Having a prompt option to show what you hold

Started by Taven, June 29, 2012, 12:00:09 AM

So right now prompt has this:

%A   if you are armed or not

I'd like to purpose one of the following:

1. Make %A include if you are holding anything
-OR-
2. Make a new %I (for "item") to show if you are holding anything

Everybody's done it before, you're holding something that makes no sense to be holding, and that your character would have noticed. Maybe it's a glow crystal or torch, maybe it's a woodworking knife, maybe it's a goblet. Whatever it is, you realize that you've been walking around with no IC explanation for it for the last few IC hours, or worse, OOC hours. There's really no need for this. Having something available to put in your prompt would be a great help.
As of February 2017, I no longer play Armageddon.

I'd say make %A show if you are holding/wielding anything, weapon or not.

I'd like it to work separately. If it is a weapon, it shows "armed", whereas if it is not a weapon, it shows something like "holding". That's an important distinction, to me.

What if I'm wielding a knife and holding a sex toy?

I can see that. Barring that happening though I wouldn't mind the other showing both.

There are two ways to do it that I can see working well:

1. Armed status takes priority over holding status
-OR-
2. Information about both armed and holding status

So for the second option:

armed/holding  - That would be for example a sword and a shield
armed             - That would be dual handed wielding of a sword, for example
none              - You're not armed or holding anything
none/holding   - You're holding a mug of ale
armed/none    - You're wielding a cane

And so on.

I like the idea. I've had a character try to kill something with a frying pan. Didn't work out so well.

I'm not sure if it's necessary to have the distinction though. Maybe just a distinction for having something equipped in primary and/or secondary. Holding just makes me think, "Hey man, you holding?" But maybe that's just me.
