Lamest Deaths?

Back when Tembo were scary...I had a 40 day maxed out warrior, get killed by a tembo in two rounds before I could do anything. This was before the Reel code too..

House Winrothol until I die.

Armageddon is best when it's actually harsh and brutal, not when we're only pretending that it is.

My very first character was a Runner in the Byn. A classic chalton boots, bone studded backpack, I-typed-sleep-and-i-can't-figure-out-how-to-wake-up Runner.

He gets invited out on a ride with two experienced Bynners. One of them says "Woah, don't go south." I decide I want to see this thing that is so scary, so I type "l s", but don't quite press the "l" hard enough.

A brief second of confusion followed by two screens of spiders piling on this newbie Runner.

Beeeeeeep.  :'(

This is why I (almost) always type "lo <direction>".
<Maso> I thought you were like...a real sweet lady.

Granper my dirty old man character got killed being escorted by the brand new Kurac fist sergeant..

Also I joined the Borsail Wyverns and our sergeant took us north and I knew the place they took us would end badly but I didn't know IC so we all died.. lol

In my early days I would explore and simply get trapped in sandstorms and run out of water. Sitting in blinding sand is thirsty work.

I've had a couple of lame and/or weird deaths of note but they were so long ago, I can't remember.

My lamest death?  Baisically I was playing really late at night on my phone in bed and I fell asleep for an hour or two. I woke up to see my character was starving and I started to freak out.

My noob brain: eat dung to stay tided over until I get to a tavern.

Damn, what a shitty way to go!

I have walked two characters into the same deadly hole just because I either miscounted rooms or turned my head to talk to someone just for a second.  One time it was a hugely pregnant character in front of her tiny tribe.  Fun times!
Former player as of 2/27/23, sending love.

I had a merchant character waiting in the desert for their stamina to go up (it was close to 0). A "red beaked vulture" entered the room, and being bored of waiting for my character to rest I decided to attack it. Turns out merchants are really, really bad at combat. Cue 30 minutes of misses by both of us and me being pecked to death as I couldn't flee.
yousuck

I had a merchant character in the Byn and like after the first in game month, there was a RPT, she got killed by the gith and died before getting back.

Ganked by two c-elf PCs I could have killed multiple times due to maxed stealth and backstab but didn't...only to have them sap/kill me one day without any RP at all. Was a disappointing death, mainly because there was zero RP involved whereas I constantly tried to give them atmospheric scenes without taking the easy route of killing them every time they wandered into the wrong area. Stopped playing for years after that and never got fully into the game again.

My lamest death:

I rolled a Stormer, bought a mount, and rode north. I met a beetle and died.

NEWBIE REPOPPED (when that was still a thing) at the southern gate of Red Storm, which I mistook for the northern gate.

You can't see a thing, sand swirls around you!

You think: It's fine I'm just walking through town, I'll walk to the apartments and rent one.

You try to climb, but slip.

Covered in Silt
You're drowning bro.

Welcome to Armageddon!
Child, child, if you come to this doomed house, what is to save you?

A voice whispers, "Read the tales upon the walls."

I was playing a templar in Allanak and drunk poisoned wine. I marched to the Vividuan temple and demanded that I be healed, wishing up to animate the Vividuan elder.

Immortal animates Vividuan elder. Is cowed by my threats and tries to heal me of poison. Immortal doesn't know the words to the spell, and I die waiting for my cure.

Desert elves on my gith.
Story behind this were the elves being PK-bloodthirsty. Singling our gith PCs out of crowds of gith with the same cloaks and height, wearing gith gear to blend in with the NPCs from a distance (despite the fact gith are hunched and scaly and elves are not), spam-fleeing when we'd enter rooms before we could fire off emotes to start the scene which we were instructed to do. Got baited into a 3v1 where 2 of the people were hidden while I was chasing one of them around the Tablelands. You feel very sick! Your vision goes black, beep.

I had almost this exact experience.

I guess the lesson I took from it was that some people are here primarily "gaming," getting to the max level and playing to win. If you don't have any interest in competing in that way, just avoid avoid avoid. In my case though, I was trying soooooooo haaaard to do just that. It simply didn't matter.

Elves aren't actually in game to RP they are in game to steal your shit, never give them the chance to do that by killing them where they stand.

My lamest death was prob on my first PC, Jihelu.

I got bored and decided to walk east of tuluk till a duskhorn or some shit killed me.

If they aren't required to RP then they should be removed from the game. Any character than can't throw out a single emote in  death scene sucks imo. Power-playing at its finest.

Next PC: C-elf with no motivation to RP death scenes. I like it. Reminds me of my hack'n' slash days.

  • Riding around the Red Desert in a sandstorm hunting gith. >backstab figure. The sandstorm was bad enough that the inixes with us were "figures" and had priority because they were the last things to enter the room
  • Mistaking something poisonous for something I had safely eaten in the past (and not having any poison cures on a 5+ days played ranger)
  • Walking around the rinth while waying someone, and crit failing the climb check in a certain non-vertical climb room and passing out in the same room as a sometimes-aggro NPC. Not sure if the NPC or a passing PC killed me.
  • Crit-failing a ride check while running away from a black beetle one room away from the Red Storm gates
  • Way back in the day, my first two PCs were literally boxed to death by the same rinthi beggar because I didn't understand reel code/when to flee. And yes, they both attacked the beggar because I was trying to grind up my combat skillz. (In this case, I was the lame element)

Not going to list any PKs because no matter how shitty it felt on my end, I don't know what was happening on the other side. I've definitely been insta-ganked on characters who made powerful enemies and totally deserved it and I consider those to be good deaths.

My Lamest might actually be my most memorable death, and came more as a result of my sticking to roleplay than the code. Such a tough choice!

Had a character named Jadara in the early-mid-2ks, made her way up through the Wyverns to Lieutenant, had this lovely little life going on, and was co-lead of the expedition to Luir's following the mantis takeover (though we didn't know what it was initially). We got to Luir's with the Byn and sniffed around a bit before this MASSIVE mantid ambush overwhelmed us. Jadara abused her love of shields to help hold off the attack while most of the party got back to the wagons. Beaten and bruise, she makes it back to the wagon before an arrow strikes her in the neck and knocks her to 1 damage!

Somehow, we got away with only a few deaths from new characters (sorry!). Jada is played up as having a broken arm from the ordeal and having her shield ruined in the fight. All wrapped up from arrow wounds, etc. And less than a few in-game days later, the new noble in the House decides to send her out to destroy a spider hole, despite her protest of being Really Badly Messed Up. Long story short, spider holes were no joke, and I took her there and refused to use her shield, via her arm being broken. She ended up getting mauled while saving the other Wyverns, and few Byn on the trip (save that first runner that got hit by ALL the spiders, sorry! XD), when I'm more than confident the shield would've been enough to get her to safely flee.

Was my first character in the area of 100 days, so I was super attached and extremely bitter about it for a long time. Looking back on it so far now, I like the idea that she had balls the size of a mekillot's.
