A radical suggestion

Introduce some really nasty world plot on the level of armies.

Change the game to be unlinked zones, where each city, village, hidey hole, etc, has 8 rooms or so in each direction from its gates, before some kind of zone boundary/wall.

Put in caravan rpts that move pcs onto interstitial maps, only to locations they codedly know, only when a staff member can accompany the travel.  The GMHs and military clans become far more interesting for the maps they know and no one else does.  Nobles are given their own waypoints in the wastes from real or virtual books, making them specialists in particular knowledge.

Allow spies and infiltrators to leak travel rpts to other clans, who can schedule to join the rpt.   Allow some raider tribes soothsayers and informants that leak some travel plans, especially non military or protected by second line Byn units.

Establish new hunting, training or resource areas in the city, but make them either low tier resources only, or able to be contested by various clans, IC.

This change would "tier" starting, intermediate and mid to high level areas.
It would separate player activities onto stages of interaction, and give each a reason to conflict or back the other.
Its the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fiiiiiine.

I like this idea more for tabletop, MUX, or code-heavy MUSh or something. Not for DIKU or Armageddon. But it's a cool concept.

I do like the idea of 'event spaces' that take place outside the actual game. So we can have that rpt instead of having everything derailed by a horizontal mekillot.

One of the problems with clans has always been the logistics of getting a clan rpt with players to a cool location in the game world so they can do some dungeoneering or something. And there are a TON of cool locations for player to adventure all over. The problem is that travel for a group of mundanes is hard because you need to manage mounts resting, sandstorms, several hours of travel time and the aforementioned mekillot of space time. I bet that if staff could figure out a system where group travel was easier, we could have mundane clans going on wild adventures once or twice a month.

As a note: The Byn's bread and butter used to be "escorting people from one location to another", basically having a standing "Tuesdays at 8PM we will be going to Luirs".
This stopped because people didn't like that it left them "open to PvP" and player times started changing.

I am just saying that there is no reason you can't set an RPT date, and say "Anyone who CAN make this RPT, show up at <x> time the RL day before and we will escort you" or "Everyone quit out on <x> wagon and we will escort it to the location".

There's ways to do things without insta-teleporting PCs to the action.

Masks are the Armageddon equivalent of Ed Hardy shirts.

This format for events is possible currently through wagons, but I would like to see that expanded and made better use of:

Friday Night: We are traveling from city to an area near [dungeon run].  If you miss the trip and log in, please wish up to be transferred to base camp (we are using byn.tentcamp.3 non mobile wagon object).

Saturday (all day): We will be scouting and exploring the area around [dungeon run].

RPT (Saturday 9PM Server): [Dungeon run] event will begin. The plan is to travel back home after the event. Please quit out in the tentcamp if you if you are not able to make the ride back.

At the end of the even, staff "closes" the tent camp object, and if you log back in you can "leave" the tentcamp into [city spawn room] tavern.

Granted.  Those ways dont have to be "on camera" either.

As an off-peak player, this would single-handedly get me to stop playing the game

This is a good idea for the expansion of the logout/log in wagon code. I would think this is feasible with code. Code unsavvy speaking.
I like it.

I don't know Arm code, but logically (in my brain), they would just move the camp (wagon object without a pilot room) to the wagon yard of whatever city the RPT party came from and make it hidden so you can't see it to enter, but can leave it if you quit out inside. This also makes a nice neat place to keep all the "camp" objects for a city/village/outpost.
