Introduction:

Players may submit up to two special applications per year, no more than once a month.  A special application allows players to request to play a character that is beyond what the normal application process would provide for.  This might be any number of things.

We have further clarified what a special application is, and what you can do with it.  Here is the full list and how it works:

Categories:

Special Applications have 3 categories:  Advanced Start, Coded Advantages, and Flavor Additions.

A special application can include either:

1 coded advantage + 1 flavor addition,
or 2 flavor additions,
or Advanced Start

Advanced Start

- cannot be combined in any way with any other item from these lists
- see this GDB thread for details

Coded Advantages:

- to play one of the special application only subclasses.  Listed under the "Special Application Requirements" section from this post.  You must have the full amount of karma to play something from this list.  For example, Suk-Krath Devastation subclass requires 7 karma.  You cannot apply for a Special Application for this at 5 karma, you must have 7.

- play a class, subclass, or race up to 4 karma above your current level as long as it's not in the special application only list

- add up to 2 skills, without a trade, from the following list:
    - Any languages
    - Any accents
    - Pilot, ride, watch

- add 3 points to any stat(s) of your choice, divided how you like, after final rolls are made (meaning, after you've rerolled and kept it, or reverted, or not rerolled).  You cannot exceed your racial max + 2.

- trade up to 2 existing skills for an equal 'value' one.  For example, an elf cannot trade ride for something else, as that has no real value for the character.  This will be worked out with staff during your special application process.  Important note!  Skills added outside of a PC's skill tree will be capped at a fairly low level (exact numbers depend on a lot of factors such as race, and stats).

- special abilities:  certain abilities can be added if the background for it makes sense and isn't over-powered.  Some examples include, but are not limited to:
    - natural infravision
    - natural detect invisiblity
    - natural detect magick
    - natural detect ethereal

- add the ability to Custom Craft from your crafting skills when your guild and/or subguild do not normally allow it

- roll the dice!  You may trade 2 skills for a mystery "special ability" selected by staff

Flavor Additions:

- special backstory - depending on what it is, we will typically allow these as long as they are not over-powered nor allow some special ability. Examples of this include, but are not limited to:
    - bastard from a noble or GMH house - bastards specifically are capped so as not to have them too commonly

- extra coins - we can add up to 1000 coins

- special items - we can add up to 2 special items for the character, but they must be limited to a reasonable value.  If they do not already exist in the game, then the turn-around time for this could be very long (multiple weeks to months) for approval.

- unique mutation, tattoo or scar - If they do not already exist in the game, then the turn-around time for this could be a bit long (few weeks) for approval.  These should provide no coded advantage.

Based on feedback, we are limiting the "add 3 points to any stat(s) of your choice" so that you cannot go over the max of what you would normally be able to roll, which is racial max + guild/subguild bonuses.  So effectively:  race +2 is the highest you can ever roll.  This will be the highest you can raise a stat with a special application.

Meaning, if you get lucky in your rolls and already hit the max in a specific stat, you would have to apply the +3 to stats to another one.

We have added "add the ability to Custom Craft from your crafting skills when your guild and/or subguild do not normally allow it" to the list of Coded Advantages under Special Applications.
