Modern day?  Hardly... "Cures" for such std's as syphilis and gonorreah have been documented back as ancient Egypt, and some of the first recorded contraceptives were created by worshippers of the Night God Setukh (alligator feces mixed with eggs) in that society.

AIDS is new, and there are slews of them yet to become nearly as popular.  A recent study showed that as many as 1 in 4 college students in North America had at least one form of std, the most prevalent being clumedia(sp).

So... sti/d's have been around quite a while, they just haven't been a topic of "polite conversation" until recently...

Finally, a title that suits you! Good for you! :P

Consider this: Perhaps all the mutations have caused it to be much more difficult for females to conceive children, or carry a child to full term, and that's why there are so few pregnancies.

And while we're on the subject, perhaps someone should code in contraception.  Oh say, like prophylactics made from tandu intestine, perhaps?  If it's good enough to wrap meat in for sausage, wouldn't it be good enough to "wrap meat" in before sex?  (Provided the female in question does not have vagina dentata, har har!)

Hey.. I have never even seen ONE MUD that has sucessfully coded se, pregnency etc.. .. can I get a few examples to check out how it is solved before I make up my mind on this subject?

Kavir did it, but it was pretty lame.

FiranMUX does it quite well, from what I hear.(I don't play womanizers much)

The main problem is that people there isn't any contraception(to my knowledge) right now, and people still have sex for ten years without having a kid. If this was coded, it would just add a little more depth and challenge to the game.

I don't see it as that big of a playability problem, if some sort of herbal contraception is brought out and abortion is used. If a warrior woman sleeps around, she's going to have to take the necessary precautions. If she doesn't, she has a little problem that she can decide how to take care off. She can play a mean mother, throw the kid away, or leave it with some people or something.

So, am I stretching when I say that in order for the populations in Zalanthas to grow or even stabilize, women have to have 5-6 children in their lifetime? That wouldn't be true? My grandmother had 9 children, and people in the primitive ages would have even more.

Actually, there is at least one, and its been mentioned a few times throughout this thread, so I'm not letting the cat out of the bag.  Mul mix is a fairly common and well known herbal contraceptive, named 'mul' mix because Muls as a race are sterile and it prevents pregnancy.

<Miee> The Helper Death Commando is right.

I believe that this is a line which would begin to blur the function of Armageddon as a roleplaying game.  I ask you, would you want a rape code that would work better if someone were subdued, sleeping, or paralyzed?  Many would feel justifiably disgusted by it.  I don't think that a code such as this has any purpose in the game at this point in time, and the responses of others have made this clear.  Players will roleplay the way they want.  If coding sex is allowed, why wouldn't molestation or sexual assault be added as well?  The path is wary and very disturbing at that point.  If we aren't ready to handle such realism, than surely we can keep up usage of dice and webpages.
Vendyra

1/3 of you people want this code? Yikes.

I just feel like this code is really beside the point of Armageddon. We're playing survival, politics, adventure, or something along those lines in this dangerous scary world. If we're adding code, I'd rather see new code that enhances those aspects of it. I've never minded people having relationships and such, it really can add something, but I never considered it enough of a focus to justify something like this. Maybe I'm just naive, and a lot more of this goes on than I think.

Seriously though-- if I was new to a mud and I found out there was a sex command, I'd turn tail and run for the hills. Or maybe we'd recruit more people this way... but imho probably fewer people we'd really like to see around.

I hope thats not offensive to anyone.
 great evil walks Zalanthas...
Master Z has arrived from the west!

Yeah, but imagine how much fun powergaming would be!!

And if you think the discussion over training backstab on training dummies has been overdone - just wait until someone wants to know if they can practice *this* on the dummy.

Trust, I think, is the most fundamental tool which allows us to play this game. Without trust, we may as well just be playing a Hack and Slash, and repopping in Midgaard after slaying a bunch of Smurfs.

You people need to get out more.

Yeah, though I don't see a burning need for this type of code, I wonder what people would think of a "sex" command for interacting with NPC prostitutes?  What would be even cooler would be an "escort" command:

The rough, scrabbled-bearded man enters the tavern with the skinny, half-elf prostitute hanging on his arm.

Oh, btw, if men and women are really equal in Zalanthas, why do I seem to see more female prostitutes than male prostitutes in the game?

You just don't frequent the right clubs...

Many of them are 'catamites' for hire.
