to use my time now.

Please rest assured that my not being here has nothing at all to do with the direction or future of the game, anything the imms have or haven't done, anything the players have or haven't done, or with anything at all that I dislike about ARM. ARM is one of only two games I've really played long-term, and there's certainly not another to replace it. And even more, I really appreciate and enjoy the community of gamers here and the work of the imms. I'd be right in there having fun with y'all if I could do it without giving up my other goals and priorities.

I wish I could say when and if I'd be back, but I really don't know right now. ARM doesn't lend itself very well to casual play--at least, not for me, who so loves politics and plots. So just playing a little is not really an option for me; and I can't currently foresee having the large chunks of time required to really -play- ARM. But if I can come back sometime, I will.

I'll still be lurking around the forums, watching from afar, as it were. Feel free to PM me or IM me or whatever if you want. And let me know if there's an urgent need for data-crunching ;) Perhaps I'll pop in now and then if I think I've got anything useful to say on a topic.

Oh, and I will still be attending the Portland APM. I hope lots and lots of y'all will too; I'm so looking forward to meeting you.

Thanks for three years of fun together. I wish you all the best; kiss a bard and kick an elf for me.

The secret to great RP is having the balls to be weird and the brains to make it eloquent.

Well, you'll still be "around" so... Uh... I am not sure what to say.

Your awesome? Too bad I will not be roleplaying with you but I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other GDB'ers out there that do not actually play as often as they post and flame read through this forum.

;D

Miss ya, Gim, but I'm glad you're happy and winning at Real Life.

Hope we'll see you back when the time is good for you.

...On a happy note, I'm glad to hear that RL has picked up in a good way for you.  I'm attempting to do the same..which is decreasing my own Arm time, come to think of it.

Funny how that works out, eh?

you're the only one I ever retired a character for. (Toogy, The rangy, tuajje-skinned man)

:thumps a fist to his chest in salute.

See you when you get back.

Let me know if you stumble across anymore internet-bound villainesses that need vanquishing. 'Cause that was fun. Teehee.

Take care. When I play a leader, you are one of the players I think about. WWGD? Seriously.

Alas, I hardly knew ye.

You go south and one of the other directions that isn't north.  That is seriously the limit of my geographical knowledge of Arm.
Sarge?

You know you'll be back.

But anyway, good luck, have fun, and all until then.  :)

:P My husband pointed out to me last night that no one would believe this, due to April Fool's. But I -did- post on March 31st...and I did it specifically because it needed to be said and I didn't want to wait a few more days to get past the 1st. Oh well. It's actually for true this time.

I hope I will! And I hope you and I will get to play closely together sometime, like we'd hoped.

I am honored to have inspired you. ARM taught me a lot about real leadership, now I'm applying those lessons to real life. We were all a great crew, weren't we? AoD '07 4evar <3 Cutthroat, RGS, brytta, Shiroi, WWYD, alesix, Wish, Cale_Knight, Bogre, and all.

That was a sweet, too-short time in the 'rinth. I hope we get to play together again when I get back.

Good fortune on your own RL stuff, and let's both meet back here in the future for more good times.

I really miss all you guys already, but there's so much else I need and want to do. When my plans come to fruition, though, I'll actually -have- some free time to spend on ARM. But for now, I must set to making that happen.

I was reading this, and having a few friends, that play arm, speak of you with frequency I must say that these replys are a definent credit to you as a player and a person (I should imagine) I look forward to meeting such a personality in RL (PORTLAND APM).

That said...

Gimfalisette, best wishes to you.. (clears throat) His Light, Shade and profit... Smooth sands... and much happiness.

I still think the best closure you get in Armageddon is just moving on to the next character.

See, I just shouldn't have tried to list ANYONE. There's no pleasing you people :) Yes, Teal and Is Friday were there too and contributed their madness to the good times. Every clan needs a troublemaker...or several.

My hiatus looks like it will be sticking (except for the teeny tiny bit of GDBing I do), as in addition to the other things I'm working on (training for a triathlon, some writing), I've just found out this week that my mom has pancreatic cancer. So I expect that her treatment and all that will take up a significant amount of my time over the next long while.

Blech, it definitely will take a lot of time and energy, Gimf. But remember - the best thing you can do for your mom, is to make sure that her daughter is healthy and happy. I learned that about sisters in the past month, when I had to care for mine in and out of the hospital.

A drained, weary, grouchy, exhausted, weakened daughter/sister - is not much use to anyone. Make time to take care of you, too.

In lieu of Gimf, this is my official proclamation that I am indefinitely not playing.

Didn't know you... don't think I ever played with you... so...

Have fun with whatever you're doing.
After knocking back a mouthful of the contents of a full shot-glass, toking away on a rolled joint directly afterwards you say in desert-accented sirihish:
"They call me Tuber, and my son is Tuber-tot."

Yeah okay, Gimf, see you in a few weeks. ::) ;)

I wish. I don't even have time to play a PC that I never log in on, right now.
