Can you grab the other end?

It would be nice if there were a way for people to assist other people in picking up heavy/bulky objects.

I was thinking maybe after you type the syntax to assist them in picking it up, if the two of you together can manage the load, then the assisting person is set to automatically follow the other person until you drop the item. At which point, if the other person isn't strong enough to keep carrying it by themselves, they revert back to the old "you try but can only lift it a little off the ground" song and dance.

This is already possible IG.

At the moment:

You just killed a half-giant and there is a huge locked chest here.

get chest
The chest is too heavy, you lift it halfway off the ground.

You drag the chest behind you.

This is a desert room [NESW]
There is another halfling here.

The war-painted, nutjob-spider-monkey halfling picks up a huge locked chest.
The war-painted, nutjob-spider-monkey halfling begins following you.

This is a desert room [NESW]
The war-painted, nutjob-spider-monkey halfling has arrived from the north, carrying a huge locked chest.

You find a rusty, armed landmine and pick it up.

Oh, well sweet then!

The one thing I'd like to see added is this: even if you are able to fully get the item, it would be nice to have anyone who can 'look' in the room you are in and SEE that you are carrying something, be able to help you to carry it. Obviously, it's heavy ... you should be able to help them carry it, if it's that big.

Ohh yeah, like a chest or something that, yes your PC /could/ pick up alone, but would rather not since it puts him SILLY HEAVY.

I would like to see a "lift" command separated from "get". Solves this problem.

I love the players of this game.
That's not a random thought either.

That'd solve the problems regarding NPCs as well.

You are dragging a heavy chest south. There's an NPC there, one of the many who "auto-get" anything that's left on the ground.

The NPC auto-gets the chest, that YOU are dragging. Now you're both holding it. Except - if you move, that NPC will end up with the chest. He will -not- let it go without IMM intervention.

This also happens with UNhitched mounts. If you ever have reason or need to rest your mount that isn't hitched to you, in a room where a certain NPC is, you will not get that mount back without IMM intervention. Easy solution would be to just remember to always hitch your mount. But if you're bringing in a few - maybe your hunting buddies died and you're rescuing their mounts - you can't hitch them all. The code won't let you. Other easy solution is to not dismount near that NPC. But newbies don't know that. And not all newbies read these forums before learning that little quirk of the code.

I'd like to see NPCs stop having auto-get and auto-hitch entirely. Even though it adds a bit of fun exciting risk to the game, it also adds no end of OOC irritation and annoyance, because the NPCs can't distinguish between something you are dragging, in your possession, and something you just simply decided to drop. And since he's only "getting" and not "stealing," the soldiers won't come and make him put it down.

Yeah, this sucks. I mean, overall, I like the idea of NPC's collecting random things off the ground but it gets fucking annoying when it's something that -just- hit the ground, or a chest your dragging. I once skinned an animal that was quite hard to kill in front of the wrong NPC. He promptly picked up the spoils as soon as they hit the ground. I was wishing up a lot but it was an odd time in the morning and their were no available imms. And it's not like I can punch him in the mouth and demand my shit back. Maybe it could be coded that if certain NPC's pick something up and then you exclaim at them <tell NPC> and end the sentence with !. Then perhaps some of them could be coded to drop what they picked up and others would just sneer at you.
