Two Lists

With the primary game shutting down in about 11 days (February 10) so that staff can begin work in earnest on Seasons, I wanted to give an update on where we are.  We've organized a lot of our discussions and have come up with two lists:  Items required to open for season one, and stretch goals.

The items required are what we have identified must be in place or changed in order to have a successful Season One.  We will remain closed until all items in this list are completed.  We're still expecting that to take 2 - 3 months.

The stretch goals are things we'll work on and if we can get them done in time, then we'll put them in.  But they will not hold up re-opening.  Items from this list that are not completed by the opening of Seasons One will continue development and put in place once finished.

It's possible we may tweak some items on this list if it becomes clear we need to while things progress, but otherwise we're pretty confident in these items and our ability to get them done.  Also, we'll be making a follow-up post to this shortly talking about status of the current game and player plots.


REQUIRED FOR SEASON ONE:

Code
- Separation of game data and library, isolating them so we can freely make changes while retaining the original/previous
- Character conversions / storage - Automation to store all non-staff characters
- Implement 10-point karma system
- Specific Magick Project
- Minor tweaks to stats
- Minor tweaks to City Elves


Community
- GDB / Discord overhaul, addressing toxicity in the community
- Newsletter about Seasons
- New Website
- Request Tool tweaks (category changes, character limits)


Game
- We're going to start Season One in the 75th year of the 23rd age so that we can have an in game Kings Age celebration at the beginning.  This is a 52 year jump from now.
- Finish Grey Forest revamp
- Map size and access.  Define what is open and what it looks like, and make the changes.
- Core major storylines
- Staff-generated subplots
- Cultural Magick tweaks
- Update Allanak, RSV, etc. to show the time jump (NPC's who've aged out get updated, use newer room enhancement features).
- Relevant game documentation updates to reflect any changes above
- Minor updates to City Elves (in game)




STRETCH (Will do if time permits, but not required to open):

Code
- Overhaul / fix stats
- Overhaul / fix regen rates
- Overhaul / streamline PClans
- Combat simplification
- Taxes - simplify and clarify
- Staff tools work/updates
- Move shops to SQL and work on persistent inventories across reboots
- Poison tweaks
- Banking tweaks
- Skill gains overhaul


Game
- Sparring Dummies / NPCS - Consistency among types of clans, access
- City Elf Overhaul
- Labyrinth Overhaul
- Rework GMH from a playability standpoint
