Heraldry Items

Started by hatchets, July 17, 2013, 05:13:38 AM

Ok, so we all know there are certain items in the game to depict clan associate. Some I think should be more easily notable from a distance. For example, the Brown Shitcloak Aba. Even with their hood down, you'd still be able to see it on them without riding right up next to then and 'look soandso'

I would think, that those items meant to depict association to a Clan should be more readily available with the look command. Such as

look south

{Near}
the dark haired elf riding an inix.
             - wearing shitcloak Aba

Yay, nay? Of course it would only really be made for the larger, more obvious ones. You wouldn't nessicarily notice Lord Poopin Scoops Pinky Pimp Ring.
Life sucks, then you die.

Templar robes do this already... I have always thought I would have no trouble if this were the same for militia soldiers and the like.

Would love this as a part of assess -v

QuoteShe is slightly younger than you.
She appears young for her race.
She is taller than you.
She is slightly heavier than you.
The blah, blah-blah woman is in excellent condition.
The blah, blah-blah woman looks completely rested.
The blah, blah-blah woman is armed.
The blah, blah-blah woman wears the insignia of:
Trooper in the T'zai Byn.
Recruit of The Arm of the Dragon.
Family Member of House Oash

I guess some of these insignia are IC info, but we do have that player submission of common identifiers, so I'd say it's fair game for code.

Only if they are actually wearing the insignia...People like/need to be incognito sometimes. Family members of Oash would probably get in a lot of trouble for joining the Byn.

I don't always act superior... but when I do it's on the forums of a text-based game

Of course.  It's all about appearances, not your coded clans.  Steal that shit and impersonate.  Just some way to identify insignia at a (mostly non-echoing) glance.

I dig Mendel's idea.

There used to be a post with a list of what livery items would be commonly known where, but I can't seem to find it anymore...

But then that still wouldn't solve the original complaint - having to look at people and things and remembering what's what for one's self.
Like a lithium flower, about to bloom.

I thought the original idea was that if a Fale employee covered hat to boots in purple and green was out riding his inix in mid-day, with the sun beating overhead, Jihae and Lirathu in the sky - no sandstorm anywhere to be seen, but his hood was DOWN...

You would have absolutely no idea whatsoever that he was a Fale anything, if you were 1 room away. I could tell that he's the blue-eyed, freckled man from THREE rooms away - but I can't tell that he's wearing a Fale cloak?

And that just makes zero sense.

I agree that it'd be great to include a "he is wearing a purple and green striped cloak" or whatever else is taking up that wearable position, as an additional line when you look in the direction he's in.

You shouldn't have to be in the same room at all, to be able to tell what is covering a person. If I can tell that someone is "tall" from 3 rooms away, I should certainly be able to tell if he's covered in black and azure, or jade and white, or blossom embroidery, or a kenku-emblazoned cloak, or whatever else, from 1 or 2 rooms away.

And how is it decided which ones your pc knows and which they do not?

The code probably could based on starting location if staff wanted to put that much time into it, but there'd likely be no way for you to manual add in ones that your pc learns.

It's unreasonable to say that your pc is going to know every livery in the game ever at any distance.

This was one of the major concerns discussed in the thread for the livery list, too.

Besides, people already bitch about look spam and scroll length as it is - adding more lines would double or triple it.
Like a lithium flower, about to bloom.

It could simply be whatever item is worn is in the 'about body' location as it seems almost every clan has a cloak or some such, and it would clearly be large enough of an item to notice.

Aswell as for which one's your character would know, You'd have to make an RP choice in looking up and seeing purple and green and going, "Now does my northern, broke ass, dug scrapper, know purple and green is likely fale?"

It's a choice you already have to make when you look at them up close, this just lets you get a rough idea from afar, and if they don't wanna be house fale, maybe they take that common fale cloak off, and throw a commoner deep brown longcloak on.

The same could be said for NPCs, but we always know that militia NPCs are militia because it says so in their sDesc (but ostensibly, it's because if their livery).

Also, I think it might be easier just to always show the hood up type echo from more than one room away.  (A very tall figure in a blah blah cloak is here).

You know I think if James simply retitled his thread "Cheese" and apologized for his first post being off-topic, all problems would be solved.

That would make a WHOLE lot more sense than being able to tell what color their eyes are from 3 rooms away, just because the player included eye color in their sdesc.

The only problem with the idea is if they don't have a cloak/duster/aba/djellabah. Maybe there could be a default dsdesc (distance short description) - it could be dynamic and appropriate to the viewer's race so: an elf passing by, and seeing another elf..would see..
the humanoid
if that elf saw a human he'd see
the short humanoid
if that elf saw a dwarf
the extremely short humanoid
a mul
the broad humanoid
half-giant
the big and tall humanoid
breed - would depend on which end of the height and weight spectrum it is - above middle would be "the humanoid" and below middle would be "the short humanoid"
