This is just another idea.

I don't particularly like the hidden n/pc echo

"A strange shadow" does not accurately depict the pc hidden in a wide variety of situations.

Perhaps the n/pc is just moving through the crowds unobtrusively, perhaps they are snuck under a bed.

To me *a strange shadow* has a whole set of different connotations than the reality of the situation.

I would prefer that pc's who pass a scan check or the like simply see the pc as normal, allowing the n/pc to depict how they are hidden.
