Inspect

I thought it might be a nice addition to have a command called "inspect" or perhaps a tweak to the command "search" that would let you more or less peek at a person.  The difference would be that its not skill based, more just a coded effect.  You would be able to inspect anyone incapacitated, with nosave on or subdued.   If they were awake, they would recieve a message akin to "so an so pats you down, inspecting your belongings" and the room would recieve a similar message.  If they did not meet the critera for success (incapacitated etc..), then the person doing the inspection would see that they get thier hands pushed away or somsuch.

You could roleplay this out by making people strip off things, or hand you their belongings.

Basically you wish to peek at a person whom is knocked out or subdued, right?

The current skill as is (peek) does not support this?

If not, then there may be need for inspect, but other than that...meh?

Well, truth be told I think this is an interesting idea... Especially keeping in mind the new Allanaki water-tax in which soldiers pat your ass down when you walk through the gates in search of water containers.

I'm not sure what kind of message would be given when someone 'pats' someone down. Perhaps a cursory list of their equiment including all items in the inventory.

Other than that I'd say you should be able to rend pieces of clothing from someone who is subdued. So instead of having person A subdued and then emoting that you tear the pack off their soldiers while OOC'ly telling them you're letting them go so they can 'remove pack' 'drop pack'.

Maybe a 'strip' command. That works similar to steal but gives a room echo of brutally tearing something from someone's body. You could do this only if they were unconscious or subdued. Perhaps it could be based on strength of the 'stripper' as well so you could get an embarassing fail. Like: The sinewy weakling tugs at your pack in vain, the seams straining but remaining firm.

As opposed to: The mighty half-giant demigod brutally rends the 'pack' from your shoulders with an explosive tearing of thread and fabric.

  Food for thought.

Two thumbs up for an 'inspect' command, though. Makes guards that much more versatile in the RP department, allowing scenes to remain smooth and unbroken with OOC.

The problem is, unlike steal, if you dont have the skill peek, you cannot use it on someone who is knocked out.
on't worry if you're a kleptomaniac, you can always take something for it.

Throw in my thumbs up for this idea and here's why:

If you want to search someone for weapons, spice, explosives or whatever you have two options.

One is to use the skill peek and see what they have.

The other is to strip them of all containers, make sure they are hiding no equipment via cloak and hope whatever you are looking for is not in their main 'inventory' and they decide to keep it secret (twinkish but I'm SURE it's happened more than once in the past decade).

The first is good for a large quarter of the mud while the rest of us have to resort to striping someone down 'just to make sure'.  Inspect would be a courtesy to the victims so long as it gives a message to everyone (to curb abuse).

And this addition wouldn't rule out the good ol' fashion strip search.  Not by a long shot since this wouldn't open containers or look in a container in a container. Yah!  :D
