Apartment conditions in RL

It used to be that if you wanted more space or wanted to house more people, you could just rent the apartment next to you. With additional restrictions to apartment buildings, the ability to rent multiple apartments in the same region was restrict to allow everyone a shot at an apartment.   I feel this was a good change, and am not arguing against it. If you need space to put your stuff in there are warehouses.

I am not suggesting that new larger apartments that allow 4-5 people to comfortably live in them to be built either, i think the current apartments we have are fine. All I'm requesting is that staff consider increasing the renting capacity of two room apartments in both cities by 1. In some cases I feel they could be increased by 2 people, but I would totally settle for increasing the maximum amount of people being able to live in some of those two room apartments by just 1.

I've heard of up to 8 university students all sleeping in the one room at a time for prolonged periods of time in Australia (they tended to be international students from significantly poorer countries). So I'm definitely for more people being able to rent an apartment. I assume the current limitations are due to concern of abuse. Having 8 people renting 1 apartment with 1 bed (and everyone acting as if the bed is THEIR bed and only for THEIR use) and getting away with it due to different playing times isn't realistic play.

Then again, if people are using an apartment as a "drug den" or a "sex den" where they aren't expecting to live their 24/7 but instead go their to get high or for a quickie then it would make sense for 8 people all "renting" the same apartment.

I think the amount of apartments you can rent shouldn't be capped. One per building, at most.

Yes it should.

They imposed the cap for a reason. It was not a good thing before the cap.

Also, the cap is absolutely necessary. Adding people to the lease... that was something that helped out a lot in the past, but after 3-4 people trying to share an apartment, there just isn't enough room. With your 20 baobab logs, shelves, and a bench with 200 hides... there's no more room to sleep.

Yes, I think the storage capacity of the apartment limits its effectiveness as a base of operations, but this is exactly why I think it should be possible to give more than two people a key, because there are already balances in place to prevent abuse. Just because it's not practical for the players participating doesn't mean it's unrealistic, it just means there will be less storage space to go around between these people, which will encourage the cheapskates to bail at the first opportunity so they have a place to keep their war-tregil statue and Tor action figures. I don't really see a problem with eight people sharing a one bedroom apartment, the only people it really inconveniences is the players doing it, and if it IS discovered something unrealistic is going on, which, I'm sure eventually it'd be noticed by staff, then the appropriate measures could be taken to engineer the correct IC response, like, I don't know, sand fleas or something, or maybe people's pets eating eachother, or perhaps the rotting meat in the baobab trunk draws a horde of hungry rats. It'll make a fun little RPT for those players and possibly provide some IC incintive to really look at how they interact with their environment.

Also, yeah, eight Byn Runners sharing a tiny space for their crappy things and stuff to do in private on their off-days isn't off-putting to me in the slightest. I personally do not see what the problem is.

I personally think you should be able to cram as many renters into the slummier apartments as you can, but the room's maximum storage capacity should be inversely proportional to the number of people living there and the rent should go up for every new person.  I can see the higher end apartments having qualms about those sorts of things, but slumlords the world over do not care as long as they get paid.

I was actually meaning, the amount of apartments you can rent in a city. Not the amount of capacity.

That's what we're (me?) talking about too.

Everyone knows what you meant, and many of us disagree that it'd be a good idea. Before the "number of rents" cap went in, it wasn't unheard of for an an entire City's apartment pool to be rented out by a dozen or so people.

Oh. I understand your point and it makes sense. I personally wish I could rent two apartments at least, but I was not playing in that time.

Not true in at least one location. I'd be surprised to hear it's different in the other major city.

The apartment cap was good and did make apartments available again :)

All of us must remember back to the days of people who felt the need to rent three apartments in each city just so they could store all their shit. Shit they DID NOT FUCKING USE.

Burglars love those people though. They never notice when their shit goes missing.

Ha ha ha ha ha. RGS is very right. Nobody notices shit is missing when you have 150 hides and 20 come up missing.

Unless you write shit down to keep track.

Capacity is fine.
