Request Tool Update Indication

Started by Yummri, January 31, 2014, 08:46:21 PM

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't tell when an admin responds to a request/character report etc.

So I was thinking that this would be a good change. Maybe it changes colour on the website? Has a little symbol or a note so screen readers can pick it up to indicate an admin has looked at it or commented.

That would speed up the process of closing tickets getting responses from us players faster.

If the staff responds to a request tool request, you'd get an e-mail sent automatically. You could probably set your e-mail client up to alert you when you have something incoming.

Possibly, but I wouldn't know where to begin with that. I check my email not very often at the best of times. I check these forums and the website more than my email.

Would an e-mail client, such as Thunderbird, help you keep your e-mail open?

I use gmail, and it can do it but I'd have to change my browser and google chrome has been giving me a ton of issues lately. Still think it would be good to cover all angles.

I agree that it would be nice to have an indication of new responses to requests in the request tool itself.

I don't see what the harm would be to have some kind of symbol that lets people know there is a new comment on their request right on the tool.

I dig the idea though.

Done.

Might I also suggest that you offer an option to stay logged in to the request tool permanently, instead of the fairly shot timeout that currently exists?

You can, that said I'm not sure I'm going to do it.

On a related note, I've added an alert when you login to the webpage to tell you if you have responses to your requests (replies, not resolutions).

I am here to advocate for staying logged on. Please! Are there concerns I'm not aware of?
I'm taking an indeterminate break from Armageddon for the foreseeable future and thereby am not available for mudsex.

Security standards, if I recall correctly.

With appropriate roleplay of course.

Any kind of a 'leave me logged in' system is potentially unsecure, and takes time to develop.  I spent some time looking at it this morning, and I'm still not 100% sold on the solution.

Thank you for implementing this.

No more missing stuff because I didn't know there was a reply to my tickets. Yey!

I've got us what I hope is a secure enough implementation of leaving you logged in for up to a week.  If you click 'Remember me' when you log in, it will remember you on that machine (and only that machine) for a week.  If you log in from another browser you will not remain logged in on the first.
