Title: Longest Lived
Post by: Kismetic on October 12, 2023, 03:52:54 AM
What's the longest lived character you've ever heard of?  Purely curious.  Maybe staff knows.  Wondering what is the longest days played character Arm has ever had.

I played one for 2.7-2.8 RL years. When he died I was glad to be able to do something new to be honest and he died how I always imagined and hoped it happen, not falling/ Passing out drunk while logged in/ NPCs thankfully, so I was very satisfied with the death.

Days played around 140.

I took a lot of risks with him so I was very surprised he lived as long as he did. I hope some of you enjoyed interacting with him!

I never intended him to be a leader due to his rigid individualist personality, and the anarco-socialist nature of his clan was designed around listening to each other and freedom and individuality.

He detested Sorcerers and Slaver-Lords and those who served them.

There were a lot of good times, playing with those of you I played with.

You know who you are you diamonds. Kudos to you all over those years, there were some great adventures and battles.

I can't share any specific details for a long time due to game rules.

The longest I have ever seen played was Lord Timeotho Fale I think. He aged so much that he could no longer stay concious while using a single way from memory, so ICly he died in his sleep as an old man.

Very well played and machiavellan PC whoever that was!

I don't have Oseres Kadius in the list, because he was before biographies worked (2004), but he was around 74 days lived - but he only lived for 12 months.

Depends on whether you mean in RL time like Inks' multiple wolves PC, or if you mean like days played because I've seen people pack on the time in short periods of time.

A few that pop out in my mind:
Timo Fale, because he was having age-related heartattacks
Masa

Personally? Probably a mix between Legion Sergeant Creek or Byn Sergeant Rush. Neither were particularly super-long-lived, but they had 50-70 days played on them by the end I think.

Timo Fale by far. One of my favorite RP moments ever was when he and I tricked a templar into thinking I was killing him in his estate. Lol. Great Player whoever that was/is.

Timotheo, Flow, Masa. Also Sargax started out as a PC and I believe by the end, was an NPC - but he was pretty long-lived if I remember right.

My personal longest was just under a year and a half, her name was Binna and she met her end in July of 2022. Also known as Grebs, she was a miscreant/wind_illusion bondmate of a mul PC who died long before she did.

Her ending was an epic tragedy.

Pearl Terash?  Ysania Kadius?  Weren't they like super long lived?  I wasn't paying attention to how long other people lived at that point, I was dying too much and just got constantly reminded from time to time that they were STILL alive.

Longest PCS I've ever interacted with were easily Brand or Timotheo, old fucks.

My longest was Calik, 16-18. Not super old by any means but I had a lot of fun.

I had heard stories that Red Meso was over 250 days played.  I wonder, too, about characters like Tallis, Raleris.  Timotheo, too.  How many days played does one get after several RL years?  I had a couple characters live to the two year mark, 89 and 65 dp respectively, but I'm fairly sure that doesn't scratch the surface of what has been.  I'm simply curious if anyone knows the most days played on any character.  Thanks for the replies.   :)

My longest was Nell, at 122 days, 6 hours, 20 minutes before deciding on storage to do other things.

Then I had Fairuza at 75 days, 8 hours, 41 minutes before storage once again.

Lady Templar Dorothea (Thea) Salarr was 44 days, 6 hours, 19 minutes before, once again, storage.

And Sylania al'Raekeen was just behind her at 42 days, 10 hours, 24 minutes (yep, storage XD).

Pretty sure I had one or two before bios were saved on the site that got up in those ranges, specifically a Wyvern character I played, but I truly don't remember.

My longest was Otikus at 142 days and 22 IG years - the Magistrate of the Jade Sabers Legion and Jal bastard. The long standing AOD crew was of course Samos Rennik, Lieutenant Paryl and the Sergeant played by Gimfalisette.

My second was Faithful Lord Aon Uaptal- clocked in at 68 days over an IRL year.

See, Drovian half giant had 51 days. I've a few others at 20-30 days played: Nameless, the Red Storm amnestic, Corporal Strike, Salt-Eye, Yeek, Violent Prize.

Longest templars I remember:
Samos, Malenthis, Elithan, Eunoli, that other Lirathan who's name escapes me, the Allanaki Inquisitor.

Sorcerer- the Plainsman is the longest lasting I can remember.

Agents/Merchants/Advisors/GMH- there's quite a few. All the Pearls, Tasok, Brand, Shatuka, Dueden, Rink, Midge...

Tallis would be my guess, she had to be one of the longest hands down.

My own best was Agent Brethel-da of House Kurac, at 147 days.
Played him from the age of 25 to 53, though I believe I did take a break for a while.
It looks like it was from 2006 to 2010?
Crazy times.

They can't, really. The GMH's donate their children to the templar program, where they proceed to be brainwashed by said program until they lose most or all loyalty to their clan.

It's really just a regular last name rather than a clan at that point.

I think zeal to the Highlord or Sun King trumps any familial loyalty no matter where they come from. Assuming that a Dasari Faithful Lady will side with Dasari or a Borsail Lord Templar with side with Borsail is not a given.

Not to derail this thread too much, but anyone can become a Templar, even a basic commoner, to my understanding. It's just an extremely rare happening. There's even a famous GMH-named Templar in the timeline if I remember right!  :D  I believe (I could be wrong) that Templars are predominantly from noble blood, simply because noble blood = better blood, and thus more suited to carrying out His Law.

Like Narf said (better than I could have) though, there's a big brainwash that happens to kill all that loyalty to family, to ensure a Templar's focus is on Allanak/Highlord, and not their blood family.

(Thea was a total nepo-baby; her Red Robe father had a fling with a Salarri woman, they had Thea, and he decided his bastard blood was going to follow in his footsteps.)

Ryssa Salarr - About 50 days

6 RL months seems to be the hump I've yet to fully clear.

Lohar, Flavio, and Guaril all ended up around there for various reasons.

I might have a couple of others that reached that mark. But those are the three that come to my mind when I think of my longest lived.

Wow lots of memories seeing some of the names on everyone's lists!

Flay
Human
Played from 24 years old to 51
Assassin / Jeweler
Born in Allanak.
Never killed Anybody lol
She was my longest, over 2RL, same timeline as Red Meso we were best buds heh

Mika/krathi, Kilento/whiran, and Walker/elkros were 3 of my longest lived gemmed at about 30-40 days played each

Kilento had the most insanely savage death of any character I've ever played though, she wins that prize!  Even another player who was there to bear witness reached out to me afterwards just to say Holy Fuckin' Shit That Was Crazy!

59 days 14hours is my longest. A sorcerer named the Plainsman.  He lived roughly 3 RL years, so that's what, about 20 days a RL year, which isn't a lot, considering.  He was a pretty powerful sorcerer, became well known.  And had the most lame, typical Armageddon death.  I screwed up and lost my bearings and walked straight into the Silt Sea death room by accident.

I played Hoge for about a RL year, with 100 days played. Honestly that was unhealthy to spend that much time of a year playing a PC, most of it was RP for sure, I had a ludicrously good time playing with you all. Think I lived with one of Jihelu's PC's for a while which is what reminded me.

Covid and a breakup contributed to that days played in that time...I wrote about five paragraphs here about the adventures and antics but cut it o7.

If anyone has the log of Hoge performing that eight verse epic in Red's for Lady Jal's party about the halflings please submit it to original submissions I am begging you.

Haha bet he never expected to even get that first one.

I made like 90k+ on Hoge without any grebbing of any sort and mostly spent it all on booze, spice, and high stakes gambling. Also looking nice though!

Highest paying was assassinating a mindworm for 25k who he had been tracking for years and like...randomly walked into the Gaj, wearing most of the same equipment he remembered. The next week I waited hours in every bar until I saw the guy, tracked him back to an apartment and Draxxed them Sklounst.

Think Hoge died with four small in his bank account. Never have I RPed a more realistic downward spiral and cycles of guilt and self torture on any of my PCs.

Hoge is legitimately my favorite Armageddon character I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It was borderline a DnD escapade that led them to meeting and a fun friendship.

What started as a blackmail ended as an apartment robbery of the highest order.

Since we are giving hours, I'll tell mine. But before you all go "this dude is insane" i just want to clarify: Much of this is idle afk time where my leaders wait for way messages while I cook/clean/adult. If you ever messages one of my leaders and didn't hear back for 5-10 rl minutes. This is why.

But I average around 60 days played in 6 months. Or 10rl days logged in per month.
Title: Re: Longest Lived
Post by: Windstorm on October 18, 2023, 06:00:16 PM
My habit sometimes, due to other places I've played and like the fact that I'm just home a lot, is sometimes to just be logged in all the time unless my PC is struggling for food or water.

I do wish there was a way to separate active time doing stuff from just being logged in. I played (OTHER M**) briefly, which had this feature, and the ratio for me was like 1:5. I'd be curious how much time, on my PCs, I actually spent playing versus how long I was just logged in.

Longest IC time played though was 18 Zalanthan years on a single PC, but I swear it felt like longer at the time.

Lyvrenxice Oash had 110 days played. That feels crazy in hindsight, except my hometown was destroyed by an earthquake and I literally had nothing else to do. I had her for about 2 RL years.

The rest of my decent PCs come in between 15 and 40 days played over the years.

According to the bio tool, my longest lived was Lord Iancu Oash, played from age 19 to his death at age 44.
Second place is a tie, with Warlord Kharad Tor played from 17 to death at 34, and Faithful Lady Isatep Mrenteki from 18 to death at 35.

Before the bio tool, though, I had a Fale guard named Hacket 'the Hatchet' Melor who probably aged about 40 years in game and is the only character I've stored out of elderlyness.

Loved playing with Ongi. Was such a shame right when were "finally" kicking off, I got smoked by a fkn sorc near Tuluk when I was semi afk on the phone (Erthalis). I didn't hear what happened to Ongi though cause I had to have a break.

The Tuluki Legions, PC edition, were basically originally hired as Elithan's personal guard.

Serilla made an entire tribe of elves extinct, because she wished it to be so.

They were around a while.

Longest in terms of RL time elapsed was Lyklie, at about 4 years and 3 months. 63 days played.

Seriously that's a huge time though!  I remember thinking after my 2 years RL character died, I don't know how to play anything else anymore?!  :P

Side note, the "likely" pun was definitely intended. My inspiration for the character name Lyklie was the name Maeby from Arrested Development, although the character concept was not related at all.

Yes, it's very disorienting to start a new role after a long time in a particular role. Although I usually find that, in that situation, I have at least a few character concepts in mind that I've been waiting to try. I stored Lyklie and by that time I was definitely ready for something new. It was also kind of weird in Lyklie was a gemmed Drovian, and over that 4+ year span there had been some nerfing, so the experience of playing a Drovian evolved a bit over time. By the time I stored Lyklie, Drovians of any kind were no longer a player option (not my fault, I promise). I will say, to the staff's credit, I was never pressured to store, and certainly wasn't force stored. But at some point I was definitely ready to explore other options.

The merchant/enchantment Wril. Was probably my longest lived. But mainly due to intermittent absences.

Lived from 18 to 35.  Though he looked like elderly due to his breed magick.

Hours played: 64 days.

I swear I had people who lived for 2-3 game years and had more hours played then Wril.

The character I remember most fondly

Kozh.

He was a mind bender, but I had such an awesome time in the Byn, I kind of wished he was a regular ranger. All the best memories came from mundane shenanagins, not the spooky shit.

It's been a year since he died, and if anyone is still alive that knew him, they'll be wiped soon, so...
The longest lived PC that I played was about 38 days played an lived for about a RL six month, but it was by far the best experience I had in arm with the possible exception of my current who while he has not be around as long IRL time, i have about 40 days on.

Zan the Maker/Echri the Destroyer was a mul I played when I came back to arm after about a four or five year break. I saw a post for a Red Storm RPT coming up, so I jumped in the game about a week or ten days before to try to level up enough to survive whatever the RPT was.  It ended up being a recruiting mission for Moth Whisper. They characters I interacted with were the absolute best experience I have had with a a "clan". The isolation led to some really cool experiences, the most notable i remember was us staving and sick of eating ants and centipedes due to our isolation, so we killed one of our aurochs and soent a LOT of time chewing, like 15 minute of RP over us being both thankful that we had real meat and the constant chewing required to process the tough stuff. It was a very "Armageddon" experience.

After about a year of being nearly constantly spiced, and than a similar amount of time trying to clean his system, he ended up with MPD, cool, calm Zandir (Zan the Maker) and his repressed bestial nature rage-monster Echri the Destroyer.  Half of my time was spent roleplaying them arguing and stuff with each other through thinks and feels. It was awesome, and everyone I was around was so wonderful to play with.

One of the cool things about writing a character with MPD was not only creating different RP styles for the two minds, but also the additional two for when one was pretending to be the other.

I always thought Nina Dobrev did a fantastic job of playing of playing Elana, Catherine, Catherine playing Elana, and Elana playing Catherine, and tried to imitate that.

My longest lived was about 2 RL years and about 70 days played back in 2002-2004 - I was on and off a bit as was travelling around the world for a year during that time. He was a Guild boss named Digger. He was about my 5th PC in Arm and was when the game stared to click for me. He was an Assassin / Thug if I remember right but I never trained any of his skills really so despite his weak strength I dressed him up in heavy looking armour to look like a warrior. After living for a while people just assumed he was tough and left him alone but in reality he couldn't fight his way out of paper bag. He got a bit more buff towards the end of his life when he was turned into a vampire. Died in true Arm style to the decrepit stubby half-elf NPC in the 'rinth - think he was knocked unconscious and then killed (the 'rinth was definitely a bit more dangerous back then). His corpse would have been quite the haul - amongst other things he had not one but two metal daggers on him from after doing some stuff where a red robe and blue robe got killed. Was a bit of a relief at that point though as I was ready to move on and try something new.

The only other 2 PCs I managed to get over 50 days were Feach a mindbender who worked for Tor and got up to a lot of stuff before getting one-shot backstabbed and Jackrum a Byn Sarge who died to a stupid mekillot.

The game used to have more dnd tropes and undead plots.

From liches, banshees (undead dwarves), belgoi, salt vampires; there's a really really really old Blackwing-SunRunner-DStalker plot from a different era where a Vampire took possession of a [specific] sword.

On topic though, my longest lived character is my current character who is over a year old, and has had to fight for every bit of minimal staff support I've received in my player plot with no updates on that plot in 8 months, wasn't supported and was in fact ignored in the new-copper-war plot before being denied, part of a clan that was in quite an ideal enough location to see and deal with major worldplot and only ever saw 1 animation surrounding it specifically. The producers have animated more for my clan than storytellers have.

There are other stories, but I can't talk about them.

The short answer is that the clan that used to have it either reclaimed possession of it or fabricated a new one that was identical.

The long answer is idk if staff at the time even knew the sword had been "lost forever".

I remember Methyas Groot well.  My HG Bard Billsie adored him.  He was a mentor to her, patiently teaching her both hunting skills and barding skills.

For hunting he taught her the steps to skin animals which she used all her life, saying out loud, "first you roll it over, then you make a cut down the belly, then number four you...." etc etc.

Methyas got co-writing credits for adding the refrain to Billsie's clay digging song:  oooey goooey clay, ooey, gooey clay.

Wow, that was a long time ago!  Good to see you back.

I don't blame Ruman (for that). There were ... other issues that made Mordat returning to Tuluk an ill-outcome.

It JUST SO HAPPENED that while in Luirs, I as the player royally fucked up and confirmed what was already known by the Templarate.

I will say, between you the other templar and the staff templar? THANK you for letting me have the scene, rather than executing outright. Because you could have.

99% of my executions were like that. Except one.

That would be me too :D

It was.... a learning curve but eventually the final scene gave me good closure. I'm not sure if you were able to read her thoughts at that moment, but the stress made her revert to her old life as a slave within the room, doing mindless tasks. She disassociated and was grateful for the final years of her life. She knew she'd die soon...

My longest lived was Jalynn, aka Freckles, aka Hawk of the Guild.

Played from 16 years old to 32 years old before storing.
Fence / Empowerment Rukkian

Jalynn was super fun to play at times and very slow at times off-peak in the Rinth.  She started off by helping Yap in the Zien warehouse and working with the Den of Wonders and eventually became the PC Guild Boss.

Jumbo aka Captain Stomp - Half-Giant
Played from 19 years old to 34
Raider / Stone_Touched
Born in Red Storm Village, started play in Red Storm Village.
Played for 91 days, 1 hours, 17 minutes.
Sdesc: the looming, water-fat half giant

Lots of stories with Jumbo. Lived into the shutdown after 129 bio entries and many adventures.

Keen aka King Rat - Dwarf
Played from 30 years old to 31
Stalker / Water_Touched
Born in Allanak, started play in Allanak.
Played for 23 days, 3 hours, 24 minutes.
Sdesc: the chiseled, hard-eyed dwarf

Keen joined the guild during this period when I saw a lot of really cool mutants although he was horrible. He got so many of his friends killed by accident and negligence, got perma wanted early and later got a bounty for asking around to learn more about magick. Eventually met the sorcerer (Theo?) who sent him after a prepared sun runner mage and tried charging them down after failing to offer the right tribute. He died so fast he couldn't even try to flee.

Otherwise I played a lot of non influential hunters, dwarves, and rinther elves over the years. I got hooked in 03 with an elf who joined the guild and had their tongue cut out for some reason.

My longest played character was Remi.  Feb 19, 2018 - Jun 06, 2019
Human
Played from 13 years old to 23
Stood 4 cords, 10 inches tall. Weighed 8 ten-stone.
Merchant / Outlaw
Born in Allanak, started play in Allanak.
Played for 80 days, 12 hours, 9 minutes.
Sdesc: Originally, the dusky-skinned, ebon-haired teen, updated to the dusky-skinned, ebon-haired man

Final mdesc:
Tall for his race, this man's skin has been darkened further by the sun, short,
unruly black hair crowning his head. Smoky-grey eyes are set in a swarthy
face, accented by slender, dark eyebrows. A slightly-curved aquiline nose sits
above a pair of firm, but thick and soft-looking lips, revealing relatively
clean and even teeth when parted. His cheeks are a little plump, dimples
appearing at times. A pair of rounded ears, a strong chin and square jawline
complete his masculine features. He possesses a solid and sturdy build, broad
shoulders and chest, showing the definition of someone familiar with manual
labor, his arms and legs looking toned and fit, his work-worn hands and large feet
proportionate to his frame.

He got up to a lot of nonsense, but don't know if he was memorable. His designs are still around, mostly, or were before shutdown.

Most notable designs are probably:
a vicious-looking and razor-sharp, glass-toothed sawblade
a set of polished, drov-plated black leather arm guards
a set of polished, plated black leather leg-guards
a polished, razor-crested spiked black helm
a razor-sharp, Gaj-carved battle knife

Thryzn
Played from 21 years old to 31
Stood 5 cords, 9 inches tall. Weighed 10 ten-stone.
Raider / Outdoorsman
Born in Bashurit, started play in Bashurit.
Played for 169 days, 14 hours, 38 minutes.
Sdesc: the hulking, spine-ridged thryzn
Keywords: hulking spine-ridged thryzn Dash Gru Wavescale Witchbane

Stats: Absolutely incredible strength, exceptional agility, extremely good endurance, good wisdom

The thryzn before you is without doubt one of the largest of his kind,
not only in size but height.  This thryzn bears exemplary muscle tone,
sculpting his frame.  Every inch of the thryzn seems to be wrought in thick
corded muscles, starting from his thick bulky neck which flows down to broad
boxy shoulders, further yet to the bulging biceps and forearms, veins
popping out rather distinctly, finally ending in ham sized hands whose
knuckles are scarred and raised as though having seen a lifetime of
hardship.  A broad, barrel chest connects to a deeply notched abdomen
completing the man's brawny upper half, no less matched by the sturdy
pillars which support him.  The man stares upon the world with dark-grey,
thoughtful eyes.  His eyes are vertically slitted, reptilian like, yet he
bears a second eyelid that is horizontal, protecting from sand and silt.
The aforementioned eyes are set aside a blunted and twisted nose ,having the
appearance of being broken more than once or twice.  He is razor-shorn bald,
with a smooth dome of a scalp.  Two very thick, pitch-black horns rise out
of his forehead, curling back not unlike a duskhorns.  Despite his mood or
mannerisms, the combined total of his appearance always gives the impression
of deep, unrelenting grimness.  His feet number six in toes, each having
long, elongated, sharp nails.  A series of arching bone spines runs the
length of his forearm from wrists  to elbows.  Each pitch black spine curves
slightly back before ending in a tapering sharp barb, each forearm holding a
serrated edge.  Dark, diamond-patterns scales make up the length of his tail
like plating, while a midrib runs the center of each scale ending in a tiny
barb.  A series of black, razor-edged spines protrude from the top center of
the tail,  flattening towards its end.  His skin is a dark green hue.  He is
entirely hairless.

Grudash is my longest lived and (was still living when the game shut down). Honestly, one of my more layered, developed PC's. For those that knew him, he really was becoming that esteemed wise mountain sage. He had flaws of course. His anger, his low tolerance for disrespect, his open-mindedness, (which he was shunned for by his elders for caring too much about the outside world, Grudash felt differently and adamantly pushed his neutral-manipulate both sides to cater to the Bashurit and give us information or stuff we want and need agenda forward irregardless of what the elders had to say. It worked out perfectly, minus the mage stuff) Feel free to ask me any questions about him and his short-saga!

This was an amazing first character, she got into so many things!

Name: Kota
Sdesc: The athletic, golden-haired woman
Mdesc: The woman standing before you is a little over five cords and has an athletic form. She is sporting long, golden, dread-locked hair that is beaded with bone-like beads. Her facial features are sharp, with piercing sapphire-like eyes and a small oval nevus on her lower left cheek that is barely visible due to her sun-browned skin. Her hands are calloused and her torso seems to match the rest of her athletically toned body.

Born and raised in Allanak!
Lived from 30 to 32 years old.
Played for a total of 53 days, 6 hours, and 45 minutes

Hey gang. I'd just like to say that most of the complaints about "insufficient" RP are ones I never thought applied north of Luir's. I've always been happy with the characters inhabitating the wild and wacky Northern sphere, and though I wasn't happy with how I ended I don't regret a moment of time spent IG. I learned a whole lot that has bigger applications.

Anyways, this is likely not going to be surprising, but here:

Galdara

Stood 4 cords, 2 inches tall. Weighed 7 ten-stone.
Raider / Forester
Born in Tuluk, started play in Tuluk.

I don't think it's likely that I'll be able to speak about every single Tuluki player, in a sphere absolutely packed with top-tier characters, but Petal in particular had it going on. Easily one of the most underrated Circle members, and he could have gone all the way if the sphere stayed open.

Well Days played represent the Real Life hours played on that character where as Years Lived refer to that character, which pass by regardless if you're play the game or not.  Some people have jobs where they can be logged in to Arm all day every day so ya.. those numbers can sway apart viciously for some ppl's characters.

The character I had for 2 RL years only had 40 something days on her, be she aged IG enough to go through 2 sdesc changes.

I played Magus and First Sword I-setaari formerly of Tuluk, House Kurac, under Negatro Borsail and then finally House Oash, A.K.A. Ruby of Allanak, A.K.A. Nikiz of Moth Whisper's Dragonservants. I played her for 10 IC years, from age 20 to age 30.

Her story is the most unlikely of Armageddon stories I know, though I'm sure there are plenty of others. It is a tale impossible enough that I felt almost ridiculous telling it ingame. She started play written to be an incredibly common Tuluki citizen from the Warrens who happened to have an elemental affinity but was unaware of it. I had no idea about certain functions within Tuluk so she soon found herself wanted, had to escape in mostly her newbie clothes, and nearly died three times in escaping to anywhere resembling safety.

What followed in the RL year I played her was danger, emotion, love, war, politics, rises and falls, and a wild series of incredibly unlikely escapes from near-death situations, right up until the day before the game closed down in which she almost died again. She was undoubtedly a controversial figure both IC and OOC, but she rest assured that despite her detractors and all the crazy sex rumors about her, did not just apartment spar or fuck anybody to get where she was. She went to every RPT I was able to and escaped bloody, ragged, near-dead and walking alone through the desert more times than anyone but me could be aware of. She took the risks, got herself in trouble, betrayed and was betrayed, and honestly lived the most Armageddon life I imagine I ever could have conjured.

I could go on and on with the details but I'll spare you here - feel free to DM me though! For me, she'll be a hard act to follow and even kind of daunting in that way. At the end, I feel like she was the best PC I'll have ever played. Thank you, to everyone who was a part.

When the game was shutting down, she was singing songs and playing her lap harp (a one handed instrument!) in Red's Retreat. It was a beautiful final scene.

I also just wanted to echo here something that has bugged me for decades.

Some people can spend 6-8 hours a day on the game, during which they can "AFK spar" critters or other-such activities that make a 20d played character scary. They might hit that 15d played plateau within a RL month.

Others can play 4 hours a week and rarely if ever get 20d played, but they survive for IC years.

Previous incarnations of staff have preferred the players who only spend a few hours a week in game and otherwise write their stories in the background. It doesn't matter what you've done for the past RL month or who you know or killed, only that you were "around IC for a long time to have an impact".

I hope if Armageddon is to have a future, the metrics of days played/IC years survived weigh far less than the stories being told.

I've always preferred having a PC with a backstory rooted in IC events over a fully virtual background, which is why I started selecting younger ages at chargen and trying to time my first logins to coincide with an RPT so I could get some instant backstory. The interest/investment/growth is all bundled up in fleshing out this character's story and wanting to see how it ends.

@Dan I remember most of your characters! Or I should say I remember the sdescs, remember some names. With some, I remember events and scenes. Prophet stands out from the "end of the world" days. Our characters interacted a few times.

Weringa doesn't ring a bell, I might've been playing north at that time.

Arad, yup, definitely.

I vaguely remember L.T. Drydek.

Raz, Sapir, Goon, and Belly, all four for absolute sure!  Great interactions. I was mad when I heard that Belly was dead, and then he showed up after that - and then he disappeared again. Never really got to know the backstory of  all that, even though I was kinda involved in the situation from the sidelines.

Super short compared to most people here, but in my year of playing, Dirk was easily my favorite character and I really wanted to play him even longer, but then the game closed and all that. I would also liiike to think that 244 hours played is a good amount? I really wish I could re-live this character, had so many good interactions with so many fantastic players! (Red) Meso was said to be around 350 days when he was executed (allegedly) for the failure of his superiors.   Also, his two dwarven friends, Shrinty and ... ?

Qoriya, the White Hammer.

Armali and her very quiet friend whose name started with a D.

The Heru.

Was Albie the half giant a pc or npc?

Talis the hostess.

Byn sergeant Oli.

How long did Byn Sergeant Ryatt last?

Byn Sergeant Heejo / Maheejo.

Byn Sergeant Liya / Noose.

Byn Sergeant Sic.

Lieutenant Kolm.

When I did an exhaustive survey several years ago, anything over 90d except merchants were in the "rare air".  Almost no Byn sergeants stayed in that role for more than 30d, although some like Rink had significant careers before and after.

Several of the GMH merchants made it to 120-200d played.

Almost no elementalists I could find made it past 50d played.

One of the benefits of a seasonal approach to the game is that all the active storylines will end.  We will be able to speak about the characters we played and the interactions we had with others because they shouldn't have an impact on the new and upcoming storylines.

That being said, we want to preserve some discovery for players who haven't experienced it yet, so the rules about discussing magick and psionics are still active.  Not everybody is on the same game experience as everyone else, so we want to continue to keep some mystery for the unexperienced.

Longest played and so much fun.  Went from a filthy burglar in Nak to part of the Garrison during a time when it was very active and full of some amazing folks.   She wound up being the ranking member of the Garrison before the attack by Allanak.  Think I had half the known world in my head telling me what I should do.

Got a last minute offer from a Northern military leader who told me that if I'd bring him several bricks of war spice, he would grant me a safe place to ride out the storm. Took that offer - and never has my RL heart beat as fast and hard as making that trip.

At the end of her life she was employed by the Guild, Kadius and had a side deal with a noble of Rennik.

Died to a combination of a glitch in crim code and my own stupidity.  But boy was she a lot of fun.

If I'm not mistaken, my personal longest PLAYED was a Laborer/Physician named Azhdaha who made it to rank Private in His Arm. Never even aged one year in-game, but I spent nearly 20 consecutive IRL days playing him during a time I was unemployed and basically living more on Zalanthas than I was on Earth. Will never forget hearing word later on after his death to a mekillot (back in 2022) that a templar attending his service recited words from a song he'd once sung to the robe while playing his dulcimer. Made up those lyrics on the spot, was pretty proud of 'em.

These are the ones over 50 days played, -3 I don't wanna share, yet.

Danu - Stored - Human, merchant, 188+ days played.  Advisor Danu of Kurac.  Saw some shit.  This was before the time balance was adjusted.  Back then, one week was one month game-time, three weeks was a year.  Danu moved from being a worthless cast-off of the Larati tribe to a powerful, decrepit, politically terrifying corrupt grandfather in the over four decades of game time he was about.  Mentored several famous PCs including Half-Ear (Shatuka) and others.

Synoru - Stored - Lady Syn of Tenneshi.  Six RL months of agony.  My staff member was also playing, as her personal avatar, the head of the Lirathran Order in Tuluk.  She just wasn't interested in my PC so I got nowhere.  59 days played.

Vankolith - Dead, Warrior- Lieutenant Vanko of the Amber Wyverns.  Bastard Borsail, Hero and casualty of the Copper Wars.  86 days played.  Murdered by Tuluki forces: 247 to 1.  ("n;e;e;Order all kill Vanko").

Voresh – Dead – A tribal named Vo.  Groot.  Warrior/Nomad.  Liked the ladies.  And the men.  83 days played.  Bit it to 16 hidden tarantula.

Sneekeetoof – Dead.  Sunrunner. Warrior/scavenger.  Prancing Kalan.  Shattered Drum.  Sneakytooth.  152 days played.  Rantarri'd.

Kahuja – Dead – Died in Hall of the Ancients. (SHORTEST)

Maheejo – Dead.  Heejo. "Smiley". Alley rat.  Byn Sergeant.  Circus Co-Founder.  Atrium failure.  Borsail Slave.  Dark Moon Co-Founder.  161 days played.  Warrior/Slipknife.  PC murdered.

**** - Dead - Atuna Baja - Slave to the Murder Owl.  Tribal.  63 days played.  "Someone forces you to move east.  You scramble for purchase, you scramble for purchase, you scramble for purchase, you scramble for purchase, you land on your neck... "  Thanks, Someone.

Still on Break.

Stood 4 cords, 5 inches tall. Weighed 7 ten-stone.
Miscreant / Master_Tailor
Born in Labyrinth, started play in Labyrinth.
Played for 25 days, 2 hours, 17 minutes.

First part of House Kurac as an apprentice sandcloth crafter, conspired to have her Dealer executed when he told her she was nothing more to him than just some rinthi crafter (because she treated him like family, I think Aromit told me "hell hath no fury" in response to my report about all that going on). Become a blue, and eventually green rag of the Guild under the name "Seelie." Left Kurac, joined Kadius for almost a year before murdering Lamrale. Became a member of the Guild full-time instead of a double-agent, took the hit on Lamrale for her murder, eventually died trying to protect her Boss' back (Cards the Mul) from Tyr in the turf war of early 2022. Went out together.

She was a little emotionally unstable, but ultimately very fun character that got me thoroughly hooked into the game. What a way to lose my first PC that lived longer than 1 and 1/2 ooc weeks, after such an entertaining story.

Sergeant Laila Makarim of the Arm of the Dragon, played 80 days / aged 7 years / 1 RL year. She was the aide to Red Robe Samos Rennik as well as a soldier.

Samira AKA Sukra of the Tan Muark, played 34 days / aged 3 years. Before the volcano dropped on the TM.

Just to clarify here -- Players/PCs will absolutely have an impact on new and upcoming storylines. I think what Talos meant to say is any active plots those PCs would have been a part of will have come to an end with the closing of a Season, so the impact of divulging secrets/motivations/stories will have far less of an impact than it did during our endless Sandbox Model.

My longest was Wyeth, AKA Brand, a Borsail Wyvern and later aide and advisor.  He started at 21 and I played him until he was 71, at which point he couldn't wield a sword or wear his armor.  At that point in the game it was getting hard to find anyone to sit and talk to, and there wasn't a lot else he could do anymore, so I asked staff to come up with a good way to end him.  I made a couple of suggestions but I don't actually know what finally happened.  I'd like to!  (Played for 261 days, 17 hours, 49 minutes.)

I had a lot of fun with Brand, got into a lot of plots.  He used to keep a proud score of the nobles he'd killed, helped kill, or helped destroy the careers of, but I don't remember the number exactly.  Think it was double digits though.  All of those plots were the work of more creative people, and I am grateful to all the players of the templars and Borsail nobles who thought them up!  He had a lot of good friends through his years, and he tried to tell their stories to anyone who would listen.

I disagreed with a lot of the stat falloffs, but when I provided real life examples of people who were not that bad off, staff pointed out that those people had probably not been close to death as often as Brand had.  I had to agree he had a pretty battered body.  His nobles gave him a lot of spice to keep him going as long as he did, and he had a writ from the templars allowing him to have it on him, so we had some roleplay around it.  It was sad the day he couldn't wield his sword though.  Broke his heart and mine too.

Her skin is pale and largely void of scars.  Her hair falls to the middle of
her back, a rich, vivid silver in color with a single streak of black
settled over each ear, the tousled locks an elegant mix of waves, curls, and
straight locks.  Her chin is pointed, jutting out a little in a defiant,
almost arrogant fashion, her mouth, a roseate pinkish hue, is naturally
shaped into a fitful, petulant downturn at either end.  Her eyes are a pale
silver-grey hue and fringed with thick dark lashes, overhung with thin,
arched brows.  Moving from one inch wide at the bottom to five inches at the
top, five horizontally pierced bone studs form a row up her chest, from just
above her heart to just below her delicately defined clavicles.  Almost as
though to highlight the overly delicate nature of her features, bone studs
have been pulled through several places on her face.  Her left nostril,
lower lip, two through her right eyebrow, two through her tongue.  Shards of
bone forming five piercings up the lobe of each ear, and the tragus of each
of her ears is also pierced twice, in addition to a single shard pulled
horizontally through the skin of the bridge of her nose between her eyes.

convenient for her was raised in Menos, the only child of farmers.  It was
when she was found sleeping one night, redacted
that she was packed up - to be sent off to Allanak.  Unfortunately, however,
things did not go as planned.  She herself doesn't remember it, but what
happened was her redacteding away.  She came to, just outside of Luir's
outpost, suddenly filled with dread at her own realization.  At only six
years old, she was left with a rather remarkable problem on her hands, and
nothing but fear in any direction she might turn.  It was there, however,
that she'd spend much of her life - until she was about twenty.  It was then
that she remanifested, purely on accident, of course - accidentally
doing redacted in her own self-defense during a barfight in the
tavern.  Of course, her antics resulted in another redacteding in order to
avoid being killed where she stood.  Of course, it was rumor of that very
incident which drew the attention of the master whiran to her, his own form
nearly perfected, his body slowly changing further and further to
'perfection'.  It was, in fact, after several years of study, exposure to
redacted, redacted, and eventually of various redacted, she found herself
alone - Kutai had finally left the world behind to live in Redacted.
Unsure what to do with herself, she's moved on, travelling to Allanak
to live as a grebber and hopefully hide her true nature.  Deeply social,
she moved immediately from her brief stints in Cenyr and Red Storm.
And now, there's nothing but to hope her gifts don't cost her her freedom
and all she works to build.

She started out in Allanak and wound up joining Kurac for a bit and then got into a shit load of shenanigans. More around Luirs and the Pah than elsewhere. She started with silver streaks in her black hair and ended with black streaks in her silver hair. Cantrip + premature greying.

1. They Who Shall Not Be Named (2010) - 43 days. No seriously, they're my worst PC. They're also the perfect manifestation of my ultimate cringe days. I don't know what I was thinking. If I could go back in time and shoot myself, I would.

2. Nori (2014 - 2015) - 51 days, 16 hours. Still cringe, I'd like to think she's a little less cringe than all my cringier PCs before. She was one of my faves only because of the circumstances she was pulled into during Tuluki closure. She was Levy Elder, Sun Legion Sergeant, Aide to Faithful Lord Hederai, turned terrorist. Had a kill list. Managed to kill off a few before her untimely death. Under orders, she was made to throw people (and VNPCs included) in jail for the Faithfuls. She died a disappointing death. I am sorry for everyone she disappointed with her lame death. I had such a blast playing her. Thank you to all the staff and players who made this memorable for me.

3. Quen (2015 - 2016) - 57 days, 16 hours. Made her because my previous character died to another player (a good death), and I needed a throwaway to feel better. Ended up becoming Byn Sergeant for 6 RL months. Died to a Kuraci contract involving a lot of mantis. She was a pickpocket/outlaw, so it's a wonder how she lasted that long. There was this Borsail noble who kept trying to hire the Byn to do the most ridiculous and death-inducing contracts (like take over the Mul Outpost), and she kept deflecting. She insulted a lot of people, and ran her mouth a lot. Like a lot. I'm surprised no one tried to actively kill her.

5. Glass (2022) - 37 days, 20 hours. Yeah, she's done... stuff. And also survived stuff. There is a lot of stuff happening with Glass.

Other favorites that didn't last too long:

Amun-da, Kuraci Dealer, 14 days 9 hours, 2019 - 2020.
Emerisa, Aided for Lord Templar Sahtuk, 18 days 16 hours, 2019
Mish'kai (Mishka), some whiran hermit person thing, 26 days 15 hours, 2018
Menelli (Kasima/Kaz), crazy eastsider viv witch, 6 days 11 hours, 2017 - 2018
Kemora, Salarri Steel Guard Captain later first Garrison Captain, 11 days 23 hours, 2017
Lyre, Red Fang, 12 days, 2009

Assuming memory is serving me right, I believe my character delivered a couch and a sealed note to Danu. Powerful and decrepit indeed, I remember being surprised at how nonchalant they seemed as they read the note before putting it away.

Quote from: Refugee on June 11, 2024, 10:33:23 AMMy longest was Wyeth, AKA Brand, a Borsail Wyvern and later aide and advisor.

You got me hooked to the game, so thank you. That PC was fire.

According to my notes, my longest played characters have been:

Lady Ostren Oash, 71 days and 11 hours, from November 2018 to March 2019, when I stored. Amazing players in the clan, insanely fun noble culture, great staff.

Lady Rusimell "Ru" Fale/Oash, 54 days and 17 hours, from August 2014 to August 2015, when I stored because of needing an RL break and feeling rather betrayed by my clan staff after a staffing change. The amazing players that I played around, the fun cast and crew of nobles, and the supportive clan staff throughout again made this character.

Apparently, I have a type. j/k these were insanely different characters, one exceptionally outgoing and bubbly and the other a very serious and reserved scholar, but looking through my list, all of my longest-lived characters have been sponsored roles and family role-calls.

Sorry not sorry Ostren corrupted a Borsail Lord with their shared love of books. I bet that one burned Brand's poor soul.

Wasn't he decrepit enough at that point that he was passing out regularly from using the Way? Fell off a mount during a race in the desert for one of the festivals? Or am I thinking of the wrong character.

It really did hurt Brand badly that you corrupted his lord!  About being decrepit, he would always try any game or competition that came up and kept doing that until he really shouldn't have been.  And there was a point he couldn't way hardly at all without passing out.

I remember that race now.  He didn't fall off.  The harness on the two creatures drawing the chariot, or whatever it was (were they raptors?), broke and they began attacking him near the Nak gate.

If I'd had time to think, he would've stayed to fight.  It would've been a glorious way to end him, and I'd been looking for one.  But my instincts took over and he went into the gate.  Then I took him back out after I had a moment to think, but the Byn or the Arm or someone showed up to rescue him.

Don't know anything about Luci being in on it, but Brand wanted to do it but he couldn't afford it, so the female aide to a templar, who also was angry at Puppy, helped him with the money.

Brand drove Puppy nuts though with his constant need for her to express how much she loved him and listen to him go on about how much he loved her. Heejo was a great friend, and she was glad to be able to vent her annoyances to him. Eventually though Brand was just too much drama, and there was that one time when he had come back to the apartment covered head to toe in blood from the arena. He thought this would be a turn-on to the pristine, perfectly groomed, noble-housed Fale bastard, and she thought he was disgusting like that, and even moreso that he thought she'd be turned on by a man covered in blood and gore and filth. So she sent him packing. Even after that - it took awhile before she started having "romantic" feelings toward Heejo. Brand was convinced they were already shacking up but the truth is, Brand basically drove her into Heejo's arms with all that emo.

Things went downhill from there and she ended up being very good at pissing other people off.

Thanks for the warm vibes and quotes which made me see this thread again and gave me a grin.

Checking in every month or so.

My most recent long lived character (and my last character) was a northern breed Byn Sargeant named Krick if anyone enjoyed him.

I really enjoyed interacting with all the fun PCs in the north in that time as the common as dirt breed carved a place socially for himself and his family, and the crudeness of Krick was always fun for me considering the fairly lofty heights and friendship/connections he made through hard work and competence.

For me he was probably one of the more realistic PCs I have played, personality and goals wise. Mostly just wanting to watch his child grow up and have an easier and better life than he did while doing his part. Dad vibes.

Anyway hope someone else enjoyed him! And hope those that are playing are having fun with the game.
