Can't kick mounted people.

Sweet... Now if your a ranger and you are mounted you'll no longer absolutely completely slaughtered by kick... Now if only you wouldn't be at an absolute disadvantage while mounted.

Hmm... Oh yeah. Now if only kick was tweaked some not to be so incredibly powerful when someone is unskilled/doesn't have a skill.

Had an untouchable ranger when it came to fighting with weapons because he was too quick... but skills like kick/bash and other combat skills hit every time. It seems being quick and everything would come in handy against everything if it's good against weapon skills... SHRUG.

I can see creeper's logic here, really.  If you can dodge them swinging their fist, why can't you dodge them swinging their leg or, in the case of bash, their entire body?

I think the recent changes show that they are working on it.  Not by making mounted combat identical to fighting on foot, but by making it different in interesting ways.  They put in the charge skill for good riders, which basically allows you to bash without dismounting.  They make it so people on the ground can't kick people on mounts, which makes sense in most situations.

Mounted combat in Zalanthas is tricky.  Most mounts are closer to the size of an elephant than the size of a horse.  I'm not sure that melee combat involving someone on an inix (or larger) sized creatures is sensible unless the rider is a giant too.  Even with a lance it will be hard to reach anyone that isn't on _your_ inix with you.  (Saddly, you can't have more than one person on a mount, so you'll never fight someone atop an inix. Even if you are a halfling riding an inix there isn't room for another person.  Seeing a family of halflings riding an inix would he funny . . . and terrifying.)

Fighting mounted still sucks mightily if you arn't a great rider, but that makes sense.  Cavelry soldiers are excellent riders, and they ride combat-trained mounts.  If you get to the point where you can ride while carrying two weapons (or a two-handed weapon, or weapon and shield) you can consider yourself a good rider and it may be worthwhile to try to become a mounted fighter.

Acctually... it's quite possible to fight while mounted without being a great rider... It just takes being VERY good at weapons to keep yourself protected. A great ranger who's incredibly skilled well get slaughtered.

But I think drawing a secondary weapon while riding either means you have a better chance of getting thrown off or even more of a disadvantage in combat... SHRUG. Maybe a good ride skill would help there.

Someday... Hopefully it'll evolve enough to get to an even point.

Heh.  When I read that blurb in the weeklyupdate, for some reason I thought it meant that you couldn't be kicked from a clan while mounted.  It makes a lot more sense now.

I think we might need to change World Discussion to Armchair Zalanthan Anthropology.

I think balance in combat is great, the staff are definatly moving in the right direction.  But I don't know that we should be making to big a stink, I mean the arm combat system really is amazing compared to others.  But since we ARE making a stink, I'd be nice if ranged weapons, such as pole arms and two handed great swords actually had more of an advantage that just damage, though.. coding such a thing would likely be a nightmare, forget I said anything and have a drink.  Have a drink, this bit of advice brought to you by UnderSeven.  But not ghetto gin, I remeber I got that at an apm once.. It was ghetto.  Have a good drink.

Hmm why not just get rid of the warrior class all together. Lets just all be rangers. While we are at it why not give rangers backstab and climb if they don't have it, help us get rid of a few more classes.

On the serious side, I think the debate of class balance has been around since the dawn of Armageddon. I hope these latest tweaks will lead in the direction of balance, but we will only know once people start using the new skills and RP the relevant situations.
