Oh, hell yes.
Yes! Time to die! :o
Totally, totally time to die.
I work until 3, and then have uber crappy laptop from 2003 that like to bluescreen me until Monday evening around 5. ~sniffle~
I don't see BAG killing us all.... He's nice.... Right?
Hmm, my role I'm in now is probably not going to be affected by this at all, but I still probably going to call off sick that day.
Oh god I'm doomed. :-/
Whatever it is, I want IN!
The day before Pearl Harbor day. :( Fuuuuuuuuck we're dead.
Date set.
December 5th. Go to Rent-a-center and rent a laptop for a week. I'll probalby not be involved in this one.
I look forward to killing as many of you as possible.
Quote from: CavaticusHello mortals. After a hiatus I am back. Brainz-eating will commence shortly.
Well, crap. Who knew it'd take Cavaticus to get things rolling?
If the world ends on December 6th, I'll be slightly annoyed because - Despite finally getting some karma, I've not had a chance to play more then ONE karma-required class.

Your chances will probably be much better if the world does end, because supposedly karma restrictions won't be in place during the initial phase of 2.Arm.
Of course, I'd bet more money on the second soming of Christ occurring on Dec. 6th, and I'm an atheist.
No, the world is going to end on December 21, 2012. Everyone knows that. Zalanthas, that is.
This... is probably worse.
I look forward to it.
We promised not to end the world without telling you in advance. We'll try and keep that promise.
And if you're afraid of anyone it should be Shabago. Very afraid.
Shabago's a big weenie.
So is Cavaticus.
So is Shaloooooooooonsh.
AND so is Adhira!
Yeah, I've got a dress for dyin' in already picked out.
oh em gee
... Well ... GImf is definately dying soon.
I'm looking forward to my first mass killing. Unless I can get my hands on some poor Byn unit before hand... my hand will be clean until then. Well, maybe. This shall be fun!
Muahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

This is gonna be fun.
Did I mention that I've never yet lost a PC in an RPT? I didn't? Well, I haven't. I think we can all agree it's high time.
P.S. Ath and Oleupata = also super big weenies.
.... I have a final-fucking-exam on that day.
Please tell me it's starting later in the evening.
Good thing I have a few extra character concepts on hand.
I'm so looking forward to this, and I have no clue what's going on. Blood for the blood god, Ginka! Yarrrgh!
Oleupata frightens me more every day.
I get the feeling that, similar to the last Sunday RPT, I'm going to get screwed out of it. Maybe I'll take that day off of work specifically. =)
Wouldn't this be a good time to purchase a cozy, convenient tent, just in case your home is consumed by templars and lava? Yes, yes, it would.

No one gets screwed -out- of an HRPT.
They only get screwed -in- one!
But seriously...its hard not to get involved unless you're hiding far far away from a population center.
Well the big thing is, I actually work on Sundays. The last RPT happened on a sunday, and I wasn't able to attend because of my work schedule. But then, can't change things for one man.
Gazing across the burning plain, mounting a hastily erected barricade, with an obsidian-toothed bone sword in hand, the scarred, tattooed warrior recites in viking-accented sirihish,
"Lo! There do I see my father.
"Lo! There do I see my mother, my sisters, and my brothers.
"Lo! There do I see the line of my people back to the beginning.
"Lo! They do call to me.
"They bid me to take my place among them, in the halls Valhalla,
"Where the brave may live forever."
Hey guys. I just realized that it wouldn't be fair if you were to die without your consent, so if you DON'T want to die in the HRPT:
1) Send me an email letting me know that you don't want to die. Include:
a) Your account name.
b) Your character name.
c) Where your character spends most of their time.
d) Any fears your character may have.
2) Make sure you log on nice and early the day of the RPT. Then wish up the following:
a) "Hello, this is (account name). I am ready to not be killed by a mekillot/bahamut/silt horror/herd of rabid gwoshi* now."
b) Enjoy the HRPT!
*The creature(s) that you will not be killed by will depend on your character's location at the time of the wish.
This... sounds great.
An HRPT. It's been a good long, long time.
I've got some character growth to do until then. :)

Inside the Gates of House Borsail [NSW]
From this vantage point the magnificent Borsail estate stretches out in all
directions, protected from intruders by the tall outer wall which encircles
the property. There's a lot of other cool stuff here that only PCs would
have seen, so they've been edited out and stuff.
You think:
"Yeah, I'll totally be safe here."
Nyr's log doesn't show the six invisible staffers who are standing there laughing and calling dibs on that noble's various body parts.
Is this the HRPT where you re-introduce Mortalslayer?!?!?!?!?

Oh, I'm so looking forward to this. I have no clue what staff is planning but I so want this character's death to be as cool as the rest of her life. After all, we all have to go sometime. Better to brainzeating imms on an HRPT than to some NPC creature.
I hope I get time for a warcry before getting kanked.

Just walk up to the resident F-me character and say, "(CREATURES) are attacking, we might not get another chance, take your pants off and bend over!"
The last time I was involved in an HRPT was the copper war.
Are you still unable to, "order followers kill PC" ?
The major change made to NPCs after the Copper War was to make it so that units cannot attack individual PCs. Since then, the sort of insta-ganking that happened during that series of encounters has not been seen in RPTs. (However, we have also not had a major PCs with NPCs versus PCs with NPCs fight, either--all RPTs have been PCs with NPCs versus NPCs.)
It's possible to order some types of unit NPCs to attack PCs, in my experience. It is extremely frowned down upon and discouraged by the staff, as it should be.

http://www.zalanthas.org/gdb/index.php/topic,20877.0.html
That is probably a bug, then, because the original staff announcement about the coded change seems pretty clear that this would apply to all units. If you know of particular units which are still able to do this, or certain circumstances which allow it, you might want to write to Morg about it.
It kind of makes units irrelevant then, doesn't it? In terms of generating outcomes.
They're just for show.
My suggestion would be for units to consist of a given number of soldiers. If ordered to attack an individual, a soldier is split off from the unit and a one-on-one battle starts. As units take damage, they diminish in numbers of soldiers. They could also be reconstituted, with NPC soldiers being ordered to join a unit. Templars could divide and build units as suits them.
Likewise, if a PC attacks a unit, one soldier is split off for a one-on-one battle. Rather than having a PC engage (and disarm :D) an entire unit at a time.
That sounds like it might be complicated to code, but it also sounds really kick ass.
On a sidenote:
I won't be attending the HRPT. Jerks. It's on -both- my mom -and- my sister's birthday. :(
Can't wait to see what comes of it, though.
Outcomes are never actually determined by NPCs, they are determined by PCs. What the change did is take away the ability for a single PC to determine the outcome of a full battle.
PCs can still engage units in combat, they just have to attack first. I've seen this happen often in RPTs (and done it myself); it's not necessarily fatal for the leader PCs who do it, who are usually the most badass of the warriors. Rather, it prevents units from being thrown at the defensively weakest of PCs--such as the mages, who often got insta-ganked during the Copper War.
Time to stock up on heal potions and recall scrolls.
Oh wait...
I can't make it. Darn.

Even for the '1337 warriors, I'd be very wary of units and other NPCs coded to assist the unit you're attacking. Guard is always safe. Assist is always safe. But I guess said warriors already know this. ;)
Someone's gotta lead the way, baby! And I couldn't let the Byn have all the fun ;) But yeah, like brytta says, caution is generally necessary.
Also, units can and will attack other units.

Or at least until a newbie warrior is rolled into the world to kill the 10-day burglar. :D
Or the burglar is trying to travel across the wastes and accidentally runs into a hostile 0-day ranger who spent their starting 'sid on a mount and a weapon.
Psh, there are no 0-day rangers out in the wastes. They're all rogue 'gickers in "disguise."
To the east, a male voice shouts, in sirihish,
"Burn her! We've found a witch! We've found a witch! A witch! A witch! A witch!"
An angry horde of people has arrived from the east, dragging the weathered, silt-toned lass.
An angry horde of people asks the burly, war-braided templar, politely, in sirihish,
"We have found a witch. May we burn her?"
The burly, war-braided templar looks at the weathered, silt-toned lass.
The burly, war-braided templar says, in sirihish,
"Quiet! Quiet! Quiet! Quiet! There are ways of telling whether she is a witch."
The weathered, silt-toned lass exclaims, desperately, in sirihish,
"I can ride th' storms! Lord Templar!"
Nonplussed, an angry horde of people looks at the weathered, silt-toned lass.
An angry horde of people exclaims, with an air of sudden inspiration, in sirihish,
"Caravan guidin' witch!"

Same, but that was my fault for not being around. Man, I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be there, but ultimately, finding a job ASAP is more important to me right now.
I absolutely HAVE to ask for next sunday off tomorrow. If I don't make this RPT I'll probably die.
There has only been one HRPT since the Copper War in 2006--in 2007, the gith invasion of Allanak. So it's not like you've missed scads of them :)

This is actually the first HRPT since I started playing. I remember for the my first characters, I would be writing "parents died in the Copper War" in their backgrounds and the established PC's I was interacting with still had recent memories of the gith invasion.

I'm SO gonna be there!! This'll be my second or third ever HRPT that I've made it to, and I've been playing for almost 8 years now. Needless to say, I'm a bit stoked. I died in my first (battle of Luirs), survived the second (Gith Invasion). Who knows what'll happen this time

Safe places are the first to get drowned in lava, sacked by mantis/gith/rebels/bad stuff(tm) or buried under tons of rubble in HRPTs. So watch out you tavern idlers!
An HRPT is a glorious thing because when it's all over, you have no idea if things will ever be the same again. The most exciting thing about Armageddon is that things can actually change.

A Rubble-Strewn Room [NS Save]
It appears this room was once a storeroom of some sort, though its
many shelves have been toppled and mostly destroyed. A gaping hole
leads northward where a solid brick wall used to be. The entire area is
covered in dust, gravel, and stray bits of brick, and the pervasive scent
of BLOODY DEATH clings to the remaining wreckage.

A suggestion, in case staff bothers to look at this thread again:
A very cool thing that was done during the Copper War was the IC snippets posted by Halaster as the action was ongoing. If there is going to be a lot of action during the day of this HRPT on the 6th, in lots of places, perhaps snippets might be posted to an ongoing update thread. Along the lines of: "People throughout the world felt the earthquake blah blah blah, rumors say perhaps..." or "People in Tuluk would have seen flying through the air..."
Of course it would necessarily be very general and vague, but enough to give those logging on late, or those who have to leave early, some kind of in-the-moment connection. (It sucks being the guy who logs on at 5 pm and has to claim he happened to sleep through Major Thing That Just Happened. brytta, I'm looking at you ;) )

Hey Publicity Coordinators - what would be a good way of advertising the upcoming HRPT to the masses? I think big world-changing events are a great time to attract new players to the mud.
Perhaps a teaser poster and thrilling tagline are in order.
We should all have this song synchronized to start at a time to be appointed by staff:

I agree. Other MUDs have been known to put up postings on MUD listing sites to inform potential new players about upcoming events, and how they can start playing. I bet we could get a few new players interested in this.
The times make me happy :D
I think the best time to try attracting new players is...a few weeks -before- an HRPT, or a few weeks after it. Otherwise, you end up with this:
Sergeant says, to the 4 other PCs, while 2 templars, 2 nobles, and 4 nobles' aides, a troop of PC bynners, and random commoners stand at the Gaj, in war-accented sirihish,
"A'right then, let's all get to the stables and mount up! WE ARE GOING TO WAR!!!111"
The noob-booted man has arrived from the south.
The noob-booted man says, in noob-accented sirihish, emoting a little because he's a cute noob, "Hello, and forsooth! I am in dire need of a bootery! I beg thee kind sirs, assist me and the king's gold shall be yours!"
The players of 16 pcs collectively roll their eyes, and fight in AIM to decide which one of them gets stuck -not- participating in the HRPT so he can help the noob.
While all this is occurring,
The noob-booted woman has arrived from the south, her pale buxom boobed curvy body and glossy waist-length raven ebony tresses swinging in tandem.
In sultry-accented sirihish, but lacking emotes because she's not a cute noob, the noob booted woman says, "Oh my is this my surprise party?" She giggles girlishly, blushes coyly, does a few other things in a few other adverbly ways, then stands there waiting for all the mens to offer mudsex.
The players of 16 pcs collectively roll their eyes. Some fight in AIM to decide which of them gets stuck -not- participating in the HRPT so he can help the noob. At least 2 of them consider doing it on purpose, just for the mudsex.

By advertising the HRPT on, say, TMS forums, you're advertising to players that know what an RPI MUD is, know what's expected of players in an RPI, and know if that's something they can do. We'll likely grab players from other RPI MUDs, or roleplay-required non-permadeath muds, since those players will be more used to roleplaying in a given setting.
We'll most likely not get what you fear.

I vote Cutthroat to be the official Noob-Greeter on the day of the HRPT. He shall be transported to the remote outerlying regions of the silt sea, on his very own island. All noobs will enter the game on that island. Upon entry, Cutthroat will welcome them warmly, using a script written by LoD and edited for brevity by Mansa. They shall get an official tour of the island, including the beat up old airplane propeller and the half-sunk 3-hour-tourboat.
Cookies made from locally-grown coconut cream and grain from the swamp will be provided along with fermented fruit-juice of random variety of plant substances, for our guests. Using these delightful props, they will be taught the intricacies of eating and drinking emotes, and the ettiquette of not spam-eating when one is starving.
Upon completion of their noob tour, and following any pertinent or impertinent question and answer segments, the noobs will be given a bone dagger, a new pair of boots, a hooded ebony cloak, and a pair of non-descript leather sleeves. They will then have the opportunity to point at a location on the map and be transported to that location.

I realize your comment is tongue-in-cheek, but I'll say it anyway: I don't mind helping out new players. All helpers like to do it, and most other players too. I don't think an influx of new players during the HRPT would be a hindrance to anyone. I really don't get what the problem will be with having new players join on the day of the HRPT, as opposed to any other day the game is run.

Seriously. I think a lot of folks are actually in favor of new players joining the game, rather than rolling their eyes and chatting over AIM about things currently happening in the game even though that's the biggest no no the MUD has short of hacking into the codebase.

I found Liz's scenario to be a bit entertaining....
It doesn't affect me one way or another, as I'm not playing a character with any measure of responsibility. But if the bad guys are en masse to my particular location the moment a new player shows up asking where he can buy food, it'll put me in an awkward situation. Do I continue with the plotline that this new player is completely oblivious to, pretend there isn't some poor clueless new player's character standing in front of me in dire need of assistance, and get my ass out of Dodge before the bad guys eat my brainz? OR - do I risk losing a character I enjoy playing, to explain to the new player that there's a BIG DEAL GOING ON RIGHT NOW and a 3-piece extra crispy will come hurling through the sky to him in a few minutes if he just stands still and holds his arms out?
I mean, it's one thing if it happens, simply because new players show up at the wonkiest moments. It's another thing to -encourage- new players to show up at the wonkiest moments. I am vehemently against encouraging new players to show up standing in the way of the fan, while the shit is trying valiantly to hit it.

I'm glad you feel so strongly about this, even though the opinion differs from mine. I'm just a little curious, if your opinion truly is what you state it is, why there isn't a single ad on TMS or TMC letting everyone know that this is the perfect time to get an Armageddon account. Or are you waiting til HRPT day to post it?
No, I don't feel strongly at all, I was just asking. Or you could ignore them and they will stand baffled witnessing all sorts of weird shit which will hook them up. And they will make a new char immediately thinking that this sort of things happen all the time.

Because preferably the idea needs to be approved by the staff and players that handle publicity.
And it costs money.
I was talking about posting an ad on their forums, in the "Advertise for Players" category. You don't have to pay for it. You just have to be a member for posting privileges.
I thought that was what you all were saying you wanted to do. Are you telling me you don't even know how, or that it's even possible? Well never mind then. I have no concerns at all. Carry on, and neato that you feel it'd be great if somehow, new players could show up on the day of the HRPT. If feeling that way makes you feel good, then by all means, keep feeling it. My apologies if I spoiled your mood.
Oh and no, posting on someone else's forum doesn't require Armageddon staff's approval. I don't know where you got that idea. If I wanted to post a review on Mudconnector, why would I have to ask the Armageddon staff's permission? There's no rule, it isn't even a matter of good netiquette, or even courtesy. Reviewers don't ask permission from game owners, to review games. They just review them.

It's a publicity effort - therefore publicity should be handling it, thinking of something cool to write, etc. I'm not a part of the publicity team, I was just putting forth an idea. I know how to post in a forum ::), and I know that it's possible. But it's not my responsibility to actually make the post, and I'd be stepping in front of people that can write a better pitch (the publicity team). A review is very different from a call for players.
I've said what I have left to say on this subject, and put in a Publicity -> Idea request, like we're supposed to. So let's stop the bickering. Either using the HRPT to attract new players is a good idea, or it's not - you seem to think it isn't, I think it is. Let's see how the publicity people feel. And if it's too late for this HRPT, then maybe next time.
This thread used to be such a happy place.
This will be my first HRPT.
HUH? It's not a publicity effort. It's an HRPT. See, this thread, it's about the HRPT coming up. Someone else came up with the idea that they should mix publicity, with an HRPT. Shit, this is starting to sound more and more like a commercial enterprise than a fun game.
It was a happy place, before y'all started trying to turn an HRPT into a revenue-building opportunity (and in a game that has no revenue, that's pretty pathetic).
Come on now, guys. There's no need to get unpleasant with each other over this. Why not just allow the matter to drop, and whatever happens, happens?
Having said that, I'm also looking forward to the HRPT! I can't begin to guess what it'll be about, which I suppose makes it twice as fun. Something eager to devour my character, no doubt.
Lizzie? Who the hell said anything about revenue? Someone came along and said: Why not mention this somewhere and see if it draws in any new players? Some of us like new players. Some of us like fresh blood in the game, and some of us don't consider newbies (which we all were at one point or another) a horrible inconvienance meant to be avoided.
Pathetic? For wanting more new players in the game and seeing a great way we could grab some? lol, now I definitely know I'm done with this thread.
Enjoy the HRPT, guys and gals!
Yeah, you're right Cutthroat, I'm done with it too.
If there is gonna be advertisement, you should certainly do it now. A deadline of Saturday night would give a week's notice. Is there a Zalanthan Achievement unlockable for losing more than 1 PC in the same HRPT non-intentionally?
However loses the most PC's during the weekend span of the HRPT in such a manner should be awarded a special GDB Tag like "0 day lifespan" or "Immortal Fodder".

Music recommendation for the HRPT, a pair of tracks from the Lord of the Rings movies soundtracks:
"Flight to the Ford" from Fellowship, and "The Battle of the Hornburg" from Two Towers. Played in that order. Over and over.
Or maybe that will just be my PC.
I'll stick with my Three Days Grace"Riot" and "Getting Away With Murder" by Papa Roach those are my HRPT songs. :D
I will be listening to the Akira soundtrack when I kill hug you. It is my choice for murderous snuggling accompaniment.
I gotta go with Lamb of God or Tupac.
I'll just play my own HRPT music, and have it change as the mood of the game changes....
As I mentioned in another thread,
I'll just be looping Barry Manilow, Could it be magic.

HRPT player count guesses: GO!
115
One ... MILLION!
OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
92
99. I haven't been to an HRPT yet, but I like the number 99.
I'll still hope for more, though. As many as possible!
It will start high, and end low.
The opposite for our blood pressures.
We will start sober, and end drunk.
96
I am guessing 110-120.
Last HRPT hit well over 200, if I remember correctly. I'm going bet 200, on the assumption that lapsed players will show up for the fireworks, at least for a couple hours.

Nah, it didn't. I monitored the player count during, it was up in the 110 to 120 range, IIRC.
All the ones I have been in have been about 120 at the start and like 105 at the end ;). I think I've seen up to 129ish though.
I'm going to be optimistic and say 150. Seems a lot of older players have been coming back. And this is a great time to be a n00b in Armageddon. :)

Scary happens when scary is needed. Zalanthas isn't a horror game, sometimes things are meant to be scary.
Killing happens often, when it's reasonable. Killing for killing's sake may seem entertaining at first, but it gets old, we can actually kill with discretion and not stupidity.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON! I hope to hear that cry in the distance as I'm playing during the HRPT.

Following up on what Adhira said: As much as I do like to joke around about how scary the staff are and how much they like to kill us, the truth is that staff have rules and responsibilities and judgment that guides them in stuff like this. And I, for one, having been involved in many intensely scary things happening in ARM, very much appreciate it.
Sometimes players get kind of paranoid about "what staff might do," and I just think it's not necessary at all. Yes, they will provide realistic IC consequences...but...that's what they're supposed to do, reinforce the "harsh" of the world. But they're not out to get us, and overall I trust that they really want us to have fun. And they know that having fun doesn't
always mean losing the PC.
I know if I lose my PC in the HRPT it won't actually be because some staff member targeted me for elimination, or was completely indiscriminate and went wild with killing. If it happens, it will be because the current conditions were just angled that direction, and/or I was stupid.
Same here. Though I've never died in an HRPT, so I'm sort of looking forward to it whatever happens. Though if I survive whatever it is, it would be just as entertaining to me.
Still...
C'mon Imms. You know you want to eat my character's brainz! :D
This is my first HRPT. Maybe I'll die a good death. ;D If I survive, well, that's okay too. But I'm open for a good death! *eye shift*

Any difference if you have a city or a wilderness PC? Clanned or unclanned?
Show me the action!
I didn't see much during the Copper War as an unclanned city PC...
From past and current experience with HRPTs, I would highly recommend playing a clanned city PC if you are interested in being involved, and specifically any of the clans that offer organized combat roles (Legions/Tuluki noble houses, AoD/Borsail/Oash/Tor). I think you can't go wrong with that. The merchant houses were also involved in the gith invasion, in an organized manner. However, it is also possible that playing a clanned wilderness role (DEs or human tribals) would work; I really don't know.
Though on the day of the HRPT, there may be lots of opportunity to just throw yourself into whatever is happening, too; that was definitely true during the gith invasion.
I've been involved in a HRPT as a gith.
Only because of the kindness of whatever faceless immortal that let me know where I should go IC'ly, though.

Being the Red Shirt is a sort of honorable role. Someone has to be the one who dies, forcing the rest of his/her clan to react and kicking off all kinds of events!
I would just like to correct for the record, especially since Gimf keeps bringing it up -
The "gith invasion" of Allanak was not an HRPT. It was just an RPT. The last HRPT was the Copper War.
Continue.

It was a staff-announced "major southlands RPT" that ended up on the history page, and there were over 100 players online for it.

Actually, I believe the 'HRPT Update' thread in the Staff Announcements forum is intended to be updated throughout the day with things that your character would most likely know about upon entering the game world, so you can mesh right into the situation a bit more seamlessly. That way, you don't have to ask what the trillions of small furry creatures are flooding the streets of the city, you will KNOW that they are tribbles that escaped from a starship that seem to breed at an uncontrollable rate.
I know, but it's not the same... I am always the last to hear things. Well, it's hard not o when you're dead most of the time, but I am very spry at the moment.

Actually in my dream, I was spying on a Jihaen who was instructing a 'rinther on how to mine obsidian on top of the shield wall. He scanned and saw me, I ran, and then I god kersploded.

LIGHTS PLEASE!
What exactly does this mean?
I died a little bit before this happened but I saw the world echoes when I went to app a new char.
So what does rain really mean for Zalanthas?
Means im not buying WAWA no more ;D
What you would know if you were in contact with any other person in the known world:
- The world trembled and groaned, it seemed as if the very earth was in pain.
- A large shape crossed the sky, a huge shadow that was tinged with light at it's edges as it moved towards Suk-Krath, Lirathu and Jihae.
- The world shuddered and went dark. Silence reigned supreme for a short time.
- In the darkness moisture fell. Small droplets fell to the world below, rain came to the Known World.
- The Allanaki Senate is holding an emergency meeting in order to solve the water crisis. Some senators are proposing a bailout plan for the plunging water merchants.

That's exactly what happens to me and my body after a night of drinking.
In the same exact order.
The crooked-backed, pale woman stumbles aimlessly down the street, her gaze a vacant stare.
-In the streets, the commoner enjoyed a first...a bath. Oops, forgot the soap.-
This is awesome.
I'll admit when I first saw
'A faint pattering sound can be heard from outside.'
When I was huddled inside a building hiding, I thought it was a grue come to eat me.
*cough*
- After a short time, the light rain ceased.
- The world remains dark.

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I think eternal darkness would be a lot cooler if you could actually use light sources to see where you are going. As it is, the weather code is really preventing that - at least in Allanak. It'd be great to be able to see room descriptions during this time of chaos, even if it is only by lantern light.
The Weather Code: Making this game extremely inconvenient for over a decade!

Agreed.
Not to mention what a new player might think of the situation should they log into it and find themselves unable to see anything outside of the Gaj no matter what. Is "realism" really so important that we risk driving away potential new players during these Crazy Times with an ancient code that does absolutely nothing to assist playability?
I'm sorry to gripe over something the staff have put so much effort into, but I really think that recent events have served to highlight a long-overlooked problem.

Word on this. I missed all of the goodies last night. Log in on GMT morning. Find no one around, and can't navigate myself because of the weather. So.. A whole Sunday planned for Armageddon sort of goes wasted if I don't stay up all night for the HRPT. (Which I will. But I am just saying.)
I logged on after all the cool things happened, but I still get that apprehensive feeling while playing the game. Kudos to the staff for working it!
Agreed. Having light sources work would make this HRPT a little better. People would be able to navigate to other people and then rp together their reactions. To have been caught out in some iso location last night and while this HRPT is going on would make the game much less enjoyable.
Personally, I can't say I've ever been a fan of the weather system myself either. However, for the purposes of this weekend, the skies should have cleared up around all the major pockets of civilization.
It's good to be a Highlord. 8)
Game on!
My light sources have been working fine...
The problem is not so much with light sources as with the winds. When the skies are dark and clear, light sources work fine. The problem is once the wind is beyond a certain strength all the sand in the air reduces visibility such that lights are ineffective in the dark, and at another point even in sunlight.
Everything so far is cool but....
Darkness? Seriously? So annoying.
On the bright side: maybe now I'll finally get to twink up that stupid blind fighting skill that never gets used.

For everyone, I would suggest adopting the mindset that your character -is- going to die. There's no way to prevent it, all you can do is delay.

Excellent work from Staff on all sides, I kind of wish I had a PC in all the major civilizations to see what was happening.

THIS GAME IS IMPOSSIBLE TO QUIT
I HATE YOU ALL
I said it once already, but damn that was good. Mass kudos for all.
That was a great HRPT. Very intense and exciting. I especially liked how the good stuff started many hours before go-time, it made for an incredible build-up and anticipation. Impressive atmosphere as always. The admin presence was as impressive as the attention to detail, nothing short of stellar. However...
Why must it be so that as soon as the truly deadly stuff starts, all hopes of real roleplay are thrown aside in favor of Armageddon's trademark code-fest?
Throughout the day, I saw people getting admin-launched missiles thrown at them faster than they could seemingly emote a reaction, forcing them to either spam-walk away or suffer unavoidable death. 30 damage pebbles are one thing, but every few seconds, on the same character over and over? X flies in from the north, x flies in from the north, x flies in from the north... if that had been a player, I would immediately have filed a strongly worded complaint.
Once the big things of doom rolled around, it was one-shot kill time. You don't even get to read their descriptions. Unarmed mobs with 50 strength, really? Wounding fist-hits to the head do not make for interesting combat. Eight such mobs in one room provides nothing but a frantic struggle to see who's fighting what, let alone attempt to emote or assess the situation. I would LOVE a few pre-combat moments to enjoy the thrill, enact the scene, and hopefully the very culmination of the entire HRPT could for the average player amount to more than -- assist tem...your vision goes black, beep.
With as much effort and perfection poured into the entire build-up, I have to wonder why the most important bit is always allowed to be a mindless, brief and indecipherable slug-fest where most people effectively have 1 hit point.

You got 24 hours of that.
Sometimes the best thing to do, is not get hit.
And might I add that using multiple GDB accounts to express the same sentiment is a tad... Cheesy?
Do you watch disaster movies, Veges?
In it, do the characters get to idle for a while and watch the freeway overpass crumble and fall towards them? No, they step on the gas and pull the car into reverse!
Sdesc is enough for you to "see" what the hell that thing is, but I don't think there is enough time for you to sit and enjoy an mdesc. You should be running the fuck outta there.

I can't agree here enough. The reality is that Armageddon will kill you, and sometimes, the things that come for you are just that deadly. And if you make a mistake, it's made. That's the thing though - you don't always know you've made a mistake until after you have made it. And that's awesome. And you don't always get to take back your mistake.
Yeh, I whined a bit earlier in this thread. Trust me, I deserve to be able to. But I accepted the way this game works a long time ago. So the '50 str mob' was part of the story.

I found myself reaching for my box of tissues, thank you, you have exhausted me like a brutal and sadistic lover and forever on I am your slave... master may I have another..
but let me rest first.
Reh reh, bleh bleh, blah blah blah.. yes thank you... (rabble rabble rabble, peas and carrots, peas and carrots)
(smirks) truely a good time, was a little disapointed when it all stopped... I think stuff like this should happen everyday. ;)
Oh and everyone who ended up cremated in Nak, don't worry I'll collect the ash piles and put them into a cask of wine and sell you for megabucks.... You will be enjoyed yet again.
Cheers all! another successful ass kicking!

ftfy!
*eye shift* <3 Seriously though, it was epic. *tips her hat*
I hate that I didn't have a character who had any interest in, or place being on the front lines of the action that went on during the HRPT. I know I missed all the fun stuff, so I really hope that some well-edited logs will be posted by players or staff at the appropriate time.
Up until the HRPT I knew some crazy shit was going to go down and it was fun to play my character who continued to plan and act as if nothing major was going down. Well, his whole world has changed. I'm sure many other PC's are going through the same thing. It's going to be fun adapting and overcoming new challenges.
I can't wait to see how things develop. I'm hoping for anarchy.... My, how fun will that be.
That rocked. As for aforementioned flaming rocks... Bring a shield next time, dummies. Or a half-giant with a really thick skull.
Oh, and, uh... Never play through an RPT on your mobile phone. Once the combat spam starts, it's like riding down a rocky hill in a Radio Flyer.
To sum up my feelings I did a Google image search for a certain word and picked the very first picture that showed up. I'm not sure it does things justice. You guys rock and it was a pleasure murdering so many of you.

Well.
I did an image search of my own:
I can't say anything about my death during the RPT. I'm a little bummed to have lost her, but that certainly wasn't staff's fault. And it sure wasn't one-shot death.
I've come to the conclusion long-lived characters do hurt more to lose. But hey, what a party. This sure will be one of the more memorable adventures I've had on Arm. I have that to comfort me, that and that I had a damn good time through pretty much all of this RPT.
Thanks again, players and staff.

And it's a pretty cool story.
Chapter 53 is done.
Turning to Chapter 54.
7DV wyns, I believe.
Great job, staff!
I didn't get into the thick of things, but I did fear for my characters life during some parts and have stories to tell.
Can't wait to have fun in the aftermath.
So this isn't a joke, because if it was it would be in terrible taste, but did anyone but me notice the startling parallels between what happened in Tuluk and hurricane Katrina?
Now it'll only be a week or so before the Faithful Emergency Manipulation Agency gets to work.

You have to be joking.
Odd urge: Make a bardic douche named Malik East who exclaims to the city how Muk Utep hates tribal people. ;D
It reminds me of some Biblical stuff. I don't remember the quotes, but I seem to remember 1/4 of the world covered with fire, 1/4 of it flooded....or something. And maybe 1/4 covered with locust.
We need more locust!
Except this is Zalanthas. If there was a plague of locusts, the people would happily just eat them.
Plague of Mantis.

Already happened. See the History page about Luir's.
I'm reading that as a challenge to outdo the Luirs Mantis Invasion. Am I reading that right?
PS: Where is your current PC spending most of its time?
Human impact on climate change hasn't been proven! Global warming is a hoax, Zalanthan weather just naturally fluctuates! I don't know what everyone is getting all worked up about.

Mantis invasions, recent RPT happenings there, other hosts of unpleasantness over the years..poor Luir's won't be around for much longer
Hmmmm... Mantis invasion, check. Gith invasion, check. Too many other possible options.
Cool, that was better than warcraft 3.
Did a whole clan of PCs get eliminated and killed from the game during the HRPT (not planned, either)
That happened with the rebellion and the restoration of Tuluk back in 2002 :).
Halaster's hrpt that killed everybody in the clan.. Hehe

And the blackmoon raiders :(
Almost all of the other clans that participated in that hrpt had their PC populations wiped out too, they were just able to rebuild.

I wonder how long it's going to take to clean the Tuluk arena.
I wonder how long it's going to take for north-folk people to not tell Southies what happened to Tuluk. ::)

Seems like a perfect-time for morale-boosting parties in your city of choice!
Heh. The scale of this one...just impressive. The cleanup is going to take weeks, rl, from the looks of where I'm at. It's going to take more than a party or two to bring up morale, I think. It's all looking just a little daunting.

That, and this (points above) is pretty much the staff's way of saying "Find out IC."
I'm so into my survivor PC right now. Damn you, school finals, damn you!
Well I mean, I just assumed if there was a New Celestial Body in the sky that was not there before, and it excited enough comment to be put on the staff HRPT announcements, then the sudden absence of this New Celestial Body would also excite comment.
But if not, that's cool too. I guess I'm just spacing out.

I'm gonna special app a minotaur.... Just to see what happens.
There were rumors of the third moon that is forever in the dark quite a while ago. I believe a scripted NPC would mention that to ... people who had access to hear about it.
When a character of mine heard it for the first time, I thought there was a third moon up there, it was just dark so we could not see it anyway.

I like the fact that this HRPT is one with lasting effects. The Copper War, while fun and all, had little lasting effects than "now X PCs are dead." Once it was over, it was more or less "back to business as usual."
Not so with this. I like that.

Indeed. I freaked when I saw this, especially:
Quote12/06/2009: 400+ rooms, 20+ objects, several NPCs/scripts created to reflect world changes -- Nyr
I still think that, based on the events that occurred, the HRPT deserves a place on the history page. The Copper Wars aside, there was a history entry from when Allanak and Borsail raided a mul outpost, and the effects of that paled in comparison.
