Climbing gear

Generally speaking, there are several (maybe even many) objects in game that seem or are directly labelled as if they help with climbing skill checks. Some of them, when assessed, say "X might be used in climbing." Some of them do not.

If they don't, is it still possible they aid code-wise with climbing?

p.s.
Before people start screaming twink: I am still going to collect these items if my character decides he needs aid in climbing stuff, because even if they codedly do not assist him, they still SEEM as if they would to the character. Please do not yell metagaming at me. I'm just trying to figure out what this assess string means.

I think the 'might be used in climbing' or 'might be useful for cutting cloth' type messages were added relatively recently, and that many items that provide bonuses to certain actions, still aren't marked as such. So if it seems pretty obvious in the description that it was meant to help with something, chances are, it does. Yet it might not too.

I would compile a list of items, and email it to the mud account.

Or bug each one.

You win Armageddon, congratulations!  Type 'credits', then store your character and make a new one

well, I'd prefer to get an official response on this if it's deemed that I need to bug/email a list of everything, otherwise it'll be work for nothing. Rubs me the wrong way. I didn't get a response from wishing, so. I'll let the topic sit a while longer, maybe get an administrator response here. If it is deemed necessary, I'll be more than happy to submit stuff.

Most likely you'll get an official response from an email about "code", than on a public forums.

Staff do not say -this gives +7 to climb

Wow, that is so far off-base from anything I asked that I am just not even going to address it. Thanks for trying, but I'm done with this topic.

Seems to me that you're bitter, sir.

Yes.

And that's the end of that, huh?
There is no general doctrine which is not capable of eating out our morality if unchecked by the deep-seated habit of direct fellow-feeling with individual fellow-men. -George Eliot

If you have a skill, and you assess an object that can be used in that skill, the object might tell you so, but not always.

Typo'ing such ideas might get them changed, but might not.  In this example, probably not.  The reason is that objects can either be wearable, or be what we call a 'tool' (which is when they show you what they are used for).  But the two categories are mutually exclusive.

That will not be the case in 2.0, when an item will be able to be classified as multiple things.

Seems to me that you're not helping the recently-discussed matter of playe retention. I, too, would be put off if I posted a fairly simple question and received answers that were barely related, and further disgruntled by such comments.

Armageddon's code has many inconsistencies. I wouldn't be surprised if many items that were written before they started giving coded skill bonuses to appropriate items (if there was ever a time that they didn't; this is a hypothesis) were not updated after the fact. The near-tabooism of any mention of the code and its zealous guarding always puzzled me. I don't see what it's good for. Noone ever really asks for anything that can be used to their unfair advantage.

This isn't an issue of player retention, I've been here for years and will continue to play regardless of how the people on the GDB act. To be blunt, I just avoid the boards for this very reason. I asked a simple yes or no question and was given a range of answers that ranged from irrelevant to rude. Please, people, consider that the game is harsh. The boards do not need to be.

Tisiphone, thank you for answering the question. I appreciate that. Vanth, thank you for offering an 'official' response. Good Gortok, thank you for defending me.
