Nemesis System in Arm

Should the nemesis system apply for Armageddon?

Yes
No
Yes, on a certain degree.
I plan on adding some new thing to the game of Armageddon. If any of you know that new middle earth game coming out with that ranger who could change to a wraith, then you would have already heard of this nemesis system.
The way it works is like this. Basically, if you do something severe towards a certain NPC/VNPC, such as mortally wounding them, scarring them with a bad image etc., they will evolve overtime and sometimes would change their motives. Here are some examples about what I'm talking about:

An Allanaki elf is arrested by the milita and put into the arena due to him stealing something from someone. He always felt deeply for the Allanaki militia, but because they now put him into the arena, he now has a bitter hatred towards Allanak and it's milita.

You are fighting an enemy mantis squad, and you manage to kill one of their members. Due to that event, the other members in the pack hates you and your kind. Because you have a certain feature they will remember you by, such as some kind of armor or weapon you were using during that fight, anything that comes accross the pack wielding that certain armor/weapon will be immediately attacked.

You manage to burn a Tuluki dwarven warrior very severely using your magickal fire powers. That same Tuluki warrior, over a course of many years, becomes a general of His Legions who specifically deals with the magick users in and outside of Tuluk, and his main goal is to eliminate of all magick users.

I'd love it, but... it's not at all feasible.

What you need to realize is you can get all of that and more through roleplay with other real people. The game-world and code is here to facilitate a corroborative story, not create one. While it would be amazing if the games code had that sort of depth and flexibility it's basically never going to happen. You're talking about a system that you hardly even see in the newest of games coming out today.

Armageddon is 20 years old, and its code reflects that. It would be an impossibly hard task to code each and every one of these instances into the game. And if you could... it would be as cold and impersonal as a WoW starter quest.

This sort of thing already happens, via individual roleplay choices of the players.

The mobs don't change just because one person did something to one member of their clutch, however. That'd make as much sense as a dog biting a mailman and from that moment on, that entire mailman's extended family hates all dogs forever. Sure in fantasy it could happen. But it doesn't make any sense.

There's already plenty of stuff that doesn't make sense in Arm, no need to implement a new one :)

No, it can simply be roleplayed and that's the point of ArmMUD.  Hence the RP enforced status of the MUD.

Deathkamon, I'm afraid the end result on something like this is going to be what other people have already stated, but I'm curious about how you envision this being implemented. Creatures in Arm will either aggro or not, and it seems like any of them that are strong enough to eat you pretty much will (unless they're tame).  How do you envision that changing under a nemesis system?

All that being said, you as a PC are encouraged to hold IC grudges against anyone and everyone you wish!

You know I think if James simply retitled his thread "Cheese" and apologized for his first post being off-topic, all problems would be solved.

Staff will occasionally note your character's file if they notice you doing something that could have repercussions down the road. So if you act like a total dick to the owner of the Gaj one day, a staff might note that so that a future staff member could react to your PC appropriately down the line.
