Valenkudos 2018 Discussion

Started by Rahnevyn, March 06, 2018, 09:52:04 PM

For context, see the Valenkudos announcement thread.

In total, 167 Player Kudos requests and 33 Staff Kudos requests were resolved this past month. That's the most since as far as back I cared to look - let's just go ahead and say you guys set the record!

It's hard to quantitatively state what impact Valenkudos had on the game, but I definitely do feel like it made an impact. For one thing, our player numbers in February were way up from February last year, and the highest since mid-2017. Positive energy really works! I know that more than one player who had been away from the game for a while made a return appearance after receiving a Valenkudos. (Of course, we had some really awesome publicity efforts in February as well; kudos to all of you who helped with that!)

Everyone likes recognition and accolades, and to reminisce once in a while. And the best part is, kudos are open year round. So please, don't horde all your love for next February. Keep sending kudos as you think of them. What goes around comes around!

You can use this thread for discussions / ideas around Valenkudos, if you have anything you'd like to share.

I'd send more kudos but between character reports and other requests, I really don't want to cause any overload, kudos for both staff and players.

If you ever hassle me IC for not playing much that means that I'm going to play even less or I'll forever write you off as a neckbeard chained to his computer. So don't be a dick.

I really enjoyed writing the kudos.  And thanks to all who did the same.  I think a reminder to send some out once in a while is a great thing.

Kudos are probably the one rare request that are 99% positive good vibes, that staff would like to "have to deal with".

I'm on the opposite side: Between playing, being at work, having stuff to do after playing, etc... the thought of writing up even a short blurb of "this person is awesome" just feels so exhausting.

Masks are the Armageddon equivalent of Ed Hardy shirts.

I personally find it's best to write the kudos right after a scene took place that was a reminder of how much I like playing with that PC -- even when, and maybe especially, it's an annoying asshole or someone that gets an emotional rise out of me (the player).

Kudos can really kick someone out of a mid-life malaise with a PC and I know getting a couple during the Valenkudos was a nice bit of whipped cream.

Personally I enjoy it, but one thing that is different here from other RL "kudo" situations is a middle man (by necessity).  I think we know people usually really really appreciate a 'good work', and it's nice to see that impact.  It's a positive reinforcement for act of complimenting that we sorta miss.  I suppose I just try and think about how I'd feel getting a kudos I write.

Valenkudos work.

I love the players of this game.
That's not a random thought either.

I never really left, but I did play more after getting one.  So maybe it worked for me, too!

I've been trying to get Seeker back since I came back.  Praise Rahne for this brilliant idea.
I'm taking an indeterminate break from Armageddon for the foreseeable future and thereby am not available for mudsex.

Valenkudos got me, too. I'd been kicking around a concept in my head for a while and was probably coming back at some point, but it was enough to push me over the line.

THANKS RAHN, RIP MY FREE TIME / SLEEP

Brought me back from a super shortlived break.
