Fight the Lag! - with metrics

Started by Jeshin, November 17, 2011, 09:00:31 AM

It's either having to do with this time frame - as this is about the same time as yesterday - or it's when there's more than 50 people online... or at least that's all I can think of that makes sense...
Like a lithium flower, about to bloom.

Yep just came on now... nothing - nothing - nothing - running perfectly - BAM! - Lag.

Eeek...  :'(

I think it has to do with the time, it's been consistent the last three days.  It also appears to happen at a similar time in the AM.

I don't mind it so much.  I'm sitting here, drinking beer.  I wonder if NPCs lag ...

I was going to post what Creslin said almost verbatim, except my sound effect would have been BLAM.

BLAM! Lag.

Usually with code it's whatever they changed last.

Wasn't it something about npc follow script , hidden script, and gate saves. Don't know how gate saves would do it, some kinda loop in the script to make them stop following maybe? Or the hide thing maybe?

Yep, the lag monster is rearing it's head... -_-
Sometimes, severity is the price we pay for greatness

It almost feels like the server starts either running an anti-virus program or starts scheduled backups, thus taking two hours to complete.

Anyways we peaked at 60 people and then got hit with lag, kinda seems fair peak-time gets a taste of what off-peak has been going through.

Anyways, it is now officially a race to log off!  :D

Seems to be getting better.

edit:
knock on wood.

I still think the best closure you get in Armageddon is just moving on to the next character.

It got better enough for me to get to a place where i can log out. That only took an hour  :(

We went from 60 people down to 26 in that time which isn't too bad, though guessing the rest are stuck somewhere. Good luck to you!

Might be coming out on the other side of the tunnel now, not sure...

thanks for the tip dresan, i dont wanna be left holding the bag either

If it's machine lag, NPCs generally are affected by it, because their scripts are suffering from the same underlying problem (lack of processing power).

If it's network lag, probably not.

Being vague, I am just going to say that it does appear the NPCs lag too.

Lag confirmed, 2 am EST, severity level 6, not fully logged out, 30 secs to 4 mins for a command.
I have learned that one can, in fact, typo to death.

Greasy, it's just you I think. I'm in game and seem to be unaffected.

Lag went away after about an hour.

Is this the time it usually hits in the mornings everyone was previously alluding to? Or is this just me?

It came back this morning it seems although not as bad as it was this weekend's Father's day.

And there was some dwarf smoking spice, and I thought that was so scandalous because I'd only been playing in 'nak.

and it's back
Two dwarves get into a small fist-fray over who owns a pile of dung at the roadside.

You think:
     "Get your shit together"

11:20 EST, Lag level 7 - 5-10 mins for a command

I just had to disconnect in the middle of a fight. The fight took 15 minutes to get through three rounds. Kept sending variations of "Stand" and "Flee," lag so bad none of the commands went through. Just going to send a rez request after my PC dies.
