Unofficial Guess the upcoming changes thread

Started by John, April 01, 2016, 01:27:47 AM

As per the recent changes I thought people might enjoy guessing what the changes will actually be.

My guesses as to what will definitely be in place:
Look character will be treated as an hemote from the next release.
    House Tor will be reopened.
The price of spice is being rebalanced to encourage its use.

My guesses as to possible but hopefully unlikely:
Psionics will be phased out and the psionicist guild removed.

Why the last one? Armageddon is low fantasy apparently. Psionics could be seen as not in keeping with the game's current direction. After all, nothing says high fantasy like every single person in the world having a psionic ability (that or science fiction). It's unlikely because it's an OOC convenience but staff might think they've found a better way around it.

My guesses on what will definitely be in place is because these things actually add to the game and are sensible additions (by this I'm largely referring to spice and look hemote. Tor will always be an on again/off again clan).

People being able to be paid to carry messages from city to city is itself a pretty cool avenue of roleplay. Letters actually become relevant as clandestine communication.

Rule number one of the Zalanthan wastes: Don't fuck with the man who carries your mail

Aides actually become relevant instead of a second stun pool for the noble if that particular noble cares to posture and not let people 'contact' them.

It could actually be like Dark Sun proper, where only random people in particular are able to use psionics.

Or people who train it but psionics are scaryyyy

Psionic potential must be declared with a token. Anyone found using psionics without the token is declared and executed as a mindbender whether they actually are or not.

No Survivalists. Not only Majickers, but harmless root grebbers are on the slippery slopes now.

Child, child, if you come to this doomed house, what is to save you?

A voice whispers, "Read the tales upon the walls."

for a moment, I thought it was real.
you got me, staff.

Nah, it's always real. Saturday curfew was done away with on April 1.

I am currently using my limited coding knowledge to change the way rats work in cities. In the future, if you kill one rat, ten more will spawn and be aggro. This will continue for each rat killed. Rats in non-cities will now be gurth.

It's usually some real changes hidden in 'gotcha'!

Arm has the best april fool's for sure.
I tripped and Fale down my stairs. Drink milk and you'll grow Uaptal. I know this guy from the state of Tenneshi. This house will go up Borsail tomorrow. I gave my book to him Nenyuk it back again. I hired this guy golfing to Kadius around for a while.

Nyr told me on teamspeak that there is a rare chance for a "Rat King" to spawn if you kill enough rats. It's bite is lethal and it carries 10,000 coins on it's corpse.

Edited by Nyr: It also has a cute little rat king crown of metal.
Now you're looking for the secret. But you won't find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to be fooled.

Confirmed:

Immortals
---------
The constellation of Nyr circles about the center of the sky.

There are 1 visible Immortals currently in the world.

There are 10 players currently in the world, other than yourself.

QuoteRangers are being removed from the game, and being replaced by four subclasses:  Stalker, Rider, Herbalist and Bow Assassin.

TBH if Armageddon was to get less Dark Sun I'd say remove psionics.

I want to clarify, I think that removing the psionic guild is probably on the table. I don't like the idea of it, but I think it's on the table. (They'd probably become subguilds, amirite?)

I severely -doubt- that psionics (contact, barrier, expel) will be phased out.

--because its second most significant inspiration, Dune, didn't have psionics?  Having never experienced or read about Dark Sun, but every Dune book Herbert and his son wrote, I always assumed the Lirathan templars were patterned after the Bene Gesserit.

Weren't Dune psionics like, only available to a very few people, even more so than Dark Sun/Armageddon?

My Dune knowledge isn't great.

More widespread literacy.

More distance restrictions on The Way.

Better game.

It would help the gameworld feel bigger. Right now it feels like a small town where everyone knows everyone due to the ease of psionics.

Sadly I doubt it will ever happen, as good as I think it would be for the game... it'd mean a lot of lore and code changes.

If you made contact/barrier a wild talent Dark Sun style and made it so only humans could naturally way I think it would be prettyyyy goood
Something something human master race.

With that said. I don't know if it is the best for Armageddon it self.
I do wish contacting/waying was a lot harder than
Contact Amos

Yeah, I can't remember where it was said but somewhere recently I got a response from staff about the literacy thing.

Apparently the writing code is one of the primary culprits when it comes to crashing the game to this day, so making it more widespread might cause issues right now.

As for the big lore change, I don't think it would take a lot really.

It COULD, be I don't think it would necessarily HAVE to.

"A big laser light show was seen above Tuluk. Skrillex dropped a mad beat and a wicked Carebear Stare. Everyone in the Known world felt an extreme pain in their brains. From that day forward use of The Way was but a ghost of its self for most people throughout The Known."

So on and so forth.

"In the following years trade and commerce throughout The Known suffered. Even the nobility and templarate found themselves in tough situations with a lack of an ability to instant cell phone information across the world. The flow of communication and information had to be kept up for the global economy to function. Scribe slaves were taken on and trained in greater numbers. Trusted employees of Houses were more frequently taught to read and write to better serve their employers. Before long literacy began to leak out more frequently into the common population. Literacy became an unstoppable epidemic and so the templarate, in their wisdom, decided to declare it a gift from The Highlord to the people."

Blah blah blah.

Literacy, more restricted use of The Way.

We didn't even have to have a Goku vs Vegeta battle.

In my mind I would imagine it to still work for distances as far Allanak to Luir's or the equivalent. This puts anyone within a reasonable travel distance to you within your "Way Grasp". Thus, you can still arrange getting together with people who would be realistically close enough to you to get together to begin with.

Anything beyond that and you are looking at relaying messages via a Way contact you have closer to them, or the use of literacy/a message courier.

If the only people you have to roleplay with are farther away from you than that you aren't going to be getting together anytime soon realistically anyways.

(Of course psions would face none of these restrictions in any way.)

Something would need to be added to deal with the godawful nature of trying to get a hold of people. It would be an OOC nightmare to get rid of psionics.

Psions are enslaved, bound, castrated and have their tongues and eyes put out.  They're kept as mute transmitters of messages in the larger settlements, passing messages from one tormented mind to the one in the next city over.

Psionicist have an open role to play, now!  Win-win!
