At the risk of getting cranky with all of you-
I understand that a lot of you actually just like to argue. You don't really plan to convince anyone and you won't listen well enough to be convinced and you all find it enjoyable. That's good. It'll keep you off the streets and what not.

That said, it seems like when people make a post that compares a schism between docs and the way things are played the conversations always spiral into long meandering thingies, in which some people explain that they are the only people who can rp and everyone else sucks, that the docs suck, the code sucks, the staff sucks, newbies suck, and your mom sucks.

Well, clearly it's all hopeless.

But one thing we can all do is read the docs and do our best!

I always saw it as clarifying a grey area into either black or white. I do not know if I'm talking about the same thing as you. I enjoy following threads about; proper 'naki commoner response to seeing a 'gicker, for example. I just found a very old thread that detailed such, and informed me of things I'm happy I don't have to OOC speak about, which I hate doing.


For newbies and clueless people like me, and especially folks like me who can only play a few select types of roles without getting bored and storing, thus cutting off a lot of cultural learning curves that should have been learned as a newbie (for example, soloers and racially isolated roles may not interact deeply enough with other characters to gain trust of any kind and learn the "teach" command extremely late) threads arguing about, say; well take the Allanaki Fashion thread for example. I learned a ton about fashion distinctions by reading that thread, and learned that the general consensus was to roleplay what you're wearing responsibly, and not, say, dance around Tuluk wearing obviously southern clothing on with only your tattoo showing if you can help it. Sometimes argument threads teach a lot, when the argument is resolved or has a clear majority vote the staff has not denied.

If you're talking about arguments about grey areas which stay grey--- yeah, I'm not really sure about them. Asking for docs to be added if they could impact roleplay without documentation doesn't hurt, and the most they will say do is say no. Some areas in life are simply grey without exception, and so it is in Arm.

If you're talking about threads in which people bicker and no one learns anything, then yeah, this is why tv was invented.

Cindy, if you still find yourself feeling clueless, you should definitely seek out a Helper.  They are players who are highly experienced, and can answer just about any question that you might have.  Not to mention you'll be able to sit and have a serious conversation with them without benefit of all the extraneous noise and bickering that goes on on the GDB.  You definitely don't have to stumble through your Armageddon career feeling lost.
