Steamlining the application process

Would it be possible for players to app one character while their current character is still alive?
This could make the transition between characters instant and may actually help with staff workload a little (less rush to review them and you're less likely to get a load at once right after an rpt.)

Silt horror > mantishead >"Lame!" > "Oh, actually I get to try out x character right now."

Is better than

Silt horror > mantishead >"Lame!" > "Gotta sit tight for a day"

oh and here's a free videogame.

That's actually not a half-bad idea....

But it is, in a way, abuseable.

i.e.: Character spawns, kill guards. New character instantly spawns, loots dead character's corpse.

Easy way to prevent said abuse: 1 hour cooldown, maybe longer, after a death during which you can't log in.
All the world will be your enemy. When they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.

Fair point and fair solution, although I reckon even half an hour could probably do the job.

Even if someone did manage it they'd be staff smited pretty damn quickly.

I'd agree with this, but usually I find the application approval process to be much faster than 24 hours.  Also, I wonder if the psychological effect of having a forced short break from the game between character's is benefital in and of itself.

I would say so.

Definitely.  It helps Character #2 from simply starting life as Character #1, Version 2.

I was under the impression that yes, you can.

Special applications sure, but I wasn't aware I could app my next non-special approval character before hand?

As it stands, you can probably already do this. Character apps these days usually get approved really quickly if you submit them during peak hours.

Yeah.

I've had the past few of mine get approved in under 20 minutes.

So if you have one written up, you can get it in pretty quick.
I tripped and Fale down my stairs. Drink milk and you'll grow Uaptal. I know this guy from the state of Tenneshi. This house will go up Borsail tomorrow. I gave my book to him Nenyuk it back again. I hired this guy golfing to Kadius around for a while.

My last one came back in 13 minutes.   :o

With our current staff, I find that I don't wait much longer than an hour or so for an application anyhow. Just pre-write it, submit when dead, and wait an hour.

Yeah, srsly, the new staff rock the ass at app approving.
Yes. Read the thread if you want, or skip to page 7 and be dismissive.

+1

Thank you, all you ass-rocking app staff.

I think one of my apps was approved in under 10 mins. I almost threw up with happiness.
Also, I don't think a "already have a 2nd guy baked  and ready to play on event of 1st guy death" would be abusable, or make less work for staff.
1) Killing off your first man to furnish your second with coins from looting da corpse and such is a bit cheap and twinkish, and would get you ass spanked by the mighty cane of staffdom, so  only someone wantng to get kicked out of the game would do this.
2) It would make more work for the staff, because everyone would start putting two characters in at a time, not one.
The Devil doesn't dawdle.

That's no joke, my latest character got approved faster than my Evo checked for new mail. It's a far cry from the days of old when it could take up to a week to get approved.

Anytime you force something it's generally regarded as negative. I have no interest in forcing it upon anyone, but I personally like to let the body get cold before I suit up in a brand new skin suit.

They probably heat up. Not really. I don't know.

The only problem I see with this is the storage rate going up.
It could be a week or even months before you get to play
the preaproved app that you have waiting around for you. When
the time comes you may not even be interested in playing that role,
thus resulting in a storage request. We all know these take far longer
than the standard 24 hours, especially with the speed demon app
approvers itching for one to come into the que.
