Forage for armor|weapon

I've had this idea before, but the killer rinth gear (chairtop shields, stave clubs) really got me wishing there were a way to forage for a weapon (maybe even armor) -- a class of really crappy shoddy things.  At present, you can 'break bottle' and create a weapon out of it (which is awesome).  I'd like to see more of these.

o You couldn't sell them.
o They'd decay really really rapidly.
o They'd suck.
o You'd have to be in an appropriate place (or have an appropriate item, like the bottle).
