Skill developement

Started by Fujikoma, May 02, 2013, 12:21:26 PM

Would it be possible to get a list of skills which can be developed at least somewhat for any guild, that don't show up in your skills screen at first? Not asking about skill branches, already know that's a no-no.

Sorry if this question is unacceptable.

Are you talking about hidden skills? If it doesn't show up in my screen, it's either a branch or a hidden skill. Can you give an example?

Well, say for example, something like direction sense. If it doesn't show up does that mean I'm forever doomed to be a bumbling fool when it gets dark or there's a sandstorm? The help file says everyone has some small ability to do this intrinsicly, some excel at it above others... Seems to indicate I can figure it out with practice, but it's confusing.

I get it. Consider skills like bonuses. And some actions can be performed by everyone, regardless of whether the skill exists. Direction sense is one of them. Not sure what is in the list and what not. But for instance:
- Not everyone might get FLEE skill, but they might flee instinctively
- Not everyone might get CLIMB, but they might succeed in some cases
- Not everyone might get a TWO-HANDED skill, but everyone can use a two handed weapon and swing it at some degree

Hmmm. In my experience you can attempt any skill to varying degrees of very low success. Just remember it's not just a skill's level which determines its success. A lot of time stats and all sorts of other things come into play.

Edit:
Makes me wonder what would happen if I tried casting spells with a mundane...

There are probably others but they fall under the "find out IC" category.  Sorry, that always sucks (at least until you find out IC and then it's pretty amazing.)

The following are a list of skills (to the extent of my knowledge) you can attempt, despite not having it as a coded skill - Although chances of success are (usually) relatively very low, but you have to remember that each skill usually has a stat-based bonus, so a massive half-giant with a high strength would be able to codedly subdue/bash plenty of creatures/people without codedly having the skills, with a decent measure of success. Skills, such as climb, are based off of the agility score - So a player with an extremely high agility but without the climb skill may sometimes climb better then a player with low agility but has the climb skill.

There are items, in-game, that will give you certain coded bonuses - So even if you don't necessarily have the skinning skill, you can still attempt to skin animals with an item designated as a skinning object, with varying degrees of success depending on the skinning item used.

Psionic Skills
- Contact (Shows)
- Barrier (Shows)
Combat Skills
- Kick
- Bash
- Disarm
- Subdue
- Guard
- Rescue
Stealth Skills
- Sneak
- Climb
Manipulation Skills
- Ride (Eventually Shows)
- Skinning (Eventually Shows)
Perception Skills
- Forage (Shows)
- Listen
- Scan
- Watch (Shows)
Craft Skills
- Cooking (Shows)
- Analyze (Shows)

When I feel players are attempting to 'guild sniff' me (attempting to identify my main/sub guild(s) via which skills I typically use), I'll maybe try a random bash/disarm every now and then to mislead them. And, sometimes it's fun trying - anyways. I've had a Ranger who has, without the skill, managed to disarm Warriors whose skill with disarm usually wasn't past journeyman.

You're missing a lot of skills. It would be easier to names the ones that don't.

Done this by accident once.

Wouldn't recommend it.

I remember recruiting this Half elf girl. And IMMEDIATELY taking her out on a contract. Right as we go into this gith hole I tell her "Remember your training, and you'll be fine." and she goes "I have no training." Then she died
