Time and Days...

Not a new player...but definitely a bit of a newb question...

Is time IG consistently aligned with RL time...I know that it's super precise but what I mean is...will the days of the week always fall at the same time each RL day? If you always log on 6pm till 8pm every day are you always going to be around on a certain day of the week, or does it shift. If it does shift (like your birthday moves a year each month!), is it calculable amount? E.g. Will 7pm my time, be Barani one day, Detal the next, Ocandra the next etc etc?

I don't always act superior... but when I do it's on the forums of a text-based game

They don't align perfectly, no. It is calculable, yes; every RL day is 16 zalanthan days, so if today it was Abid at 5 pm, it'll be barani tomorrow at 5 pm.

From help_time: 1 ZT week       = 16.5 RL hours

Think that covers your question adequately.

I swear to god if you try to usurp the helper position I will find you... :p

But yes Maso, generally speaking you will have the same day/night cycle as the day before (it will be off a teensy bit) but the actual DAYS will be different.

Not sure if time lines up perfectly, Maso, but here's a great time converter player tool. Fill in your GMT offset then the Zalanthan date and it should tell you the converted earth time fairly accurately. Great for arranging RPTs OOCly and ICly. :)

The Zalanthan hours line up pretty much perfectly with 90 minute blocks IRL, of which there are 16 in a RL day. So if you start playing at 6:30PM server time, or 8PM, or 9:30PM, every day, you can expect to log in at the hour "before dawn" on some day of the Zalanthan week.

It's actually good that the Zalanthan days shift back, otherwise people with rigid playtimes in clans with schedules would log in for the same duties every day.

Perfect! Superstars, thank you! :)

(how did I not know this?  ???)

As an additional bit of help, thread where this was discussed in-depth links to another thread that answers your specific question in-depth.  (I think you contributed in that first thread, too.)

You can search solely in "Ask the Staff" entries for "game time" to see other discussions about that.  This is the fourth thread that comes up for that search.  Not exactly the easiest thing to search for with specific words in a specific order, but it's there if you need to find other stuff like that!

I've moved this question to the General Discussion board; please save the New Player Discussion board for questions from actual new players.  :)  If you've already been here and playing for a few years, you can post questions to other players normally on the rest of the forum.

With appropriate roleplay of course.

(Additionally, if you can't find something via search, so you can always pop this sort of thing in as an ask the staff question and I will be glad to dig it up, like a slow, human-powered search engine!)

But you took away "Ask the Players" for old pla- Wait...we can ask questions in General Discussion? Huh.

Also, I have a terrible memory and limited time to be spent on searching through and read old threads (time is money etc etc), I can't even keep up with new threads - I only manage to read a quarter of new posts max! So thanks for the Ask the Staff tip, and I have no idea how you do it. It's not so bad just asking the general populace though is it?

On time:
Is this something that could be added to the helpfile? Like...how much time 'slides' each RL day? It's useful info that requires far too much brain power for me to figure out (and possibly others too, who are also less fortunate in the brain power department).

Definitely not a bad idea to ask people.  The more you ask, the more likely you get a quick answer.

You know, I was positive I'd written that up as a helpfile and I could not find it.  It's definitely a good thing to add.  I will see what I can do.
