Drop down...

Firstly...if I'm missing something IG and there is a way to do this...then scrap this!

But I kind of think you should be able to drop things from your inventory...down. I know you can subdue a person and throw them, also anything you can hold you can throw...

But I'm talking about large items that are in your inventory but too big for you to hold in your hand (immersion breaking anybody?). For example...you want to climb off the shield wall, but you are carrying a big bag of rocks that you keep on you at all times because they're really sentimental. Anyway, you're not an idiot and you figure it will be easier for you to climb down without that huge bag getting in your way...so why not drop it down first and then go after it? And if it happens to land on a gith...well then that's awesome. It makes zero sense to me that you can't do this. Either drop it down...or put it down and push it 'over the edge' ('push down?'). In fact, you should be able to push big heavy stuff around anyway, in general (with massive penalties on stamina and limitations based on strength).

Obviously this would not work going up the shield wall...but we all know this is a one way trip.

I don't always act superior... but when I do it's on the forums of a text-based game

So far as I noticed, there is gravity, if the item in question isn't being held up artificially, it will fall. Unless I am a complete boob.
Two dwarves get into a small fist-fray over who owns a pile of dung at the roadside.

I mean...before you go over the edge yourself.

Maybe a Push command
Push item west allows you to put an object in the next room without going there yourself?

There should be a command for putting items in another room.  Like, throw torch den, or something.  Throw bag east (over the Shield Wall).  That would be really cool.

Can't you throw anything you can hold? So torches would be throwable already?

Not all items are throwable, and if an item is holdable you can throw it at targets in the same room as you. (if it's not a coded weapon, this will also not activate the crim code or even use the throw skill itself)

There is no way to get an item over the edge of a climb without you getting their first. Which makes me sad. I totally wish it could be worked out, this would also let people throw torches into dark rooms.. which has been beat to death I think.
A staff member sends you:
"Normally we don't see a <redacted> walk into a room full of <redacted> and start indiscriminately killing."

You send to staff:
"Welcome to Armageddon."

If you could throw items in your inventory 1 room but have them hit nothing, much like how you can shoot a dumb dumb arrow under the current code, that would pretty much wrap this up I think.

But there's some room for abuse here as well. I could totally see someone throwing their backpack full of heavy but somewhat breakable nice shit over the cliff too to get a better climb check on the way down. And by all rights their shit should be broken when it gets to the bottom.

Oh yeah, there should totally be a chance of breakable stuff breaking...But I'd rather see it possible and get abused occasionally than not possible. It's not really the end of the world imo if someone throughs a bag of pots off the shield wall and they don't break. They're probably gonna die if they're clambering around there anyway soon enough. :p

Being able to drop or throw torches would make exploring a little more fun and a little less terrifying. Which would be good.

HRM. Only if there was a pretty high chance of it going from being thrown. Otherwise exploring certain places would be -too- easy and not scary at all. I like scary. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something awesome when I muster up the courage to go down a dark hole and don't die.

I don't think that this takes away from the terrifying-ness of dark scary places....you still have to be within one room and if there is something nasty waiting there it will most likely come get you once you light up that torch anyways. ;)

Another use for "drop down:"

You: holding one end of a rope, with the coded command (es, ep, etwo, or hold)
Your friend: At the bottom of a sink hole.

drop rope down

The sink hole room gets an immediate bump in ease of climbing. Maximum bump = 2, so you can drop two ropes, or two people can each drop one.

You get to maintain hold on those ropes, the climber doesn't codedly have them, but he can see them in the sink hole, danging from above.

Once the person has reached topside (or you've abandoned the idea), you can "remove rope" and it will return an echo saying you pull up and coil the rope, and it is now in your loose inventory.
