Djellabah and Galabiyah

Hey Folks,

The other day I was looking at this item called Djellabah, and I didn't quite understand what it is, so I've search the net and found out that it is basically a Galabiyah.  Now, I know exactly what is a Galabiyah, and according to the Djellabah's description it is not even getting close to Galabiyah.  Galabiyah is a piece of garment which one wears on his head, and it falls all the way down to one's shoulders.  However, in Zalanthas, Djellabah appears to be this long coat with a large hood covering one's body.  Since Djellabah and Galabiyah are the same, it doesn't make any sense to me.

When looking up Djellabah at www.dictionary.com this was the description:

A long, loose, hooded garment with full sleeves, worn especially in Muslim countries.

It gives the following descriptions:

Djellabah - A long, loose-fitting hooded robe or gown worn by men in North Africa, and especially in Morocco.

Galabiyah - A long, full, shirt-like garment worn by men in Egypt

That page also has lots of pretty, full color pictures. Which is good for me...cause I hadn't ever heard of either of those words before in my life.  :oops:

Djellabah: Hooded cloak with long, wide sleeves, worn open at the neck and reaching to the knee or longer. Usually made of cotton or wool and trimmed heavily with ornamental braid. Desert wear.

I've found a couple photos that should help - but keep in mind, RL djellabahs aren't exactly same as Arm's, and they can be worn by both men and women.  The links below claim these two specific articles are women wear.
