Of darkness and mounts, and tents on the sands!

Near some effing cliffs [N, E, W]
The winds here have stripped this mofo bare.
There's like, stuff trying to live here, but it's hard.
Goddamn this world is harsh and brutal, even
isn't growing and stuff. Of all the crappy places
you've passed over so far, this looks like the best
one to set up camp.
An tamed desert tarantula twitches restlessly here

>time
It's dusk, yo.

>think (anxious) Wow, I'd better get this tent set up before the sun goes down.
Feeling anxious, you think: "Wow, I'd better get this tent set up before the sun goes down.

>make tent
You set up your tent.

LOLTHESUNGOESDOWNLOSER!

>enter tent
You do not see that here.

>look
Darkness
Total darkness surrounds you, preventing you from seeing anything
at all.  You have trouble telling where to put your feet when you walk.

>think (not worried) Ah well.... I know my way back to town, I could swing it in the dark.
Feeling not worried, you think: "Ah well.... I know my way back to town, I could swing it in the dark.

>mount tarantula
You do not see that here

>think I know I've got a light here -somewhere-....
You think: "I know I've got a light here -somewhere-....

>l in pack
You do no see that here

>get torch pack
You do not see that here

>hitch tarantula
You do not see that here

>suicide
Huh?

>kill self
You do not see that here

>GODDAMMIT WHY IS THE DARKNESS CODE LIKE THIS?!?
Huh?

Anyone else suffer from this situation?

You can always grab light items from containers.

And if you didn't pack a light...well... :'(

Definitely, #1 rules for people who plan on leaving the comfort and relative safety of civilization:
Have two light sources, with one of them preferably NOT being a torch. Know their keywords and know where they are within your inventory.
As long as you know what, and where they are, you can get them in the dark.

I agree it doesn't make much sense to lose track of something you were just touching and you are presumably near to just because it became dark.

The code is pretty limited at the moment, but like Synth and Liz said, it does allow you to grab lights from your containers, provided they are on your person.

Some middle-ground between bright light and total darkness would be nice, but as I understand it, that is an Arm2 thing.

Does the object containing your light have to be in your inventory? Or can it be worn? o-O

And is it -only- lights that you can get out of your pack in the dark? Because I just tested it, I can't get other objects from my pack, worn or held, in the dark. (I don't have a light neither, so I'm still not too sure about getting one out of a bag in the dark.....)

It can be worn, or in your inventory, or even on the ground.

This only works with light objects.

To be very clear...

All light sources can be taken from containers in the dark but all other objects can not.  Objects not in your inventory can not be manipulated in the dark, and this includes items in containers no matter where those containers are.  The only exception to this last rule is light sources, which can be taken from any container regardless of the container location even in the dark.

And whatever you do, don't pack your light-carrying containers on your mount.  You can't unpack mount in the dark.
