Alley ways, side roads and all around shortcuts

I would really like to see some of this added to Tuluk connecting some of the hotspots together more (tembo's tooth, tribal market and poets circle). One of the gripes i've heard is how people wish the tribal market and poets corner replaced the red commons, well i do wish it did but i don't think its possible ICly so having alleys and side roads you can enter go through and come on the other side (lawless?)  is a possible solution.

Again our cultures revolve around convenience and minimal delays, when something is inconvenient people generally avoid it. I do believe some people perceive taking the time to go around all those rooms to get to those places as inconvienient and therefore people dont go there unless they need or want something from that area. It probably sounds silly to some, but its unfortunately true, and i am sure imms might have noticed it in other areas of the game.

I think this idea has been suggested before but i am currently bored and its been on my mind a while.

You mean alleys like in Red Storm that you enter as if it was a house? I actually think it might make a fun addition, but the main roads in Tuluk are already pretty much the easiest ways to get anywhere by layout, unless you want like a 5-room alley that spans the distance of 10 rooms in the city proper. The idea is nice but when I played in Tuluk it was already rare to meet anyone outside of the Sanctuary and making alternative ways to get from one place to the other would just make random meetings even more scarce.

I'm not so sure about making it lawless though, it could easily become a pk-haven. If it was implemented I would like to see a crime flag for attacking people, although stealing could be safer to do there.

Yeah basically 3 room or so alleys that span the distance between 10+ rooms. Basically instead of going around, just cutting across. Also not completely lawless but definately more of a delay before omgwtfpawnage NPC units come raining down pain on your PC, that would be nice addition but  its not the main idea.

I think Allanak has quite a few alleys.  I'm happy with that.

Tuluk, I think, could use some.  There are quite a few blocks of nothing in the middle of the city that could have a few alleys.  I wouldn't suggest them strictly for the purposes of shortcuts, though.  For those that would use such as a shortcut, okay.  I would want it so that there was somewhere off the road for the sneakthief and mugger to hang out in, waiting on a victim to pass by.

I like the idea of alleys if they run on a diagonal. See what I mean?

Ghardoan:A pitiful voice rises from the well below, "I've fallen and I can't get up..."

nak has plenty of alleys, and while I like the ones in redstorm, I do prefer the open ones similiar to nak.

Not that they aren't there, but it would be beneficial to have more.

There are super secret alleyways in Storm?

I didn't know.  :(

have you walked around storm?

they're not -that- secret.

in fact, they're mentioned in the "what you know" doc:

QuoteVillage though it is, there are many alleys and small paths in Red Storm, and some of these can be extremely dangerous. Just because violence is frowned upon by the militia does not mean that they will always be there to protect innocent passersby.

You know, old Tuluk used to be quite complicated whenit came to rooms. You certainly couldn't map it on an even scaled grid. I enjoyed that element of some areas (particularly the Warrens and the crowded Temple of the Elements). However, I believe staff policy is generlaly tilted toward building areas on a grid now, which also has its benefits.

Things are slowly improving in Tuluk though, and I am certain that the Sanctuary will be heavily contested as the prime spot to hang in the future.

There are already plans in place to add some extra side-streets, alleys, and other city-wide changes to Tuluk which will happen in the coming months/year. Find out the rest IC. HAH.

The Red Sun Commons might be more attractive if there were actually things there. For most characters it's just a big, annoying, useless plaza.

I've said basically the same thing before. I was told that if I wanted to see more there, write it up and send it in.

When Tuluk was first rebuilt after the occupation, it was larger than it is now, in terms of the number of rooms.  I liked it this way and was opposed to the size-reduction that followed.  I really enjoyed the vast sprawl and how long it took to walk from one side of the city to another.  Now it is half the size it used to be, and I certainly wouldn't want to see it made even smaller with shortcuts.
The next time you lament over the 10-room distance you must traverse, imagine if it was a distance of 35 rooms instead, and you'll realize you're already taking a shortcut.

You'll still be able to go the long way if you want.

I'd love to see more redstorm-like lawless alleys in other cities.

Any questions, comments, or condemnations to an eternity of fiery torment?

I LIVE FOR RED STORM ALLEYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact just thinking about them has inspired me to make a new special app.

Special app:

Character name: Gorbash
race: mul
guild :warrior
subclass: thug

This mul is very strong and muscular, he also has the tattoo of a wyvern on the head which is mangled. He is grey skinned and bald and has pointed ears, his face a mask of pain and fury. Scars are all over his tough skin and you can see that he is no stranger to battle.

background:

Gorbash is an escaped slave! And he roams the red storm alleys, looking for people to kill with his twin bone blades of death. He knows no mercy and never speaks to anyone: he only lets out his fury by bashing those who enter his alley as many times as possible, trying to make them never able to stand up... so that they know what it is to crawl like a slave! He will attack anyone and everyone, and while some may call him insane, others call him a free mul.

Not really. Who goes in the rinth but rinthi's and dumb bynners? Doesn't make fertile grounds for a mugger.

I'd like to answer why in more detail, but I'm afraid telling too much might be IC.

Side streets in Tuluk would rock.

I mean, anyone that knows tuluk now realizes there's actually enough room between each of those long ass streets to fit allanak in every quarter. Why not some side streets too?

One thing that I think would really add to the in-depth, gritty feel of the game would be lots of little nooks, alleys, sewer grates, run-down shacks and things of that nature where you have to type "enter alley" to get into and you wouldn't notice it unless you checked the room description and maybe some that are not hidden as well.  I think at least a little more of this sort of thing is needed in most places in the game.  Outdoor counterparts of something like this would probably help out as well. (I know some have been added over the last few years and I like them... more of these of various types would be cool)

Tuluk has side-streets and alleys in the part of town you'd expect to see them.

Unfortunately, it's not an area that has much to draw PCs in.
