Mounts and Quitting Out

Let's say I'm playing a ranger, out hunting in the wilds somewhere, and my trusty erdlu is hitched to me.  I end up having to quit out due to some RL reason, and won't have time to run back to a town and stable the bird.  As a ranger, quitting in the wilds is no problem; but what about the mount?  Will it "quit out" with me or will it stand there, unhitched, waiting to be killed or stolen?

As long as you are riding it or have it hitched to you, or both, it will quit out with you.

Just to be safe, though, mount it, hitch it, then quit it.

so it really only saves one state, with riding state overwriting the hitched state.

And that reminds me of something.

One day, I was riding along, minding my own business, and watching east.

Someone logged in to the east, dismounts, then quit. Leaving their mount to me, so watch out for that.

Also, not 100% sure on this, but more than one person has told me that if you quit out with a mount hitched to you or while riding, you will lose any bags packed to that mount.

If this is wrong, PLEASE someone feel free to correct me, as I hate having to remember my PC's carrying limit when packing things to a mount, heh.

I do believe that you can quit out without losing bags, not sure.

90% sure. you don't lose anything. Why not try it with just an empty bag or waterskin?

I once had a character that didn't log out in cities.  All the things he kept packed on his mount were always preserved.
Any questions, comments, or condemnations to an eternity of fiery torment?

If you are mounted and/or hitched to the mount, it quits with you.  THAT SAID, when you log back in you are UNHITCHED.  So, if you happen to log in quickly, be sure you rehitch or remount before quitting again.  Just make sure that you are mounted and/or hitched before you quit, and you should have no problems.

As Agent_137 said, "if you have it hitched and you're riding it you come back in the game with it set as only riding.  so it really only saves on state, with riding state overwriting the hitched state."  In case it's unclear this means if you quit with your mount hitched but you're NOT riding it, it WILL be hitched when you log back in.  So if you're the type to log in and out in quick succession, I recommend always quitting dismounted to avoid potentially losing your mount.
